Chapter 1
The Forbidden Orchard
The rain didn’t just fall; it hammered against the earth like a thousand frantic fists. Farhan Malik hunched his shoulders, his thin jacket soaked through within minutes. The wind howled through the skeletal branches of the forest, a jagged, mournful sound that made the hair on his arms stand up. He stumbled over a slick root, his breath hitching in his throat.
"Man, this is just great," Farhan muttered, wiping stinging rain from his eyes. "Lost in the middle of nowhere, soaking wet, and I can’t see five feet in front of my face. Perfect way to spend a Tuesday, right?"
He squinted, looking for any semblance of a trail, but the forest floor had turned into a treacherous slide of mud and rotting leaves. He had hiked out here for a photo assignment, thinking he could find a shortcut back to the main road, but the storm had turned the landscape into a labyrinth. Every tree looked the same, gnarled, ancient, and looming.
"Is anybody out here?" he shouted, though his voice sounded pathetically small against the crashing thunder. "Hey! I’m just trying to find the trail! Anyone?"
No one answered. Just the rustle of leaves and the persistent, rhythmic drumming of the storm. He kept walking, driven by a desperate, shivering need for cover. Finally, the dense thicket thinned out, revealing a clearing that shouldn't have existed. It was a perfect circle, shielded by a canopy of interlocking branches that seemed to defy the wind.
At the center stood a tree, unlike any he had ever seen. Its bark was a deep, iridescent violet, and hanging from its low-slung branches were fruits that glowed with a soft, pulsing golden light.
"Whoa," Farhan breathed, leaning against the edge of the clearing. "What on earth is that? Is that radioactive or something? Maybe I should stay away."
He stood there for a moment, chest heaving. His hunger was a sharp, gnawing pain in his stomach, he hadn't eaten since early morning, and the sight of the fruit made his mouth water involuntarily. He stepped closer, the glow casting long, dancing shadows across his damp clothes.
"I mean, it looks like food, right?" he whispered to himself, his fingers brushing his damp hair. "It’s got to be food. Nature doesn't usually make things glow unless it wants to be eaten, or it wants to kill you. Usually, it's the second one."
He looked back at the darkening forest. The cold was seeping into his bones now, a deep, numbing ache. He was shivering violently, his teeth chattering loud enough to hear.
"Look, I’m freezing to death out here anyway," Farhan said, his voice trembling as he stepped into the center of the grove. "If I die of hypothermia, that’s just sad. If I eat this and it’s poisonous, well, at least I’m not cold anymore. It’s a trade-off, really."
He reached out, his hand shaking, and plucked one of the golden fruits. It was warm to the touch, vibrating slightly against his palm. He stared at it, the golden light reflecting in his eyes, washing out his pupils.
"Don't do it, Farhan. Don't be an idiot," he scolded himself, but his hand moved before his brain could protest.
He took a bite. The flesh was soft, bursting with a flavor that was both tart and incredibly sweet, like nothing he had ever tasted. It felt like drinking liquid sunlight.
"Oh, wow," he managed to say, his eyes widening. "That’s actually... that’s actually incredible."
He took another bite, then another, devouring the fruit in seconds. He threw the pit to the ground and wiped his mouth, feeling a strange, pleasant tingle spread from his tongue down into his chest.
"Okay, that was definitely the best thing I've ever eaten," he said, letting out a short, nervous laugh. "Maybe it’s not poisonous after all? Maybe I just found a hidden orchard. Maybe I’m lucky for once in my life."
He stood up, intending to find a spot under the thick branches to sleep off the storm, but then the sensation changed. The tingle intensified, turning into a searing heat that surged through his veins like molten lead.
"Whoa, what the..." Farhan gasped, stumbling back. He clutched his chest, his hands gripping his shirt so hard the fabric tore. "What is happening? My insides... it feels like they’re burning!"
He collapsed to his knees, his vision blurring. Every cell in his body felt like it was igniting. It wasn't the kind of pain that made you want to scream; it was the kind that made you feel like you were being rewritten from the inside out. He could hear a rhythmic pulsing sound, not coming from the forest, but from within his own marrow.
"Make it stop!" he yelled, his voice cracking. "Seriously, what was in that fruit? Am I having a heart attack? I’m twenty-four, I shouldn't be having a heart attack!"
He tried to stand, but his limbs wouldn't obey. He felt heavy, anchored to the earth, while his internal world felt like it was expanding, vibrating at a frequency that made his teeth ache.
"Get up, Farhan," he gritted out, panting heavily. "Just breathe. It’s just... some kind of weird reaction. Just breathe through it, man."
As he fought to stay conscious, a strange, cool sensation washed over his mind. It felt like a tether being snapped into place, hooking directly into his soul. A glowing, holographic interface flickered into existence before his eyes, shimmering in the rain-darkened air.
[SYSTEM INITIALIZING...]
[DIVINE FRUIT SYSTEM BINDING TO HOST: FARHAN MALIK...]
[SYNCHRONIZATION: 10%... 40%... 80%...]
Farhan blinked, waving his hand through the translucent text. "What is this? Am I hallucinating? Is this a projection? Is someone pranking me out here in the middle of a storm?"
[SYNCHRONIZATION COMPLETE.]
[HOST BOUND TO THE DIVINE FRUIT SYSTEM.]
[INITIATING INITIAL MUTATION: PHASE ONE.]
He felt a new surge of energy, far more intense than before, shooting through his nervous system. It felt like pure electricity arcing through his spine. He curled into a ball on the muddy ground, gasping for air as the world around him seemed to sharpen in focus. He could see the individual veins on the leaves, the microscopic droplets of water clinging to the grass, every detail was hyper-vivid, almost overwhelming.
"Stop," he wheezed, his fingers digging into the mud. "Just stop! I don’t know what you are, but I don’t want any part of this! Just turn off!"
Suddenly, the wind died down. The forest went deathly silent, the storm clouds seemingly parting above the clearing to reveal a singular, impossible hole of starlight in the sky.
From that empty space, a sound descended. It wasn't a roar or a rumble, but a laugh. It was a cold, melodic, and utterly inhuman sound that echoed through his very mind, reverberating against the walls of his consciousness. It sounded like the laughter of a god looking down at an ant that had just walked into a trap.
"What is that?" Farhan whispered, terror clutching his throat. "Who’s there?"
The laughter echoed again, deeper this time, vibrating through the trees.
[INITIAL MUTATION STARTED,] the system announced in a cool, mechanical tone, overlaying the fading echo of the laughter.
Farhan watched as his own veins began to glow with the same golden light as the fruit, pulsing in sync with his heart. He wasn't just a man in a forest anymore. He was something else entirely, and as the system's final chime rang out, he knew with a sickening, sinking feeling that there was no going back to the way things were.
"This," he whispered, staring at his glowing hands, "is going to be a very, very long night."

