The previous day, Lirael had sent her driver Xaiden to take Eldric back to the villa, and the two had become well-acquainted by now.

Unlike Nechemya, who seemed to harbor nothing but contempt for Eldric, Xaiden treated him with easy camaraderie.

On the way there, Xaiden received Lirael's call instructing him to first take Eldric back to the Logan Family estate. Once Eldric finished his business, he was to bring him to meet her.

He wouldn't dare disobey Ms. Veyra's orders, so he steered the luxury car toward the Logan residence.

As the Maybach pulled up to the wrought-iron gates, a familiar ache twisted in Eldric's gut at the sight of the mansion rising like a specter from his past.

This place had been his gilded cage ever since he'd married into the Logan Family—years of living hell that had nearly broken him.

Bitter memories flooded his mind. He never wanted to see this damned place again.

After today's divorce signing, the Logans would likely bar him from returning. Finally. An end to this misery.

Eldric was about to enter when another vehicle purred to a halt at the estate's entrance.

The tinted window slid down, revealing the two people he least wanted to see—Naviya and Demontae, lounging in the latter's million-dollar sports car.

Though expensive, Demontae's ride looked downright pedestrian compared to Lirael's Mercedes-Benz Maybach parked beside Eldric.

Their eyes locked onto the luxury vehicle, suspicion flashing across their faces.

"What shady shit has this loser pulled now?" Demontae muttered. "Where'd he get that car?"

The idea of Eldric owning a Maybach was laughable. If he'd had that kind of money, Naviya wouldn't be divorcing him.

Seizing the opportunity to humiliate Eldric, Demontae swaggered out of the car with Naviya in tow.

"Well if it isn't the pathetic excuse for a husband," Demontae sneered. "Rented or stolen? What's your game here? Think flashing a fancy car will make Naviya reconsider?"

Naviya's voice cut through the air, each word a razorblade wrapped in silk. "Eldric, I've been clear—there was never any love between us. After we sign those papers, we're strangers. The Logans want nothing to do with you. Show your face here again, and you'll regret it."

White-hot rage ignited in Eldric's veins. These backstabbing vipers—he'd never hated anyone more.

Rage scorched through Eldric's veins as he sneered, "Naviya, you're delusional. I must've been blind to ever marry into your wretched family. You think I want anything to do with you Logans? After signing those papers, you couldn't pay me to return—not even with an eight-carriage procession!" He turned to Demontae with a venomous grin. "And you—what kind of fool chases after castoff lovers? Treating my discarded trash like treasure. How pathetic!"

His words struck like serpent's fangs. Naviya's face twisted, spittle flying as she shrieked, "You ungrateful leech! After years eating our food, living under our roof!"

Demontae's face darkened like a storm-blackened sky. "You're dead, Thorne!" he roared, lunging like a rabid beast with fist raised.

But the weakling they knew was gone. Now a cultivator at Qi Refining Level 1, Eldric's transformation was complete. Little did they know—against the Martial Dao, mere muscle meant nothing.

The punch never landed. Instead, Eldric's devastating roundhouse kick—WHAM!—sent Demontae flying. The brute crumpled, clutching his gut with agonized howls.

"Demontae! Speak to me!" Naviya doted on him before whirling on Eldric. "You'll pay for this! The Connors will grind you to dust!"

Eldric let out a mirthless chuckle. "Where was this outrage yesterday when he nearly killed me? Your hypocrisy stinks."

"You're nothing compared to him! The Connors—"

"If I feared them," Eldric said with icy calm, "I wouldn't have kicked him." Power coursed through his meridians. Let them come. Each breath strengthened his cultivation. Soon, toppling the Connors would be a walk in the park.

After unlocking his father's legacy and breaking through as a cultivator, Eldric was bursting with confidence. He knew his life was about to change big time. No more crawling in the dirt or eating humble pie—he was done being a doormat.

"Cut the crap. Where's the divorce papers? Let's get this over with so I can bounce."

Those two-faced snakes Naviya and Demontae made his blood boil. Now that he'd paid Demontae back in full, Eldric just wanted to sign the damn papers and get the fuck out of Dodge.

Lirael was waiting, and he wasn't about to waste another second on these losers.

Naviya's jaw nearly hit the pavement as she stared. There was a new fire in his eyes... something dangerous. Like a complete stranger. The way he'd sent Demontae flying with a single kick—wham!—the spineless worm she married would've wet himself at the thought.
