Lyra tried to stand.
Her knees trembled before they obeyed her, boots scraping against cracked stone as she forced herself upright. Her sword felt heavier than it should have, her breath uneven, every muscle in her body screaming from Pelson’s pressure. Across the courtyard, the Tyrant roared again. The sound tore through the academy like a physical force. Lyra’s vision blurred for a second. “Kael…” she muttered. Where is he? A pulse of light answered from behind her. Lyra turned just in time to see it. Golden light erupted across the courtyard. The wind moved violently, bending inward as if the realm itself had noticed something waking up. Kael stood but he was not the same. His body was wrapped in that burning gold again, but this time it didn’t flicker or struggle, it flowed. Dark veins of energy traced beneath it like something ancient had opened its eyes inside him. His gaze lifted slowly and the entire battlefield came to a stop. Even the Tyrant stopped, eyes narrowed on his initial target. Lyra’s breath caught. “He’s awake…” Kael didn’t speak. He glanced at her once and then away like he knew exactly who to attack. His gaze shifted to Pelson as he floated in the air, wind arriving around him like a shield. Ronan watched in silence, eyes staring up at him in awe. He's never seen anything like it but hell was it enough to make him stand for a very brief moment. Silas raised his hands. “He’s….what is that thing?!" Darius swallowed. “He’s not human…” Pelson's eyes narrowed in anger, “Kill him.” Magic erupted from every angle. Fire, lightning, ice, all launched at Kael. Kael didn’t dodge, he simply raised his hand and all the runes stopped mid-air. He flicked his fingers and everything vanished into dust. Silence hit the courtyard for half a heartbeat . Lyra barely saw it. A blur of gold and shadow and bodies were thrown back as Kael crossed the courtyard in an instant. Ronan barely blocked the first strike, his wind barrier shattering immediately, forcing him to skid backward. “Hold him!” Pelson barked. Kael's eyes finally locked with the Tyrant in the chaos. The Tyrant's glowing eyes narrowed on Kael as it snarled in rage. The Tyrant didn’t attack the mages, it ignored them completely and charged Kael. The ground exploded beneath its steps.bKael turned just in time. The impact hit like a meteor. Gold met red flames, coating the courtyard in ice shards The shockwave flattened the nearest structures, sending mages flying in every direction. Lyra raised her arm just to stay standing. Kael and the Tyrant collided again. The courtyard became a battlefield of pure force, golden energy against primal rage. Every strike shattered the stone structures. Lyra’s eyes widened. Kael and this monster are… equal. No. It was even worse. The Tyrant was adapting: it was learning Kael's moves. Pelson saw his chance. “This is because of you,” he said coldly, eyes locking on Kael through the chaos. “You brought this into Astra.” His staff ignited, a massive surge of power built in his hands. “Die.” He fired. The attack shot through the battlefield but Kael turned. At the same moment, the Tyrant swung, neither aimed at Pelson but the strike hit him. A collision of Kael’s redirected force and the Tyrant’s blow. Pelson didn’t even have time to scream. His body was thrown backward like it was made of glass. The impact shattered the ground beneath him and his body went limp. Ronan froze, his breath caught. “…Father?” The Tyrant roared again, but Kael didn’t look at it. He stared at Pelson’s still body and he looked away. “FATHER!!” Ronan snapped. “No…” His voice dropped low as he hurried toward his father. Pelson was still, his eyes closed and his body cold. “No… no… NO!” Ronan turned and charged at Kael. “YOU DID THIS!” His magic exploded outward. Silas shouted his name, but Ronan didn’t hear him. His strike hits Kael right in the chest, causing a cut across his chest. The Tyrant struck again and Kael met it head-on. For the first time, the golden light cracked and Kael slid backward. The Tyrant roared louder, saliva hanging off its long set of teeth. Lyra gasped, the Tyrant was here for Kael. Ronan’s attack came from behind but Kael turned too late. The ice runes hit him and Kael staggered. Ronan raised his hand again but Kael turned slowly and looked at him. Ronan froze as his eyes narrowed on the injury on Kael’s chest as it closed. Kael swung his hand and the wind blew Ronan backward violently, crashing into broken stone. Roanan groaned and stood on his feet mere seconds later, his gaze dark with something Lyra had never seen before. Meanwhile, the Tyrant attacked again and Kael met it mid-air. The collision shook the entire courtyard and this time, neither won. They both broke the ground beneath them and they both staggered backwards. Pelson’s body lay still nearby and Ronan’s eyes caught his body in the corner again. His jaw clenched and his hands trembled. “…you killed him.” His voice cracked. “You killed him!” He turned back to Kael, eyes burning with grief and rage. “I’ll end you.” Kael couldn't answer, the Tyrant roared again and lunged. Kael and the creature collided once more. The explosion of force sent everyone back; Lyra was thrown to her knees and that was when she realized Kael was losing control again. “Kael!” she shouted. He didn’t hear her, not anymore. The gold was spreading too fast and the black was overpowering the gold wind around him. The Tyrant was pushing him and Ronan was about to attack Kael again. Lyra wiped blood from her lip and made a run towards Kael. She reached him at the exact moment Ronan’s next attack launched. She grabbed Kael from behind, hands on his shoulders as she shook him violently. “Enough!” A burst of wind erupted and a smoke veil exploded across the courtyard clouding everyone's vision. When it cleared, Lyra and Kael were gone. Ronan… stood trembling in the ruins of his father’s last battlefield. “…KAEL!!!” He screamed, his hands clenched.Latest Chapter
Chapter 40:
