Nothing sharp.

Nothing rigid.

The shape formed the way water might if it could hold still long enough to become solid.

Lorian watched closely, kneeling beside them. Their expression was calm — no fear, no confusion, just quiet attention. Their presence no longer flickered. They had weight now. Shape. Self.

The builder soul stepped back a little, letting the ground settle.

They stayed near the forming trees as the light shifted. No one called the moment anything. They didn’t name it rest or waiting or recovery. They just existed there for a while, breathing at the same pace as the world around them.Selene sat with the child again. The child leaned back against her, small and warm, their hair brushing softly against her arm. She wrapped an arm around them without thinking. The gesture wasn’t protective or fearful. It was just natural. Something her body knew how to do without being told. The woman settled across from them, her legs folded beneath her. She watched the trees continue to form. The bark was gaining texture now, grains and small lines slowly appearing like memory surfacing through the surface of the world. The boy arranged stones into a loose circle. He didn’t explain what he was doing, but the meaning was clear. A place to sit around. A place to gather. A centre without needing to be said aloud. The quiet figure smoothed the last of the dir

  • Chapter Eighty-Six: Settling

The morning continued with a quiet rhythm. No one rushed to speak. The air sat warm over the plateau, and the ground held a steady weight beneath them, as if the world wanted them to feel anchored.Selene moved a few steps away from the group and lowered herself onto the grass. It bent under her and stayed shaped to her form before easing back. Everything here seemed to respond to presence, not command. She rested her palms against the ground and felt a soft pulse under her fingertips, slow and steady, like a heartbeat learning to beat. The child sat beside her again. They did not cling or ask questions. They simply stayed close, as if that alone was enough to feel safe. The woman looked over the ridge, observing the forming shapes of distant land. Her posture was relaxed but aware. The boy sat cross-legged near the edge, his eyes following the slow movement of the river below. The quiet figure remained still, hands resting on their knees, gaze forward but soft. Their silence did not

  • Chapter Eighty-Three: The Water Remembers

The river moved slowly, as if it were waking up too. Thin ripples spread across its surface in soft patterns, reflecting a sky that was still learning how to be blue. The water was clear, but not empty. Light threaded through it, like memory suspended in motion. Selene knelt at the riverbank with the child still resting lightly against her shoulder. The child’s small hand curled near her collarbone, fingers twitching once in their sleep, settling again. The woman sat close enough to watch, but not so close that she intruded. Her breathing had steadied. Not calm, but present. Selene dipped her free hand into the water. It was cool not cold and the sensation felt familiar. Not from this world, but from before. She could feel the echo of it. The boy knelt beside her. He didn’t ask permission. He just moved to where he felt he should be. His hands hovered above the surface before touching it. He flinched. Selene turned to him. “What did you feel?” He kept his gaze on the water. “It

The first group of arrivals settled near the river, their movements quiet and exhausted. The air felt different now. Not heavy, but watchful.Kaelen sensed it as well. His posture shifted forward the slightest amount, attention sharpening without aggression. Not defensive. Prepared. The figures emerging from the distance were fewer than the last. Only three. The first was a boy no older than seventeen. His clothes were torn at the edges, and the fabric was faded grey. His hair hung over his eyes. The child’s head was tucked into her shoulder, small fingers grasping the fabric of her shirt. The woman’s eyes stayed locked on
