The atmosphere thickened with tension as gasps rippled through the classroom. Every student who heard the pairing glanced at Mason, who remained calm, to Natalia, whose features now knitted into a frown.

“I don't like this,” Jeremiah, sitting next to his best friend, muttered as he narrowed his gaze in the direction of Natalia and Jacobs, who was also surprised. “This is all my fault. I'm sorry,” he added in a whisper.

Mason cast him a faint smile. “It's okay,” he replied, before meeting Cleopatra's gaze. He wished it was Cleopatra whose name was called, and from her eyes, he could tell she also wanted to be his partner.

Ms. Sonia, caught off guard by the sudden whispers, scanned the room, trying to decode the unspoken drama unfolding before her.

“What a bloody coincidence!” a voice murmured from the far corner, igniting hushed discussions among the curious students.

“What a terrible pairing! Didn't they used to date?” A voice murmured, just loud enough for everyone nearby to catch t

  • The List

Just as Mason was about to proceed to the back of the class, his eyes landed on Cleopatra, who had been staring at him since the moment he entered the class. Her green eyes drifted from Mason's eye to his lip and then back to his eyes. “Hi!” She muttered, the words slowly rolling off her lips. Mason dropped his gaze to her lips, swallowing hard. “Hey,” he whispers discreetly before returning his gaze to the direction of his seat.He had only stared at her once, but Cleopatra's image still played in his head.A few minutes after Mason and Jeremiah had settled into their seats, Mrs. Sonia entered the classroom. Her figure commanded silence. “Everyone, please take your seats,” she instructed.Gradually, the chatter diminished as the students shifted, making their way to their assigned desks. A group of absentees lingered at the back, unable to find seats. Their presence was a visible reminder of their infrequent attendance.“I’m glad to see that most of you have finally decided to gra

  • Parking Lot

The engineering faculty bustled with cars, which crowded the parking lot. Jeremiah, seeing an opening, rolled his car into space, and the engine faded into silence. Mason, sitting in the passenger seat, slid out of the car, taking a moment to absorb the familiar sights of his facility. Indeed, it has been a while since he has been on campus.“Hey, what’s on your mind, bro?” Jacob called from behind, interrupting Mason's thoughts. He leaned casually against his car, with his brow raised in curiosity. “Please don’t tell me you’re thinking about that piece of shit and her dumbass boyfriend,” he added, a smirk creeping onto his face.Mason, with a grin, shook his head, redirecting his gaze to Jacob's car screeching past another vehicle to claim the last parking space.“I moved on a long time ago, Jeremiah. Those two aren’t worth my time,” Mason replied, noticing the concerned expression on his friend’s face."That's good," Jeremiah muttered, his tone filled with encouragement. He leaned s

  • It's Not Worth A Million Dollars

Just as Jacob was about to say another word, a car overtook them, forcing him to slam on the brakes.Everyone's attention shifted to Jeremiah, who stepped out of his sleek, black sedan. The moment Natalia recognized him, she quickly averted her gaze to her phone, avoiding any eye contact. Since Jeremiah returned to Aleric City and learned of the incident, he hadn't spoken to her.As he looked in her direction, his expression was devoid of the warm familiarity he once wore in the past.Averting his gaze back to his friend. “Mason!” He called, waving at him. A smile spread across Mason's face when he noticed Jeremiah's new car. “You got a new car!” Mason exclaimed. Jeremiah, seeing his friend's genuine happiness,

  • A Mysterious Passenger

Morning came by fast, casting a golden hue over the bustling streets of Aleric University. The familiar sight of students flooded the premises, carrying out their mundane activities. Unlike every other day, on which Mason drove in with his Bugatti, today he didn't; rather, he was sitting at the back of a taxi. “Good day, sir, did you have your pass?” The security man stationed at the entrance of the university inquired, glancing from the taxi driver to Mason, whose gaze was focused on his phone. “Sorry, sir, I forgot my pass, but you can check it in your system to confirm,” the taxi driver said, but the security guard gave him an apologetic look. “I’m sorry, sir, but according to university policy, no pass means no entry for vehicles,” the guard replied as he gestured for the car to reverse. Mason, finally noticing that they had come to a stop, turned his gaze toward the security guard. If the guard knew who he was, he surely wouldn’t hesitate to let them through. “Don't w