Kael tightened his grip around the Meadow Iron sword, turning slowly where he stood. Every shadow between the ancient trunks seemed alive and every branch overhead could have hidden another pair of watchful eyes.He could feel them watching them in pure silence. His breathing slowed as he searched the forest, but no matter where he looked, he found nothing except towering trees whose branches swallowed the afternoon sky."...Where are they?" he whispered."You've been looking at them since you stepped into the forest."Kael spun toward the voice but he saw nothing. Only another stretch of trees.Lyra remained perfectly still beside him, her empty hands raised slightly away from her body. Liam did the same, looking far calmer than Kael thought any sane person should."Show yourselves," Liam called. The words had barely left his mouth when figures began dropping from the branches. Not a single leaf stirred beneath their feet.Kael watched in stunned silence as elves emerged from plac
Chapter 39: Wrong Territory
The cottage fell silent and only the crackling of broken wood and the distant laughter from the village square could be heard.Kael stood frozen, the Meadow Iron sword gripped tightly in both hands.More masked figures emerged outside. One stepped onto the roof, another appeared atop the well across the road. Two more stood on opposite rooftops, watching without moving.Others simply walked into the narrow street until every path leading away from the cottage had been sealed.Kael swallowed. If he so happens to die, this might just be the day he does. "There are too many..."Liam never took his eyes off the leader."There always were."The leader rested his sword against one shoulder."You've become slower, Master Liam." The leader said. “There never used to be none witty in your prime.” "I've become old.""You say that as though it excuses you."Liam smiled faintly. "It does."The assassin inclined his head politely."Perhaps."He shifted his attention to Kael."Come with us."Kael
Chapter 38: The First Cut
Kael dropped flat just as Liam shouted. The black blade sliced through the space where his head had been a heartbeat earlier before crashing into the wall behind him. Stone burst apart, sending dust and splinters across the cottage. Kael rolled across the floor and sprang back to his feet. His heart hammered fast against his ribs as he reached for his head, touching it frantically. By the light! This man would have secured his head without a second thought! He could have died, gone and forgotten by the world. The thought made Kael gasp for breath. These men were different from Lafey. Lafey was huge thus making him sort of predictable but these men moved with the wind! If he did as much as blink, his head could have left his shoulders. Before Kael could regain his footing, another figure blurred across the room. Lyra met him halfway in a blink of an eye. A sharp ring echoed through the cottage as a dagger collided with twin blades. Sparks scattered between t
Chapter 37: The Hunted.
The celebration carried on behind them.Laughter rolled across the square. Someone struck a drum. Children ran between the houses with flowers woven into their hair, completely unaware that death had already entered Meadow.Liam hoped the people would be able to distract the men for a bit. Kael tightened his grip around the wrapped sword Liam had placed in his hands. It still felt unreal.A few moments ago, the people had been thanking him, but now he was running again.Liam didn't waste another second."This way."The old man turned sharply into a narrow alley between two cottages without looking back.Lyra followed immediately. Kael hurried after them, keeping his hood low.As soon as they disappeared from the square, the sounds of celebration became distant, only their hurried footsteps remained.Kael glanced over his shoulder once. The three travellers were still standing near the northern entrance. They hadn't moved."Are they following us?" he whispered."They don't need to," L
Chapter 36: Cassian's Deadly Weapon
For the first time in years, no Astra banners flew above Meadow square. The wooden poles where they had once hung stood empty, blackened by the fires from the night before. Burnt wagons still smoked near the lower district and several buildings had collapsed into heaps of charred timber, yet no one complained.Children laughed as they chased one another between the ruins.Families who had thought they would never see each other again embraced in the middle of the streets. Mothers held their sons so tightly the boys struggled to breathe, while fathers wiped tears from their faces before anyone noticed.Kael sat beneath an old oak tree with a wooden cup in his hands, watching everything unfold. He had never seen Meadow like this. The people who usually kept their heads lowered now walked with their backs straight. The fear that had lived in their eyes had not disappeared completely, but something stronger had taken its place.Hope.A small smile found its way onto Kael's face.Perhaps
Chapter 35: The Hunt
The laughter around the tea house faded as the members of the Five Pillars departed one after another. The servants quietly cleared away untouched cups of tea and half-finished meals while musicians in the corner resumed their soft melodies as though nothing important had happened. It was getting a bit late into the day and Eldric found himself still seated back at the pavilion with his tea. He kept his eyes fixed on the empty teacup before him, exhaling a couple times as though he had just dodged death. Vaelorin had left, Seraphine had disappeared with her boy toy which she swore was no more than a servant of hers which Eldric knew was a horrible lie. Malthor had wandered off with two attendants hanging on his arms and Cassian had walked away without another word.Good. Very good. They had not mentioned Meadow.Perhaps the letter from his handler had not reached them after all. Perhaps the survivors had exaggerated. Perhaps…."You seem relieved."Eldric nearly threw his cup into
