Chapter 11: Future Diary
last update2025-02-03 01:36:41

She wrote down everything she could, but she overlooked the crucial prophecies due to her inability to discern their importance.

“Damn it!”

In truth, she had stumbled upon the information about this Crypt almost by accident. It was clear that Japan's seer wasn’t all-knowing.

Anyway, there should be good news since she is reading your future. Just keep doing what you've been doing. Safeguard the Mythic Items from the Korean until our research team arrives. -

Yuri had no choice but to temper his anger and end the call.

He couldn't board a plane with the Mythic Items he had acquired in Korea.

‘Those foolish Koreans won’t even realize if I take these items.’

Yet, his superiors insisted on extreme caution. They warned that if he got caught, the Koreans might demand an apology.

‘Hmph. They act like we plundered their cultural artifacts, so I wouldn’t be surprised.’

Yuri thought about how they complained over trivial relics Japan took during the colonial era. He expected a similar uproar over these Mythic Items that granted special powers. His superiors often had strange reasoning, and Yuri agreed with them.

The information he received indicated that a Korean had taken the gold Mace and silver Mace. Furthermore, this Korean seemed unusually knowledgeable about Crypts.

‘She mentioned a bastard who could threaten Japan?’

The Future Diary had cryptically warned:

A great danger looms that could engulf Japan, a rough but brilliant star rising in a neighboring nation.

Yuri repeated the words to himself, scoffing.

“A star? More like a fool!”

It was fine, though. If this person understood Crypts, he would surely appear at the next one.

“I’ll take him down and hand him over to Japan.”

Yuri laughed, completely unaware of the type of person Mason was.

Meanwhile...

“Hey Mason, what are you up to?”

“Research.”

Mason replied casually, but his roommate Danny, who was tidying up the mess in the house, couldn’t hide his surprise.

It was understandable.

‘.........First English, then Arabic... now French?’

Danny gaped as he watched Mason read news articles in five different languages on his laptop.

At first, Danny scoffed, thinking, ‘Why does he read like he understands it?’ He sat down next to Mason, ready to mock him. However, he quickly gave up after getting a headache from the English article.

Mason wasn't just browsing news; he was diving into foreign technical magazines and dissertations—material that would bore most people. He scrolled through it as if it were light gossip in Korean.

“Danny, I’ll be out a lot for a while. Don’t worry if I don’t reply.”

“Did you charm a rich lady with that handsome face of yours? Huh? Is she pretty?”

Mason just laughed, not responding. It would be nice if those Mythic Item bastards were beautiful women with long legs.

For now, he hoped no major issues would arise while he collected Mythic Items.

But.

‘Mister Depay is the problem.’

Not only was Mister Depay his bitter enemy, but he also posed the biggest threat to Mason’s rise. That man commanded one of the strongest factions among the monopolizers.

It would be easy to interfere with Mister Depay if Mason knew the identities of his Mythic Items. Unfortunately, he only had vague ideas about their abilities.

‘All monopolizers kept their Mythic Items a secret.’

These monopolizers, who gathered Mythic Items and their users, concealed the identities of their items.

It was obvious why they did this. Most monopolizers were Legendary-Grade (S-Grade) Mythic Item users. Many Legendary-Grade Mythic Items drew from famous mythologies, meaning their abilities and weaknesses were well-known.

‘It was around the time Mister Depay acquired his Mythic Item...’

He could have already obtained it or be close to getting it.

Figuring out Mister Depay's current situation would be beneficial, but Mason had no way to approach him. What common ground could an intern at a small business have with the CEO of a global corporation?

Suddenly, Mason’s eyes widened as an idea struck him.

‘Wait, there’s a way!’

There was a method to uncover Mister Depay’s situation.

‘You son of a bitch. I won’t fall victim to you again.’

Mason immediately dialed a number on his phone.

“Riley, get over here. "

Riley let out a deep sigh. He worked for Juliana and Vizas, the art broker siblings. After Mason confronted them about the Buddha statue, Riley ended up bruised and humiliated. Now, with Juliana and Vizas arrested for smuggling and drug dealing, he felt lost.

