After she dialled Maya's number for the second time, the call finally connected. Lucas paid absolutely no attention to the shocked expressions on Maya's parents' faces. Instead, after stepping through the doorway, he calmly walked straight past them as though they were not even standing there. Maya's mother clutched her chest nervously.Maya's father frowned as he moved closer to the entrance.The barking continued relentlessly.Maya's mother hesitated."Please be careful," she said. Lucas stepped out of the restaurant after finishing his dinner and paused briefly on the sidewalk. He loosened the collar of his shirt slightly and glanced down the road before raising a hand to stop a passing taxi. The vehicle pulled over immediately. The driver rolled down the window and smiled politely. “Good evening, sir. Where are you headed?” Lucas opened the rear door and got inside. “Take me home,” he replied as he gave the driver the address of his mansion. “Alright, sir.” The driver started the engine and merged back into traffic. For several minutes, neither of them spoke. Lucas leaned against the seat and stared out of the window while the city moved past him. However, as they continued driving, a thought suddenly entered his mind. His expression slowly changed. He sat upright. “Wait,” he suddenly said.
