Caden left Karl’s office , his eyes glancing over his shoulders every now and then.

Melody was right, he's been acting strange these past few days. He had even told him off that night he was at their house.

Karl never disagrees with him. By now, when his proposal to Anna had failed and his attempt to make Melody jealiys look stupid, he would have called him and asked what to do.

He would be scrambling to figure out how to get Melody back and that worry is often lined on his face.

But right now, Karl looked…very well. He was well dressed for the first time, well fractionally even. That's…very unlike his friend.

And there was something unsettling about the way his friend looked at him. Like he knew something.

Cadem shook his head and clenched his fist. That's not possible. He and Melody had been extremely careful about their plan.

There's no way he could have known what they were planning.

Or was there?

Instead of his office, Caden made a turn down the hallway, heading for Melody's office.

Melody’s office door came into view, and his steps quickened. He knocked lightly and waited

“Come in,” Melody said.

He stepped in, closing the door gently behind him.

Her eyes met his in an instant, “Tell me you were able to convince him.”

He walked deeper into the office, “I just spoke with Karl. He’ll work on the Leon project,” he said.

Melody exhaled like she's been holding her breath all day. “Thank Goodness.” She muttered.” I was worried he would ruin this for us.”

Caden chuckled, “He won't. We've worked too hard for his tantrums to ruin our plans.”

Melody nodded, leaning back in her seat. “I know but he's going so far with whatever this is.” She exhaled, “Like he told me he wanted out if the pitch and I was so confused. Is he trying to punish me?” she groaned, "I'm so done with him!”

“You're right." Caden replied, leaning casually against the edge of her desk, watching her. “He is acting a bit strange.”

Melody froze. Her pulse quickened at the words, her hand tightening around her pen. “He is?"

Caden nodded, “I think so. I don't know what exactly it is but he does act differently..”

Melody gasped as a thought occurred to her. She glanced at Caden whispering, “Do you think he knows?”

Caden went silent, his thoughts running through the possibility of Karl knowing what they were up to.

“I don't think so.” He said,”if he did, the smart thing to do would be to leave or confront us.”

Melody's eyes flickered from one end of the room to another, brows furrowed.

“There's no way he knows.” She said, “We've been careful.”

Caden nodded. “He's trying to get forum attention. That is what this is.”

Melody nods but deep down, she wasn't convinced.

Caden leans closer, “Don't worry about it. We can fix this.”

Melody’s eyes narrowed, suspicion flashing across her face. “And how exactly are we going to ‘fix’ this?”

Caden stepped closer. “By making sure Karl does what he’s supposed to do. We’ll get him married to you in a month. Then Allure becomes yours once we get rid of him.”

Her gaze flicked to him, the worry still lined her face, “And you’re sure about this?” she asked.

Caden smiled, closing the distance between them. His fingers brushed hers lightly as he reached for her hand, lacing it through his.

“Sure? Melody, I’ve been sure since the day he showed interest in you in college. Don’t let his little rebellion get to you. That's what he wants.”

Melody exhaled as she shut her eyes. He was right, Karl was only trying to get into her head. She shouldn't let him.

“You… you always know how to calm me down,” she whispered, a nervous laugh escaping her lips.

Caden’s smile widened.

“I do, don’t I?” he murmured, his voice low.

His other hand moved up, brushing a stray strand of hair from her cheek, letting his fingers linger there for a moment.

Her breathing hitched as he leaned in, “Caden…” she started, her voice low.

“Shh,” he said softly, pressing a finger to her lips, brushing them. “Relax. Let me take care of you for a moment.”

Her body responded to him before he even touched her. He got closer, cupped her face and kissed her lips. He moved slowly, and enough for her to ease into his arms like she always does.

His hand left her chin and went down to her assistant, fingers digging into the softness of it all.

Melody moaned like the hungry, sex starved woman he knew. He pulled her closer and lifted her off the ground before settling her on the desk, her legs parted for him.

Caden smirked. She wouldn't even let Karl touch her and yet, here she was, already pleading with her eyes like her life defended on it.

Of course she was. She was his bitch lately.

He kissed her again, cupping her breast against the shirt and earning a moan from her. He didn't even need to do too much to arouse her.

That was the interesting part about fucking her.

They'd done it everywhere. The living area, the kitchen, in her room, in Karl's room and on his bed.. even in the office right before she heads home with Karl..

Heck, he'd fucked her in the bathroom cubicle while Karl was right outside but he hadn't noticed.

His hands slipped under her skirt and yanked down her panties, she was so wet and ready for him. His fingers slipped in gently, earning a moment from her as his kisses deepened.

This was what Karl wanted all to himself? That greedy bastard. Does he really think a beautiful and sexy woman like Melody deserved someone like him?

Caden doubted he had the stamina to fuck her right and yet he claimed to be her boyfriend. Unbelievable.

“Spread them.” He ordered and she obeyed, pulling up her skirt to her waist and leaning back for him to get a better view.

He undid his belt and pulled her closer to thrust into her. She moaned again, shamelessly trembling under his arms.

And then…

The door swung open and the duo froze.

