No Longer A Nobody

Chapter 9

The few days after his return to the Rocks family mansion, Richard worked twice as hard than he had ever worked for the Rocks family but that didn't prevent him from monitoring the happenings around the house. 

Alexia had gone to the Zikkers' Clan consortium but wasn't even allowed past the main gate. She had been feeling stupid to have accepted the challenge. It wasn't like a choice was given to her though..

He had gone to see her the evening of her return after an unsuccessful attempt and she was dispirited. 

Novan had urged and encouraged her to try again the next day but this time around, he was going to work things out.

The security guards opened the gate ajar as it was time for Alexia to go to the Zikkers' Clan consortium. Her face displayed anxiety and her body posture portrayed defeat. She was worried and downcast.

'What effect will this have on her and her husband? They will be the object of ridicule once again. ' she thought as she stepped into the car awaiting her.

A few minutes after the car disappeared in sight, Novan pulled out his phone and dialled William's number.

Immediately, he was greeted with a "Good morning sir." 

"Williams, my wife is coming to the consortium now. I want her to attend like a VIP. Do I need to say more?" Novan went straight to the point.

"I totally understand sir, do not worry." Williams answered and the line got disconnected

It was dinner time and the Rocks family gathered to hear the humiliating news from Alexia and also mock her and her husband. 

Novan had already received a report from Williams concerning the success of the contract with the Rocks Building and engineering company so Novan couldn't wait to witness the shock the news will bring them.

Grandma Rocks remained silent while Charlie and Lilian continued to tease Alexia 

"Come on sis, you don't have to be so quiet about it, we all know you couldn't get that deal." Lillian said while looking at Alexia cheerfully 

"Oh come on now, tell us you were humiliated at the gate and chased out because I'm quite sure that you were not able to step foot inside the main building of the consortium. " Charlie sneered 

"Don't act tough now, we want to know everything that happened and how they chased you out." Charlie mocked 

Novan searched for her hand under the tablecloth and she immediately interlocked her hands with his and they rubbed each other slowly. 

"I want to finish my dinner first before giving out the results of my meeting today." Alexia started and dug into her food and so did Novan. 

The callous duo had no option than to also dig into their food and they all ate in silence.

After dinner, Grandma Rocks looked anxiously at Alexia. This was her one ticket to preserve her husband's legacy. 

He worked tirelessly to build the company before his death and she was sure that he would cry bitterly if he were alive to see what had become of the company now. 

She had to do everything within her power to keep the company afloat. 

Alexia didn't say a word and just handed Grandma Rocks a document that she had kept on her lap throughout dinner.

Grandma Rocks opened the document with vigour and for the first time ever, Grandma Rocks seemed vulnerable. 

She shut her eyes for some seconds before finally reading through the documents. 

"What!! We got the contract? We got the contract!! The consortium's seal is on it, we have a deal!!!" Grandma Rocks jumped and jumped. 

"What?" Lillian asked with her mouth ajar.

"That's not possible." Charlie added with a confused face.

What was going on? Alexia wasn't supposed to get the contract. How did she even get into the consortium in the first place?

Even Richard Wane, who was a manager in one of the big companies under the consortium, dared not to enter without an appointment. 

So how did this nobody get past the gate and even signed a contract!? 

Their minds ran wild 

Does she know someone influential enough to let her through the gate?

She's just a jobless granddaughter who had only good looks, she doesn't go out that much either. 

What's going on!??

Their faces flushed in shock and disbelief. They wanted to go mad.

Wait, that means that their company now belongs to Her!. This good for nothing housewife?

"Hhh" Lilian looked at Alexia with incredulity as words were unable to come out of her mouth. 

"Grandma, are you sure it's legit?" Charlie asked with a cracked voice.

"Shut it you lazy fool. This is a seal of the consortium. I've heard of it but I've never seen it before. You have made me proud Alexia. " Grandma Rocks said happily

"Hahaha, who is laughing now chap?" Novan asked cheerfully. 

"What about your offer?" Alexia asked frankly.

"Meet me in my chambers tomorrow to sign the papers. I'll go through this tonight. Goodnight children!" Grandma Rocks left the dining room to her room gleefully. 

If Alexia was able to sign the contract then she was indeed fit to be their CEO. 

Alexia hugged Novan in excitement and Novan felt his heart melt.

This was the first time he felt his wife's body. Her soft breasts pressed on his masculine chest and her fragrance filled his nostrils. 

The tight hug caused her night gown to expose her cleavage and sent thrilling thoughts his way.

He didn't want to let go but he didn't want to freak her out. Left for him, he didn't mind being there the whole night caressing her gently.

That night was going to be a long one as his head was filled with thoughts of how he was finally going to have her.

To his dismay, they didn't sleep together that night. He had to sleep in the security room. He almost forgot that he was still the poor live-in-son-in-law to the Rocks family. 

Novan had a splendid night as he reminisced about today's happenings. 

The deep hug he got from his wife after a year of getting married, the Rocks building and engineering company that now belonged to his wife.
