Chapter 1: Divorce

In the top floor office of AG company, a woman dressed in office attire didn't even bother to knock as she entered.

Inside, there was only one man, who stood rather than sat.

He was tall, with striking blonde hair and deep blue eyes akin to the vast, serene ocean.

Just standing there, he exuded a certain aura, making it hard to imagine him as anything less than a capable individual.

Despite the arrival of the woman, he showed no surprise. He simply looked at her and asked in a calm voice, "What brings you here?"

Indeed, Ethan was summoned here, to his wife Alice's company.

And standing before him was none other than Alice's secretary.

She seemed perpetually dissatisfied with him, and now, her gaze was filled with disdain.

She gave a cold laugh before advancing, placing a document on the table, almost mockingly saying, "Here's the divorce agreement. Sign it."

At this, Ethan couldn't help but widen his eyes in clear surprise. The secretary, seeing his reaction, only smirked more.

Her gaze mixed with contempt, she directly stated, "You're not worthy of the chairmanship. It's best you know your place and leave."

Ethan seemed to pay no heed to the secretary's demeanor; he had been accustomed to it from the start.

He lowered his eyes to the divorce papers on the table, his expression inscrutable.

At this moment, the past replayed in his mind like a film.

He and Alice had met when they were both nothing.

Alice wanted to build a career, and Ethan supported her without hesitation.

However, later on, her company faced setbacks, and Ethan helped her without hesitation, albeit clandestinely.

For some reason, he had to do this in secret. Even now, Alice didn't know why her company had grown so successful.

After the company stabilized, the two got married.

Alice said she loved Ethan's gentleness and unconditional support.

But now, as her company reached its pinnacle, she wanted to discard him like a castaway.

"Do you really think you deserve to be our chairman? You have no capability, no wealth. There are plenty who would treat our chairman kindly. But someone as useless as you deserves to be tossed aside!"

The sharp tone of the secretary's voice jolted Ethan's thoughts.

He looked at the secretary, his lips slightly pursed, struggling to contain his emotions, then spoke in a low voice, "I want to see Alice."

Hearing this, the secretary frowned, anger sparking in her eyes.

Who was Ethan to command her? Without hesitation, she rebuked, "You better not try harder. What do you think you have? Mr. Boster Smith, the heir of the Smith conglomerate, is pursuing the chairmanship. Compared to him, what are you? Do you think you stand a chance?"

The Smith conglomerate was one of the largest in Gloria City.

Compared to an Ethan with nothing to his name, the scion of the Smith conglomerate was truly formidable.

Just then, the door suddenly opened, and another woman walked in.

She had a perfect figure, a beautiful face like a rose.

Her chestnut hair cascaded in waves, dressed in a power suit, she exuded the aura of a strong, authoritative woman just by standing there.

Ethan looked at the newcomer and spoke in a low voice, "So, you finally decided to show up? I thought you'd let your secretary handle the divorce proceedings for you."

Alice frowned slightly upon hearing Ethan's words.

She walked up to Ethan and took out a bank card from her purse.

Almost absentmindedly, she said, "There's three million dollars in here, consider it divorce settlement. How do you feel about that?"

Ethan was almost instantly shocked as he looked at Alice, as if seeing her for the first time again. No, perhaps now he truly understood her.

Clearly, she was measuring their relationship with money.

He furrowed his brows, his voice lowering, "Do you think I've been by your side from the beginning to the end just for money?"

Alice frowned slightly, not saying a word.

Ethan continued, "I don't need this money."

Upon hearing this, Alice smirked, disbelieving.

She just felt that perhaps Ethan thought three million dollars was too little.

Ethan could tell what Alice was thinking just by looking at her face.

Ultimately, they had been intimate partners.

He spoke in a low voice, "Is money really all that's in your eyes? Do you think you can measure our relationship with money? You value it too much. What I've always cared about is neither money nor power!"

Alice sneered upon hearing this. "Without money, what can you do in Gloria City? You find life too easy here. The reason you don't value money or power is simply because you've never had them in your hands. If you did, you probably wouldn't think like you do now. You never want to progress, Ethan. We're not compatible. It's best we divorce."

Ethan was truly angry, almost laughing out loud.

Clearly, he had abandoned everything to be with an Alice who had nothing.

But now, with a little power, Alice was ready to abandon him.

Despite everything, Ethan still had some feelings for Alice.

He couldn't help but say, "Do you really want to overlook everything we've been through together? What happened to you, in the end?"

Alice pursed her lips, her mind seeming to stir up.

However, in the end, she shook her head firmly, her gaze becoming determined.

"Let's divorce. You know, Boster is pursuing me. He's much better than you."

Ethan looked at Alice, disappointment evident in his eyes.

In the end, he said nothing more, just smoothly signing the divorce papers.

He looked at Alice and said in a low voice, "I won't take the money. Just give me back the gem I gave you as an engagement gift."

Alice almost seemed prepared for everything.

She knew Ethan valued this, so she brought it along.

Without hesitation, she handed it to Ethan and then spoke in a low voice, "We owe each other nothing anymore. I hope you'll progress in the future. Without power, your life is just misery."

Ethan said nothing and just walked past Alice before leaving.

Alice paused for a moment, watching Ethan's retreating figure.

Her lips slightly pursed, her eyes downcast. At first glance, she seemed indifferent, but there was a hint of sadness.

Her heart was in turmoil. Was giving up on Ethan really the right thing to do now?