“How are your injuries? Should we do something about that jerk?” one of his juniors asked.

“Yeah! We need revenge for Miss Juliana and Boss Vizas!” another added.

Riley clicked his tongue. He knew he had to act or risk losing face.

‘What was Mason Monroe’s deal?’

“Should we hire someone to deal with him?” a junior suggested.

“Sounds like something Boss Vizas would say!” they laughed, plotting their revenge against Mason.

Suddenly, a phone rang.

“Who the hell is calling now?” Riley groaned.

His heart sank when he saw the caller ID.

-Underling Mason Monroe-

“Ah!” Riley nearly dropped his phone. He wanted revenge, but fear took hold.

“What’s wrong, Boss?” his juniors asked, noticing his cold sweat.

“Who’s calling you?” they pressed, seeing his pale expression.

“F-fuck! Why is he calling? Did he get the wrong number?” They joked, but their eyes betrayed their fear. It was different when Mason reached out first.

“Are you going to pick up?” one asked.

“Damn it, I don’t know! Should I tell him to come here?” Riley stammered.

“Just answer!” they urged.

Reluctantly, he connected the call on speaker. “H-hello?”

The voice on the other end dripped with menace.

-What the hell took you so long to pick up?-

Riley’s group shivered at Mason's tone.

‘What does he mean “so long”? It’s been less than thirty seconds!’

Riley shouted to mask his fear. “You think you can send Boss Vizas and Miss Juliana to prison and just walk away?”

-Ah, enough. You’re still in business, right?-

Riley clenched his jaw. How could Mason ask that?

“Are you serious? You put Boss Vizas and Miss Juliana behind bars and ask if we’re still in business?!”

“They took all our artwork because of you!” they shouted in unison.

Mason brushed off their complaints.

-I don’t care about that. You didn’t file for closure because your representative got arrested, right?-

“What? Why do you care?” Riley snapped.

-I’ll give you five seconds. Tell me now.-

“Damn it! We haven’t closed, but what do you want from us?” Riley shot back.

They heard Mason laugh.

-Good. You still qualify for the World Auction.-

Mason’s words floated in the air like an implied threat. “I’m still working on that.” The battlefield was quiet, dust settling around them, but the weight of his presence had not diminished. If anything, it had gotten worse. Eyes stared from all sides—Emperors, Ascended, warriors who had been both his allies and adversaries. But it was Scarlett’s look he felt the most. He could feel her muted question below their tension. What are you now, Mason? Mason breathed out, willing his hands to uncurl. The void was still there, simmering under his skin, waiting. It was no longer controlling him, but it hadn’t disappeared, either. And that was the problem. Mason wasn’t certain whether he was still breathing. He didn’t know if he had a body anymore. He had been devoured by it, the void, it had taken all of it, every sense, every thought, every feeling, and left him, suspended in the void, floating along, somewhere between things. But somewhere in the quiet, a voice had murmured. You were never supposed to be anywhere else.It was not the voice of the hooded man. It wasn’t the throne turning its insidious whisper. It was something older. Something vast. But he had no ground beneath him, no air to push against — just infinite, stretching black. Then, a flicker of light. At first it is faint, like a dying ember. Then it propagagated, spreading through the emptiness like fractals in a fragile shell. Vague shapes started to emerge—figures from the past whose edges he couldn’t define. Mason peered from the edge of the battlefield, breath coming in sharp pants, heart drumming an unsteady tattoo against his ribs. The silence following the Ascended’s judgment was stifling. The Emperors were sprawled on the broken earth, their screams still ringing in his ears. Their authority was stripped, their reign dismantled. And yet, it didn’t feel right.Scarlett moved closer, voice dropped. “Mason, this isn’t over.”He looked over at her, his expression inscrutable. “I know.”The Ascended had given him a choice, but it was a weight that settled on him like a vice. The voice was unmistakable — frigid, familiar, steeped in malice.A figure scaled an object, in the darkness beyond the ruinous battlefield. Not an Emper