Karl stood there..

Sunlight crept across the wide bedroom floor and over the large bed where Anna laid under the duvet. She stirred, eyes fluttering open slowly to the bedside drawer next to her. It felt unfamiliar. Usually, she was used to waking up to the distant traffic outside her apartment, the neighbor’s television blasting through the walls, the sound of the fan above her bed but instead, all she could hear was silence. Her brows drew together as her eyes slowly opened. For a moment she did not move. Her mind felt foggy and a slight migraine crawled it way too her head and her eyes. Where is she? This is definitely not her house. What happened then? How did she get here? Anna shifted and her bare skin brushed against the fabric. She had no clothes on.Her heart lurched violently in her chest as she yanked the duvet up to see she was naked. ‘What the hell?’ She panicked. Why is she naked in some random room? She pulled the duvet closer around herself, sitting up abruptly as her eyes scanned

  • Chapter 37: The Girl Called Anna

Karl pushed open the door to the hotel room as quietly as he could. The last thing he wanted was for him to wake her up. The door swung open and he stepped inside quietly, his eyes adjusting to the dim light filtering through the curtains. His eyes searched the small sitting area, he could have dropped it on the couch or even on the bed. He searched the room but there was no sign of his phone. Karl ran his fingers through his hair, where the hell is it? He walked deeper into the room and stopped to see Anna, sitting on the edge of the bed, her hair tousled from sleep, her cheeks flushed clearly from the shots she had earlier. Her eyes met his, searching his face for something he couldn't really put a finger on. “Hey.” He said quietly. “Just came for my phone. Didn't mean to wake you.” Anna said nothing but she took a step closer to him, eyes fixed on his face with something he couldn't quite pin point. “Anna?” “This has to be a dream.” She mumbled, he could barely make out t

  • Chapter 36: Drunk Anna

An Hour Prior. Karl sat back on the couch of his loft, staring at the sunset through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Usually, his evenings are quiet but some specimen of a human being decided that would change tonight. Zach leaned against the countertop behind him, arms folded and a sly grin tugging at the corners of his mouth. “You’re not seriously going to sit here all night, are you?”Karl didn’t respond immediately. His eyes followed the sun. He had barely left his apartment since returning, and the thought of leaving and walking into a crowded, loud club seemed almost absurd.Zach dropped into the chair opposite him. “Come on, we used to do this back then.” Karl nodded, “Yes. But I didn't have a target on my back back then.” Zach winched, “Are you sure?" He wasn't exactly the most likeable person back then. At least because he stood for what was right but in the world of lobbyists, that is not a good look. “I don’t need to go out,” Karl said finally, his voice calm.”It's m

  • Chaoter 35: No Different From The Devil

Anna did not expect the slap. The sound of it cracked through the office before she even fully processed what had happened. Her head jerked to the side as pain flared across her cheek. For a moment the room spun slightly and she tasted copper at the back of her mouth where her teeth had cut into the inside of her lip.She stood frozen where she was, one hand slowly rising to touch the burning skin of her face.Across the desk, Melody was still standing with her arm half-lowered and her eyes as cold as ever.“How dare you?!” Melody said.Anna blinked, trying to steady herself. Her thoughts struggled to catch up with the situation. Only minutes earlier she had been called into the office without explanation and then she got hit. Across the room, Caden stood behind Melody, hands to his pocket as his gaze remained fixed on Anna. She had always thought Caden would do anything Melody asked but she'd been wrong. He was pretending to be tameable. Melody turned slightly toward him. “You we

  • Chapter 34: The Real Caden

Anna arrived at the office earlier than usual that Monday morning. The building had not yet filled with employees and visitors that normally crowded the halls by midmorning. She could barely sleep during the weekend, not after the strange events of the previous week. She had paid the hospital a visit and they don't seem to know he had sorted her brother's hospital bill either which makes it even more strange. That was more than a million dollars and someone had just made payments like it was nothing. How could she sleep? As soon as Monday rolled around the corner, she had made her way down to the office earlier than usual, she needed a distraction. She placed her bag on her desk and switched on her computer, the familiar glow of the screen illuminating the workspace she had grown used to over the past three years. Melody’s schedule had been full this week.A business lunch with investors, a meeting with a marketing firm, two calls with international partners, and an evening charity

  • Chapter 33: Why Melody.

Karl stood near the long table that sat in the center of the living area, his attention fixed on the large monitor Zach had connected to his laptop. The glow from the screen washed across the room, illuminating the three men gathered around it while the rest of the loft remained dim. Reed stood a few steps behind Karl with his hands behind his back and faced a void of expression as usual. He had asked Maxwell to allow him the honour of serving Karl again after years of the young master's disappearance. Luckily, the old man had agreed. Why he did remains a mystery to both Karl and Reed. Zach sat in front of the laptop with one leg stretched out under the table and the other bouncing slightly as his fingers moved across the keyboard. Several windows filled the screen; security footage, timestamps, and small digital maps that marked the location of different cameras inside and outside the ballroom where the attack had happened.Karl had decided to look deeper into the attack, someth
