Carina stood perfectly tall under the glowing crystal chandelier. She did not feel intimidated by Caroline at all. She already knew the absolute truth about Darius and his immense hidden power over the Segreto Corporation. She looked at Caroline with complete pity.

"You are the real joke here." Carina laughed gracefully while adjusting her stunning red dress. "You are completely blind to the actual truth of this entire world."

Caroline glared with sheer freezing ice in her dark eyes. She felt a surge of absolute venomous hatred toward this rival.

"Are you trying to mock me?" Caroline pointed her sharp fingernail at Carina. "You are nothing but a bankrupt loser. You are standing next to a useless piece of street dirt. My Marcus is a true king. You are just a pathetic failure clinging to my rejected garbage."

"You will regret those stupid words." Carina smiled with pure absolute confidence.

"Let us make a little bet right now." Caroline stepped closer with a deeply wicked smirk. "Whoever cannot pass through that inner security gate tonight must kneel down right here on the dirty floor. The loser must loudly admit their pathetic mistake to the winner in front of everyone."

"I accept your bet completely." Carina tilted her chin up proudly. She knew Darius owned this entire massive building.

"You are going to humiliate yourself." Marcus wrapped his arm tightly around Caroline. "My beautiful queen always wins against pathetic useless trash."

"You are so brilliant and perfect Marcus." Caroline looked at him with incredible sweetness and soft warmth. "You are always my absolute first priority. Let us go show these disgusting losers how real royalty enters a grand room."

Caroline and Marcus walked arrogantly toward the massive velvet ropes. Two large security guards stood firmly at the entrance holding heavy digital tablets. Caroline reached into her expensive designer purse. She pulled out a thick golden invitation card adorned with beautiful elegant ribbons.

"Good evening Madam." The tall guard scanned the golden card quickly. "Your name is perfectly verified on the VIP list. Please enjoy the grand commercial dinner party tonight."

Caroline walked past the heavy velvet rope with her head held extremely high. She turned around to look back at Carina and Darius. Her beautiful face twisted into a mask of pure cold arrogance.

"It is your turn now." Caroline crossed her slender arms over her chest. "Let us see your fake invitation you pathetic bankrupt loser. Prepare to scrub the dirty floor with your cheap knees."

Carina walked forward with a bright and victorious smile. She reached into her small silver clutch bag. She pulled out a sleek black invitation card with silver lettering. She handed it to the tall security guard with supreme absolute confidence. She waited for the guard to bow respectfully.

The tall guard scanned the black card with his digital tablet. A loud red error screen flashed brightly on the device. The guard frowned deeply and scanned the sleek card a second time. The red error screen flashed brightly again.

"I am very sorry." The tall guard handed the black card back to Carina. "Your name is definitely not on the guest list tonight. I absolutely cannot let you inside the grand hall."

Carina froze completely in her elegant high heels. Her bright victorious smile vanished in one single terrifying second. Cold sweat formed quickly on the back of her neck. Her heart hammered wildly in pure deep panic.

"There must be some huge mistake." Carina gripped the black card with trembling fingers. "Please check the digital system one more time. I was personally invited just a few hours ago."

"I checked the system twice." The tall security guard crossed his large muscular arms. "You are absolutely not on the authorized list. Please step away from the velvet ropes immediately."

Caroline erupted into loud and incredibly cruel laughter from the other side of the rope. Her dark eyes sparkled with immense malicious joy.

"I knew you were a complete fraud!" Caroline pointed at Carina with absolute sheer delight. "You are just a pathetic desperate loser! You forged a fake invitation to sneak into a high class event! You are incredibly embarrassing and totally disgusting!"

Carina stared at the digital tablet in absolute total shock. She did not understand what was happening at all. She looked back at Darius with wide terrified eyes.

"Get on your knees right now!" Caroline stomped her expensive heel on the polished marble floor. "You lost the bet completely! Kneel down like the cheap dirty beggar you are and admit your massive pathetic mistake!"