The Fruit of Unpredictable Divinity A Precarious Alliance
The air inside the safehouse smelled of stale coffee, industrial floor wax, and the metallic tang of hidden weapons. Farhan gasped, his eyes snapping open. The white ceiling didn't look like his, and the silence was too heavy to be his own apartment. He sat up, but his shoulder screamed in protest, forcing him to clutch his side."Take it easy," a voice said from the shadows.Mariana stepped into the light, a mug in each hand. She looked exhausted, her hair pulled back into a messy bun, her tactical jacket discarded on a nearby chair. She offered him the steaming mug."Where am I?" Farhan asked, his voice raw. He ignored the coffee, his hands curling into defensive fists. "How did I get here? And why am I still alive?""You're in a basement that doesn't exist on any municipal map," Mariana said, setting the mug on a metal table. "You got here because I dragged you into my car after you fried that entire warehouse. And you're alive because I’m a glutton for punishment, apparently."Far

The Fruit of Unpredictable Divinity The Journalist's Lead
The flickering orange glow of the city grid map on Mariana’s tablet cast harsh, angular shadows across her face. She sat in the driver’s seat of her parked sedan, the engine purring softly, a stark contrast to the chaotic data streaming across her screen. Every spike, every localized surge, and every anomalous reading from the last twenty-four hours was tagged with a timestamp and a set of GPS coordinates. She traced the trail with a gloved finger. It wasn't random. It was a path."You’re a real mess, aren't you, kid?" she muttered to the empty car. "First a localized thermal event that turned an apartment into an oven. Then a mass-displacement gravity fluctuation over the rooftops. And finally... this."She tapped the screen, bringing up the most recent alert: a massive, localized EMP that had fried every electronic device within a three-block radius of the old industrial district."Electricity," she whispered, her voice tight with a mixture of professional obsession and genuine conc

The Fruit of Unpredictable Divinity Storm in the Veins
Chapter 8: Storm in the VeinsThe air behind the apartment building didn't just vibrate; it shrieked. As Farhan hit the fire escape, every screw, bolt, and rusted iron plate reacted to his presence. Sparks, brilliant and jagged as broken glass, erupted from his fingertips, dancing in a frantic, uncoordinated ballet."Stop! Please, just stop!" Farhan gasped. He didn't realize he was shouting aloud until his own voice crackled with a distorted, synthetic interference, like a radio playing through a blown-out speaker. He looked at the railing; his hand had fused to the metal for a microsecond before the connection vaporized the iron entirely. A gaping hole now sat where the railing should have been."You're not a man anymore, kid," he whispered to the wind, his voice flickering in and out. "You're a short circuit."He didn't look back at the window where Mariana stood. He didn't look for Jax. He simply leapt. He cleared the alleyway with a single, terrified bound, his descent cushioned b

The Fruit of Unpredictable Divinity The Hidden Threat
Farhan stood before the door, the wood groaning as he shifted his weight. His skin, now a heavy, matte-grey alloy, felt like a suit of armor he couldn't take off. He didn't wait for an invitation. He gripped the door handle, the metal snapping off under his pressurized grip, and shoved the barrier aside.Mariana stood in the hallway, looking more amused than alarmed. She wasn't alone. Beside her, a man with a shaved head and tactical gear that looked military-grade held a silenced pistol leveled at Farhan’s chest."I thought you said he was a 'hot' specimen," the man muttered, eyes darting over Farhan’s metallic complexion. "Looks like a bad DIY project with house paint.""Careful, Jax," Mariana said, not moving a muscle. "That 'paint' is denser than reinforced concrete. Don't waste your ammo."Farhan stepped out, his footfalls heavy enough to make the floorboards vibrate. "Who is this guy, Mariana? You said you weren't the ones hunting me.""I’m not. But he works for the people who w
