“Take it easy, that's painful,” Barnes groaned as his wife tended to his busted jaws.

His wife hissed as she removed the ice bag from his jaw. “How could you let your tenant hit you that hard? And Barry for that matter.”

“I didn't expect such a reaction from the kid,” Barnes barked, feeling humiliated at being punched by his tenant.

“I can't believe you'll let that bastard get away with it,” his wife ranted. “You're a disgrace if you allow Barry to walk freely around without fixing him.”

Barnes knew his wife would talk about this for weeks. She would definitely gossip to her friends and her friends would in turn tell their husbands.

Soon, word would circulate and Barnes would end up becoming a laughingstock.

His other tenants won't respect nor fear him.

If Barry, a nobody could punch him and get away with it, the other tenants could feel the need to do the same when Barnes demands for his rent money.

No, he can't allow that. No matter what, he must find Barry and make an example

Barry’s fists were clenched, his jaw tight as he marched forward beside the trembling servant. At the end of the hall, the servant stopped in front of a polished mahogany door, its handle gleaming under the dim lights. “There,” the servant pointed nervously, then stepped back. “That’s the room. He’s in there.” Barry didn’t wait. He shoved the servant aside, stepping up to the door. He pressed his ear against it.Silence. Not a breath, not a sound. Just the pounding of his own pulse in his ears. Alarm shot through him. He stepped back, took a deep breath, then charged forward like a bull. With all the strength he could muster, he rammed his shoulder into the door. Wood splintered. The lock cracked. The door swung wide open with a crash. Barry burst into the room—and froze. There, sprawled across the king-sized bed, was Harold, shirtless and red-faced, lying ov

After the meeting ended and the boardroom slowly emptied out, Barry quietly excused himself and took a different route around the hallway. But as he turned a corner near the back lounge of the estate’s corporate building, he heard hushed voices. Voices he recognized. He carefully pressed himself to the wall near a half-closed door, just out of sight, and listened. Lydia was breathing fire and brimstones. "How the hell did she pull this off? $10 million. Just like that? She doesn’t have the connections, the clout—" "She must've sold her soul," Serena said, cutting in sharply. "That woman has done one shady dealings with the devil. It's the only way."Elliot chimed in. "She didn't sell her soul. I flipped through the documents when father wasn't looking. • The emergency meeting

Barry had rushed back to the apartment ahead of Eleanor, his mind racing the entire drive. He needed time to process what he'd just witnessed—Harold's sudden generosity and the lack of conditions. It seems so easy. That didn't sit right with him. Barry made it back home just in time, parking his Honda Civic in its usual spot beside the garden before slipping into the boys’ quarters. He changed quickly into his sleepwear, dimmed the lights, and sat on the edge of his bed, waiting. An hour later, he heard the soft purr of the Bentley Continental pulling into the driveway. He peeked through the blinds as Eleanor stepped out of the car.She stood for a moment under the porch light, then turned and walked toward his building. A soft knock rapped against his door, followed by her hushed voice. "Barry? Are you awake?" He took a breath, ruffled his hair for effect, and opened the door, rubbing his eyes as if he had just woken up. "Eleanor? Everything alright?" She practically vibrat

  • Harold

Harold shrugged, picking up his glass again. "Well, good for you. I just got back from overseas a month ago myself. My father officially handed over the family business to me. He's finally retiring." The waiter arrived just then, placing two plates of delicately arranged food before them. Eleanor gave a polite clap. "Congratulations, Harold. You really deserve it." Harold's expression softened. "Eleanor, I never had the chance to explain myself to you back then. After you broke up with me... it left a hole. What happened between us back then—it left a hole in me that took years to even begin to fill. I was young, stupid, and worse, arrogant. Cheating on you with your best friend was the biggest mistake I ever made." She held up a hand, cutting him off. "Harold, please. It's all in the past. I believe we've all grown passed it." "But I need you to know how sorry I am," he insisted, leaning forward. "I owe you that much.""Harold, please," She sighed. "We were both young and f

  • Eleanor's deceased husband.

The next morning, Barry drove Eleanor to to a quiet facility tucked away near the edge of the city where her husband's body would be cremated. The air was heavy with the scent of rain and damp earth as he pulled up to the curb. Without a word, Eleanor stepped out, her black dress blending into the gloom of the overcast sky. Barry remained in the car, watching through the windshield as she walked through the double glass doors and disappeared inside. Hours passed. The rain came and went, pattering softly against the windshield before fading into a mist. Barry waited, patient, watching the occasional figure move past the building's doors. He didn’t touch his phone or the radio. He just waited. Finally, Eleanor emerged, accompanied by a priest who spoke to her in low, comforting tones. She exchanged a few quiet words with him, bowed slightly, then turned and came back to the car. She opened the rear door and slid in gently, her eyes distant. "Take me home," she said quietly. "I