His eyes moved from her face to her borrowed diamond necklace to her credit card heels and back up again with an expression of pure, undiluted indifference."I have never heard the name Marcus in my life," Derek spoke flatly, tucking one hand into his pocket. "And the only Mrs. expected tonight is someone entirely different. Someone who, I can assure you, would not be found standing in a parking lot arguing with security guards."Caroline's polished smile cracked right down the center."Now if you'll both excuse me," Derek turned away from them with the casual dismissal of a man brushing crumbs off his sleeve. "I have actual guests to attend to."Marcus opened his mouth, some desperate combination of syllables forming on his swollen lips, but before a single sound could escap

The cold had sunk into Caroline's bones like poison. She shifted her weight from one aching heel to the other, arms wrapped around herself, teeth clenched against the freezing night air that had been gnawing at her exposed shoulders for the better part of an hour."How long has it been," she muttered through tight lips, staring at the glowing entrance of the Grand Meridian in the distance.Marcus checked his phone with stiff, trembling fingers. "Fifty three minutes.""Fifty three minutes," Caroline repeated, her voice hollow. "Standing in a parking lot. In the dark. Like animals."They watched in bitter silence as yet another luxury sedan pulled up to the red carpet. A couple in evening wear stepped out, laughed at something the doorman whispered, and strolled straight through the gilded entrance without so much as a glance from the security team."That's the sixth car," Marcus pressed the napkin harder against his swollen lip, the dried blood cracking at the edges. "Six cars. Every s

From every corner of the entrance, from behind the pillars, from inside the lobby doors, a dozen more security staff materialized like shadows given form. They moved in tight, practiced formation, surrounding Caroline and Marcus in a circle of black suits and earpieces and cold, expressionless faces. Each one had a hand pressed to their earpiece, fingers poised, ready for the next command.Caroline's fury evaporated like steam off hot pavement. Her pointing finger slowly lowered to her side. Her open mouth closed. Her shoulders, which had been squared with righteous anger a moment ago, curved inward as the reality of being surrounded by twelve large men with no sense of humor pressed down on her like a physical weight. She said nothing. For the first time in as long as Marcus had known her, Caroline said absolutely nothing."Move your vehicle," the head guard spoke with clipped authority, jerking his chin toward the parking lot. "Clear this entrance immediately. The real VIP will be a

The gilded doors swung open and the head guard stepped back out onto the red carpet. His face was blank, his hands clasped behind his back, his posture carrying the rigid discipline of a man who had just received very specific instructions from people far above his pay grade.Marcus pounced before the guard's second foot hit the carpet."There he is," Marcus spread his arms wide with the magnanimous smile of a king greeting a peasant who had finally learned his place. "I trust you've spoken with your supervisor and realized the enormous mistake you've made tonight. Now, I'm a reasonable man. I understand that low level employees sometimes fail to recognize important people. It happens."He paused, letting the words hang in the air like a gift he was generously offering."So here's what we're going to do," Marcus clasped his hands behind his back, mimicking the guard's posture with theatrical authority. "You're going to kneel right here on this carpet, in front of your colleagues, and

The Grand Meridian Hotel looked like it had been dressed for the arrival of a god. A hundred feet of deep crimson carpet stretched from the gilded entrance doors all the way to the street, flanked on both sides by uniformed staff standing shoulder to shoulder in perfect military formation. Enormous golden banners hung from the building's facade, each one embroidered with the same words in letters tall enough to read from three blocks away.Welcome Supreme Master. The rented black Mercedes pulled up to the curb and Caroline pressed her face against the tinted window, her freshly applied lipstick nearly smudging against the glass. Her eyes went wide, then wider, then so wide the whites showed all around her irises."Marcus," she breathed, grabbing his arm with both hands. "Look at this. Look at what they've done. This is incredible. This is beyond anything I imagined."Marcus leaned across her to peer through the window and his jaw dropped open. The red carpet. The golden banners. The r

"I know," Darius cut her off gently. "Let them in anyway. No resistance at the door. No questions from security. Let them walk through the front entrance believing they are honored guests. Give them a table. Give them champagne. Let them feel comfortable."A pause on the other end. "You want them comfortable," Elena repeated slowly, the pieces clicking into place behind her words."Comfortable people don't guard their expressions," Darius watched a plane cross the distant sky, its lights blinking red and white against the darkness. "Comfortable people show the whole room exactly who they really are.""Understood," Elena's voice tightened with focus. "What's second?""The evidence package on Lorenzo's criminal enterprise. The forged import documents, the shell companies, the customs bribes, the money laundering records. I want every piece of it compiled, verified, and formatted for presentation.
