The ride back to Faye's apartment was filled with uncomfortable silence, the tension from the charity dinner still hanging heavy between them.

Yemin had borrowed a towel from the hotel staff to clean the champagne from his face and hair, but his expensive suit remained damp and stained.

Faye kept stealing glances at him as they sat in the back of the taxi, her mind racing with questions and concerns. Finally, as they pulled up to her building, she couldn't contain herself any longer.

"Yemin," she said quietly, "I have to ask you something."

"What is it?" he replied, his voice still calm despite everything that had happened.

"What's really going on between you and Katherine? I mean, the way she was acting tonight... it was like she was trying to mark her territory or something."

Yemin sighed and looked out the window at the city lights passing by.

"Faye, I can assure you that whatever Katherine was doing tonight was completely one-sided. I have no idea what kind of game she's playing,

The receptionist slid the key across the counter with obvious reluctance."Here's your key. But just so you know, it's only because Crusher here vouched for you. If it was up to me, you'd be sleeping in the gutter where you belong.""I understand," Yemin said, pocketing the key."Come on, old timer," Crusher said, gesturing toward the elevator. "I'll show you to your room. Make sure you don't get lost."As they walked toward the elevator, the receptionist called out after them. "Good luck tomorrow, grandpa! Hope you got good insurance!"The elevator was small and dimly lit, with graffiti scratched into the metal walls and a lingering smell of sweat and violence. As soon as the doors closed, Crusher's friendly demeanor evaporated completely."Alright, old man," Crusher said, his voice dropping to a menacing growl. "Time to pay the toll.""The toll?" Yemin asked innocently."Yeah, the toll," Crusher said, cracking his massive knuckles. "See, I helped you out back there, got you a room w

The fighters' accommodation was a converted motel on the outskirts of the warehouse district, its neon sign flickering intermittently in the night air.Yemin approached the front desk with his single duffel bag slung over his shoulder, his plain clothes and modest appearance making him look more like a lost tourist than a professional fighter.Behind the reception desk sat a greasy-haired man in his forties, his arms covered in poorly done tattoos and his face bearing the scars of someone who had seen too many fights from the losing side.He looked up from his magazine as Yemin approached, his expression immediately shifting to one of disdain."Yeah, what do you want?" the receptionist asked rudely, not bothering to set down his magazine."I need a room," Yemin said politely, placing his accommodation slip on the counter."I registered for the fights tonight and was told to come here."The receptionist glanced at the slip, then looked Yemin up and down with obvious contempt."Sorry, p

As Yemin exited the warehouse, he was confronted by a well-dressed man in his thirties who had clearly been waiting for him.The man wore an expensive suit and carried himself with the arrogance of someone who had never been told no."Hey, you!" the man called out aggressively."You're the asshole who just humiliated that beautiful woman in there!""I'm sorry, do I know you?" Yemin asked calmly, studying the stranger's flushed face and clenched fists."My name is Bradley Westbrook," the man said pompously."And I've been watching you treat Katherine Shaw like garbage for the past ten minutes.""Katherine Shaw's treatment is none of your business," Yemin replied evenly."It is my business when I see a nobody like you acting too proud to appreciate a goddess like her," Bradley snarled."Do you have any idea how many men would kill for a chance with a woman like that?""Then maybe you should be one of them," Yemin suggested."If you want Katherine so badly, go talk to her yourself instea

As Yemin gathered his belongings and prepared to head to the fighters' quarters, a familiar voice called out from behind him, causing him to freeze mid-step."Yemin! Wait!"He turned to see Katherine Shaw pushing through the crowd of spectators and fighters, her designer dress completely out of place in the grimy warehouse environment. Her perfectly styled hair and expensive jewelry made her stand out like a diamond in a coal mine."Katherine," Yemin said with obvious displeasure, "what are you doing here?""I came to see you," she said breathlessly, having clearly rushed to catch up with him. "We need to talk.""If this is about James and his childish behavior at the charity dinner, I have no interest in dealing with that again," Yemin said firmly. "I've tolerated enough of his tantrums.""No, no, that's not why I'm here," Katherine said quickly, her voice taking on a pleading tone. "James doesn't even know I came here tonight.""Then what do you want?" Yemin asked impatiently, glanc

"I'm here to register for the fights," Yemin said calmly. The man burst into laughter, his gold teeth glinting under the harsh fluorescent lights. "You hear that, Tony? Grandpa here wants to fight."Tony, a massive bouncer with arms like tree trunks, looked over with amusement. "What's he want to fight? His arthritis?""Listen, pops," the registrar said, still chuckling, "this is a serious fighting circuit. We got trained killers, ex-military, professional fighters. What we don't got is a place for senior citizens to get their skulls cracked.""I can handle myself," Yemin replied simply."Can you?" The registrar leaned back in his chair, studying Yemin with cruel amusement. "You know what happens to fighters who can't cut it here? They get carried out on stretchers. Sometimes they don't get carried out at all.""I understand the risks," Yemin said."Do you?" Tony interjected, moving closer to loom over Yemin. "Because I'm looking at a man who probably can't even open a pickle jar with
