The steady beeping of the monitor was the only sound in the room. Her mother glanced at her daughter, then turned towards Mr Ravenwood, who stood by the window, staring down at the traffic below.“How long is she going to stay like this?”“The doctors said we have to wait,” he replied without turning.“And Marcus?” Her voice tightened. “Are you still letting that bastard marry our daughter?”Mr Ravenwood rubbed his forehead. “I’ve already told you I’ll deal with him.”“Deal with him? He nearly destroyed our daughter’s life!”“Keep your voice down.”“How can I keep my voice down when—”“Excuse me,” a nurse interrupted as she walked in. “This is a hospital. Arthur and Gregory Whitmore were still discussing the invitation from the Transition Committee.Mr Whitmore had examined the document and asked a couple of questions about the proposed payment infrastructure programme. Arthur answered as best he could, making it clear that the discussions were still at an early stage and no contract had been secured.Still, the opportunity had given Mr Whitmore something else to think about."If that programme goes ahead, there could be a real opportunity for businesses such as ours," Mr Whitmore said."That's what we believe, sir. Of course, the final arrangements will determine how much our partners can benefit."Mr Whitmore nodded thoughtfully."I'll have to go through it all very carefully, but I must say, I'm now looking at your proposal in a very positive light."Arthur smiled. "Good to hear that.""I'll have my decision sent to you by the end of today.""Thank you, Mr Whitmore. I appreciate your consideration."They were just about to conclude

Arthur got out as soon as it stopped, with Joshua following close behind, carrying a folder containing Mr Whitmore's report and the other documents. They hurried towards the entrance. "What's the situation?" Arthur asked as they walked down the corridor. "Miss Victoria Hale has already presented her proposal, sir. She's the Chief Commercial Officer at Sterling Financial. From what I've gathered, their offer is considerably better than our current agreement with Mr Whitmore." "How much better?" "They're offering lower transaction processing fees, settlements within twenty-four hours and a dedicated technical support team. They're also prepared to cover part of the cost of transferring Mr Whitmore's operations to their platform." Arthur glanced at him. "That's very generous." "There's more. They've promised to provide additional support throughout the transition to ensure Mr Whitmore's operations aren't disrupted in any way.

He had heard more than enough threats for one day.Nicolas finally turned and walked out, followed by the former employees and board members who had accompanied him. After they had left, the room became much quieter. Arthur loosened his tie and leaned back, taking a moment to recover. The meeting had revealed more difficulties than he could afford to ignore, and Nicolas's last warning was by no means the most important of them."Joshua."The door opened at once. "Yes, You

Those board members who had been openly criticising him a moment earlier now appeared hesitant to speak. Some lowered their heads while others exchanged doubtful looks.Nicolas finally cleared his throat."Even though the election results are certainly good news, I don't believe they have any effect on the purpose of this meeting."He turned towards the other board members."We are here to discuss the company's present situation and the concerns surrounding its management.
