WRONG SIDE OF THE LAW

CHAPTER NINE

WRONG SIDE OF THE LAW

As they haggled over the terms of their deal, the wailing of sirens grew louder and louder, making Jace’s palms sweat. Frank’s face split into a wide grin, and Jace knew that something was about to go down.

“What’s with all the noise outside?” Jace asked, trying to keep his voice steady.

Frank chuckled. “Oh, just a little surprise I arranged for you. It’s the cops, Jace. And they’re here to arrest you for fraudulent practices.”

Jace’s eyes widened in shock. “What? That’s ridiculous! I haven’t done anything illegal!”

Frank leaned back in his chair, his arms crossed over his chest. “Well, that’s not what our investigation shows,” he said smugly.

Michael rushed to the window and peered outside. “Holy crap, there are at least ten cop cars out there,” he exclaimed.

Jace could feel the panic rising in his chest. He couldn’t believe this was happening. “You set me up, Frank,” he spat out. “You planned this all along, didn’t you?”

Frank just shrugged. “Hey, you know how the game is played, Jace. You win some, you lose some.”

Jace gritted his teeth, feeling a surge of anger. He knew he had to think fast if he wanted to get out of this mess. “What evidence do you have against me?” he demanded.

Frank smirked. “Oh, plenty. We have financial records that show you’ve been embezzling money from the company. And we have witnesses who will testify against you.”

Jace felt his heart sink. He knew that he had been cutting corners to keep the company afloat, but he never thought it would come to this. “I’ll fight this in court,” he said, his voice shaking.

Frank just chuckled. “Good luck with that, Jace. You’ll be spending a long time behind bars.”

As the sound of sirens grew louder, Jace felt a sinking feeling in his stomach. He had been outmaneuvered by Frank, and now he was paying the price.

Jace stood frozen, watching as the flashing blue and red lights of the police cars grew closer and closer. He couldn’t believe what was happening.

As the first police car screeched to a stop in front of Frank’s mansion, several officers jumped out, their weapons drawn. Jace could hear their voices shouting for him to put his hands up and get on the ground.

He slowly raised his hands in surrender, but his mind was racing. What was going to happen to him? Would he go to jail? Would he lose his company? What about his wife?.

Michael stood by his side, a look of shock and disbelief on his face. “This is insane,” he muttered.

Frank watched the scene from the doorway of his mansion, a satisfied smirk on his face. “Looks like you’re in a bit of trouble, Jace,” he said, his voice dripping with satisfaction.

The officers moved in, handcuffing Jace and leading him towards one of the waiting police cars. Jace’s mind was a blur as he was shoved into the backseat of the car and driven away.

The ride to the police station was tense and silent, with Jace lost in his thoughts and the officers focused on their duty. When they arrived at the station, Jace was processed and booked, his fingerprints and photo taken and his personal belongings confiscated.

He was led to a holding cell, where he sat alone in the dark, the reality of the situation finally sinking in. He had been arrested, and it was all because of Frank.

Jace didn’t know what the future held, but he knew one thing for sure: he was going to fight tooth and nail to clear his name and prove his innocence.
