Angelica blinked twice, her laughter slowly fading as she noticed the mischievous grin spreading across my face.

“...Help?” she repeated, her eyes narrowing.

“That’s right,” I said, stepping back from the water’s edge. “I already have a blueprint in mind.”

She folded her massive arms, her tail flicking suspiciously.

“Every time you say that, something bizarre happens.”

“Have my plans failed yet?”

Angelica opened her mouth, paused, and grunted softly. “...Technically, no.”

“Exactly.”

I crouched near the shoreline, scooping up a handful of damp soil and sifting it between my fingers before letting it drop.

“The lake bed is too deep for me to reach the relic by holding my breath,” I said, analyzing the terrain. “And even if I could swim, we’d be fighting aquatic fauna on their home turf.”

“The Glimmer-Hounds,” Angelica noted, her playful tone vanishing. “They’re the lake’s apex guardians. Extremely fast underwater—much faster than I am—and far more aggressive than surface beasts.”

“So charging in blindly is suicide.” I smiled faintly. “Good thing I don't plan on charging in blindly.”

Closing my eyes, I extended my hand toward the surrounding tree line, letting silver mana flow smoothly through my body.

The nearby roots shuddered beneath the soil. Thick, fibrous vines slithered across the forest floor like obedient serpents, weaving together in front of me.

Angelica’s crimson eyes sparkled. “Ooooh... they’re actually responding to your mental weave.”

“It’s just matter manipulation,” I murmured as the vines compressed into a dense, multi-ply cord over twenty meters long. I tested its tensile strength with both hands; the material refused to yield. “Perfect. High tensile strength, flexible, and resistant to monster bite force.”

Angelica poked it curiously. “It’s tougher than forged steel.”

“It needs to be.” I tossed one end to her. “Tie this securely around your waist. If something goes wrong down there, you pull me back to shore.”

She caught the line effortlessly, looping it around her torso with an experimental tug. “And if I get dragged in?”

“Then I’ll use spatial magic to pull us both out.”

Reaching into my satchel, I picked up a sturdy piece of petrified wood from the shoreline. Silver light flared around my fingers as I activated Creation Magic a second time, peeling away the outer bark to shape a dense, carved key imbued with a basic energy conduit.

“What’s that for?” Angelica asked, crouching beside me.

“The quest log mentioned a sealed interface at the lakebed,” I explained, securing the carved conduit into my belt pouch. “If it’s a physical lock, this gives us a medium to bypass the mechanical trigger.”

I stepped toward the shoreline, the cold water washing over my leather boots. Even standing ankle-deep sent a brief spike of tension through my chest.

Angelica caught the subtle hesitation in my posture. “...You’re actually uneasy.”

I let out a low breath. “I almost drowned in a river when I was seven. My father pulled me out, but... deep water and I have never been on good terms since.”

Her usual teasing demeanor dissolved, replaced by genuine quiet. “So it’s not that you just skipped swimming lessons. You have a genuine trauma.”

“Something like that,” I admitted with a faint, self-deprecating smile.

Angelica stepped beside me, lightly bumping my shoulder with her clawed arm. “It’s fine, Oppa. I’ll keep you anchored down there.”

I blinked, looking up at her. “That’s surprisingly reassuring.”

l She puffed out her chest proudly. “Of course. I’m Princess Angelica—the most capable warrior in this forest.”

“And there’s the ego.”

“I almost forgot to mention it,” she grinned, her expression softening. “Ready when you are.”

Angelica closed her eyes, chanting in the melodic, ancient dialect of the dark elves. Emerald light flared around us, wrapping our bodies in a shimmering aquatic aura.

The transformation took hold instantly. Smooth, iridescent blue scales formed along our skin, thin membranes emerged between our fingers, and a cool sensation washed over my neck as delicate gills opened beneath my jaw line.

I touched my neck, inhaling carefully. The humid night air flowed effortlessly through the new gill structures, feeling completely natural.

“Incredible,” I whispered, flexing my webbed hands.

“Told you,” Angelica winked, adjusting her posture. “Now let’s grab that relic before the hounds wake up.”

Side by side, we stepped into the cold depths of the lake.

The moment we submerged, the ambient sounds of the rainforest vanished, replaced by the deep, muffled hum of the underwater ecosystem. Moonlight cut through the clear water in shimmering silver pillars, illuminating schools of glowing fish darting through aquatic flora.

My transformed body moved through the current with effortless fluidity. Each stroke propelled me meters forward without the sensation of resistance.

As we descended deeper, the vibrant coral gave way to submerged stone architecture. Broken marble pillars, cracked fountains, and collapsed archways rested silent on the lakebed—the submerged lower district of the ancient elven city.

A golden beacon pulsed in the gloom ahead.

“There,” I signaled, pointing toward a colossal stone gate carved into the lake’s abyssal floor.

The entrance stood nearly thirty meters tall, wrapped in heavy moss-covered chains. At its center rested a heavy circular lock mechanism shaped distinctly like a game pod interface.

I swam closer, pulling the carved wooden key from my pouch and inserting it into the primary groove beneath the seal.

Click.

Nothing unlocked. Instead, a harsh crimson light flared within the runes.

The entire lakebed shuddered.

