"Maybe if you weren't so busy trying to prove something to everyone, you'd see what's right in front of you," Megan said, her voice dripping with disdain.

"This isn't about proving anything, it's about survival. It's about maintaining what your father and I built. We worked our way into Obsidian Tech, and now, I am Senior Manager, and you are Senior Director. You literally just got promoted, and you are messing up what your father and I built."

That struck a nerve. Lena’s eyes flashed, and a low, dangerous growl rumbled in her throat. “Oh, so now you're bringing Dad into this?” she spat, her voice laced with venom. “Is this what you always do, Mom? Twist everything to make it about him, about how you were some martyr and he was just a broken man?”

Her mother’s eyes widened, the shock evident on her face. “Lena, what are you saying?”

"I'm saying the truth," Lena continued, unable to stop herself now. The words spilled out, raw and unfiltered. “You always pushed him! Pushed him to

“Hello, Mr. White, Mr. Granger?” A lady walked into the VIP reception area as soon as the elevator opened. Mr. White, Mrs. Blackson, and Mr. Granger all smiled, shaking her hand firmly. Lena also extended her hands towards the lady, but the lady turned a blind eye. It was like Lena did not even exist. This made Lena feel very embarrassed, but even more so -angry. The lady looked like she fell out of heaven. She was a perfect build. The strands of her hair were like the lines of a magnetic field, attracting both men and women to its beauty. Her face, oh so pretty and her dressing was elegant. This even angered Lena more. She felt like a single flea in the room, an insignificant piece of shit. And even more painful was the fact that the lady was a receptionist, their escort. Did she have some sort of personal issues with her? “You sure got the names right.” Mr. Granger smiled honestly, but not too widely so as not to appear as desperate as he actually was. “Oh right. We don’t eas

  • Chapter 13: Echelon Eight

Echelon Eight. The only building in the world closer to the heavens. Literally. Obsidian convoy pulled over as the security men scanned and checked for any weapons or infiltrations. The convoy consisted of 2 Lexus LX 600 cars. One at the front, the other at the back of the main ride. The main ride, a Rolls-Royce Phantom EWB, sat in the middle, screaming elegance and wealth. In there sat four of Obsidian’s Executives. The Chief Executive Officer, Mr. White, a well-respected man in the business industry, Mrs. Blackson, the Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Granger, the Shareholder Echelon Eight. Just the name felt like a physical weight, a heavy cloak settling on Lena’s shoulders. It wasn’t just a company; it was an empire. A silent, looming presence that controlled the intricate puppet strings of the city’s business affairs in the country. They weren't just players in the game; they were the game. Other firms? They were mere pawns compared to the monolithic might of Echelon Eight.

  • Chapter 11: Weight Of The Crown

Lena quickly packed her stuff and began to wear her makeup. Her heart was beating violently. She was confused, scared, scared and scared. Why was Echelon Eight after their lives? After her life? Why did they seem to have interference in every single string she pulled? Was this actually really personal? Ever since she and Rowan separated, it seemed like her life had been spiralling down. Nothing seemed to work anymore. “Hey, hey, calm down, Lena. Calm down.” Dominic tried to comfort her, grabbing her wrists. “Let me go, Dominic. Listen, I know you care and you want the best for me. But I also know you are doing all of this because, as you requested ‘Marry me’. Come on, Dominic, I just ended my last marriage, and I am here trying to deal with the biggest dogs in the industry. This is so not the right time to develop feelings. Okay?” Lena argued and continued to smear the red Cle de Peau Beaute on her lips. Dominic sighed and let her be. “This is not about me, Lena. It is about yo

The sudden burst of activity in Lena's office had its own rhythm. Emails flooded in, calls stacked one after another, and for the first time in days, the air felt breathable and the Air Conditioning seemed to cool her off. She leaned back in her chair, watching the phone screen buzz with the kind of energy she hadn't seen in weeks—green lights, responses, follow-ups. Movement. Dominic strolled in with that devil-may-care smile of his, a portfolio tucked under his arm. He set it down gently in front of her. "Asset recovery from the Morgenthal proposal. They agreed to revisit the terms," he said. “And the tech sector wing of Dorne Ventures just confirmed their pitch appointment. You’re on fire, Lena.” She didn’t smile. Just nodded, thumbing through the paperwork. “This doesn’t mean we’ve won,” she said. Dominic chuckled. “No, but it means we’re not bleeding anymore.” A soft knock came at the door. Her assistant peeked in, holding a sealed envelope and a coffee. “From Mr. Granger

  • Chapter 9: The Weight Of Silence

The elevator doors slid open with a dull chime, and Lena stepped out, her heels clicking against the polished floor of Obsidian Tech’s headquarters. The morning light filtering through the tall windows did nothing to soften the pounding in her head. She adjusted her coat, forcing her spine to straighten, smoothing away any trace of the mess she felt inside. There was no room for weakness here. Not today. Especially not now. The office buzzed with the usual Monday morning rhythm — phones ringing, keyboards clattering, voices weaving together in muted conversations — but to Lena, it all sounded like static. Background noise. Her world was unraveling too fast for her to care about anyone else’s deadlines. She walked into her corner office, shut the glass door behind her, and slumped into the chair. The city skyline stared back at her, indifferent. She reached for her phone and began dialing — no time for pride, no room for fear. She was not ready to be a failure. The praises from her