“Oppa...” Angelica’s voice echoed urgently through our psychic link. “That wasn't a lock... it was a tripwire interface!”

From the surrounding dark trenches, dozens of glowing crimson eyes ignited. Sleek, shark-like creatures covered in blue chitinous scales emerged from the shadows—Glimmer-Hounds. Their jaws parted, revealing triple rows of razor-sharp teeth.

“They hunt in packs!” Angelica warned, her claws extending.

“We can't out-swim them in open water!”

My mind raced through our options. Creation Magic takes too long to cast underwater. Astral Magic will diffuse in the dense liquid.

I looked at Angelica. “Princess! Can you shrink using Mirror Projection?”

“Down to doll size!” she confirmed immediately.

“Do it now!”

A flash of emerald light consumed her towering frame, condensing her into a palm-sized figure in a tiny dress. I scooped her up in one hand, tucking her securely into my cloak pocket just as the lead Glimmer-Hound lunged, its jaws snapping shut on empty water.

Raising my free hand, I channeled my spatial domain.

Space fractured around us like shattered glass. A swirling vortex opened beneath my feet, swallowing us whole an instant before the pack swarmed the coordinates.

THUMP!

We slammed onto solid ground, sliding across cool, thick mud.

I groaned, pushing myself up as the aquatic scales and gills dissolved, returning my body to its normal state. “Note to self... refine spatial landing trajectories.”

Nearby, Angelica expanded back to her normal height, shaking wet soil from her hair. “...Oppa... I think my internal organs stayed in the lake.”

“I know the feeling,” I grunted, untying the vine rope.

As I stood up and wiped the mud from my coat, the surrounding silence struck me. There were no insect calls, no wind, no distant beast roars.

Before us stood a colossal tree. Its pale, silver-white trunk stretched hundreds of meters into the sky, its vast canopy dissolving into an endless black void overhead. Pale blue fireflies drifted around its roots, casting an eerie, pale glow over the misty swamp floor.

A system prompt materialized before us.

Angelica reached out, gripping my sleeve tightly. “...Oppa... where are we?”

I stared up at the ancient, silent tree, feeling the steady pulse of ancient magic radiating from its roots.

“I think,” I whispered, touching the Necklace of Alva beneath my tunic, “our hidden mission is just getting started.”

No wind, no birds, no voices—only an endless, golden brilliance engulfing the world.I instinctively raised my arm to shield my eyes. The power surging through my body was unlike anything I had ever felt. It wasn't merely mana; it was history. The first rays of dawn had yet to pierce the dense canopy of the Akhoi Rainforest. Cold mist drifted between the ancient trees as Angelica and I walked side by side, leaving the Lone Tree of Nothingness behind.Neither of us spoke for a long time. The revelations contained within Dryad Frosy’s diary still weighed heavily on the silent forest. The once-boastful princess walked with her head lowered, clutching the worn leather book tightly against her chest. Her usual theatrical arrogance had vanished, replaced by a quiet, reflective stillness.I glanced at her sideways. “...Still processing?”Angelica nodded slowly, her voice barely audible over the crunch of damp leaves beneath our boots. “I spent over two thousand years hating the wrong person, Oppa. I thought Frosy stole everything from me... but she gave up her own life to keep me safe.”“The strongest sacrifices are often the most misunderstood,” I said gently, keeping my eyes on the trail ahead. She managed a faint, melancholy sm

The swamp stood in absolute, unnatural silence. It wasn't the peaceful stillness before dawn, nor the ordinary hush of a resting forest. It felt suspended—as if the world itself had stopped breathing.I sat up in the thick emerald mud, wiping slime from my face with a weary sigh. “Note to self: spatial coordinates in swamp terrain need serious recalibration.”A muffled groan answered me from a few paces away. Angelica lay face-down in the mud, her long, pointed ears twitching erratically.“...Oppa...” she groaned, her voice trembling.“Still in one piece, Princess?”She slowly lifted her head, mud dripping from her chin. “...I am fairly certain my soul remained at the bottom of that lake.”I chuckled despite my exhaustion. “You’ll recover.”“I won’t!” She rolled onto her back dramatically, glaring up at the pitch-black sky. “My ethereal beauty... tarnished by mud!”“You’ve been in the mud for five seconds.”“Five seconds too many!” She pouted, her tail flicking through the muck. “Show

Angelica slowly rose to her feet, wiping the remaining tears from her cheeks. Although her monstrous frame remained unchanged, something in her expression had softened. The sharp, theatrical grin she usually wore had vanished, replaced by quiet reverence. She stood before the largest sarcophagus and placed both hands against its weathered lid. “This belonged to my grandmother,” she said softly. “Lady Alva... the strongest archmage our clan ever produced.” I stepped beside her, examining the intricate carvings decorating the tomb. Vines intertwined with stars, spiraling toward a central inlay where a single emerald gemstone was embedded.“It looks completely undisturbed,” I observed.“It should be.” Angelica nodded. “Only members of the royal bloodline could bypass the barrier into this inner crypt.” Silence settled over the chamber. I folded my arms, glancing at the multi-ton stone slab. “Think you can lift it?” Angelica raised an eyebrow, her lips curling into a proud smirk. “Opp
