"If you dare take a step, we would have no choice but to blow your head up. So, you'd better cooperate and come with us, peacefully and calmly," one of the men warned, still pointing a gun towards Nathan.

Nathan's body trembles in fear, he doesn't know what to do next. He then decided to do as the had instructed, he raised his hands in surrender and silently climbed into the waiting SUV van with the men, and so the car rode away with Nathan on it.

Inside the SUV, the atmosphere was tense, the men glaring murderous eyes from the mask was so horrifying. The men remained silent, locking their eyes on Nathan, their weapons still drawn and pressed tightly against their chests.

"Please... who are you guys?" Nathan asked cautiously, his lips trembling in fear.

One of the men answered Nathan with violence instead of words, using the butt of his gun and slammed it onto Nathan’s head. A sharp pain exploded through Nathan's skull, and almost instantly, he felt warm blood trickling down into his eyes, and almost immediately, Everything became blurry to Nathan's eyes. Dizzy and weak, he gradually lost consciousness.

“--”

Hours later, Nathan woke to the shock of cold water splashing against his body. He took a sharp breath into his lungs, blinking through the haze as his eyes fluttered open.

“Ahhhh….” Nathan Breathe heavily.

His hands were bound tightly to something that seemed unclear to him, restraining his entire body movement, and as he looked around, he realized he was in a dim, unfamiliar room, tied to a chair.

“Where… where.. the hell am I?” Nathan mumbled groggily.

And just then as Nathan was still in his confused state, trying to understand what was going on, a sneering voice answered from the shadows. “You’re in a place where your death won’t matter to anybody.”

Nathan jerked his head toward the voice, straining to see who had spoken. Though the voice was faint, and something about the tone felt eerily familiar.

From the shadows stepped forward a figure—then the dim light from the bulb hanging across the ceiling revealed her face. And to Nathan's greatest shock, It was Laura, His wife, or perhaps his ex wife.

“Laura…” Nathan mumbled under his breath, confusion striking his thoughts. This time, he didn’t call her ma’am. There was no more pretense. Her betrayal was undeniable.

“Oh? Surprised?” Laura scoffed then laughed tauntingly, stepping closer to Nathan.

“I know what you’re thinking,” she added with a smirk. “Why am I here? Well…” she then laughed bitterly, then she continued coldly, “I’m here to kill you.”

Nathan’s brow furrowed in disbelief, it was hard for him to grasp her last words.

“Kill me?” Nathan mumbled below his voice. “But Why?” he added.

Laura rolled her eyes, playing with her nails, then she answered. “Since you’re going to die anyway, I might as well tell you everything about your miserable life. My family—the Sinclair family—was behind every misfortune you’ve ever faced, from your family’s downfall, to the loss of your memory. It was all plotted by us, and you foolishly danced to its tone from the beginning to the very end.”

Nathan stared, stunned. Not because it was all so unbelievable, but because he couldn’t remember anything about planning the downfall of his family.

“I… I don’t remember any of that,” Nathan muttered, glancing around, lost and confused.

“Exactly,” Laura replied coldly. “That was the whole point here. Well, I married you to transfer the last of your father's wealth to my family by using your finger print to unlock a box that contains the rightful document to the entire properties, the reason why I hadn't killed you long ago was because the mechanical customized box failed to recognise your tomb print but with time it worked,” Laura then laughed before continuing, “why do you think I always cover your eyes and placed your fingers on a specific device, it was indeed the box, I wasn't ready to risk you getting back your Memories, and now that the box is unlocked, and we’ve gotten what we wanted from you, you’re useless to us.”

Laura then gave another cruel, taunting laugh as she finished explaining.

“And secondly, I was the one who set you up on the company missing funds. I just wanted to get you disposed of in a proper way that won't lead back to me,” Laura added.

Years ago, Laura’s father, Leonard, had been a close business partner of Nathan’s father, Thomas, who is the real owner of the Sinclair enterprise and the entire wealth that follows it. At the time, Nathan was just sixteen years old—a prodigy in the business world. But Leonard betrayed Thomas. He orchestrated a scheme so vile it shattered the Sinclair bloodline.

Leonard set Thomas’s mansion on fire and shot both Thomas and his wife in an attempt to erase them and their legacy, leaving their bodies to burn in the flames.

But before everything happened from the fire to the gun shot that killed both Thomas and his wife, Thomas managed to entrusting Nathan to Henry, his personal Butler, to flee with him, to safety. So they got into the car and rode away, nearly unnoticed.

Leonard, suspicious of Thomas’s saving his son Nathan on time, to flee out of the mansion before it caught fire, got him angry and in order to clear off any evidence, Leonard sent one of his personal assassins, Rowan Scar, to track and kill both of them.

Rowan caught up to the escaping car, but it veered off a cliff and plunged into the sea. Believing them dead, Rowan called off the pursuit.

Miraculously, Nathan survived—but he fell into a six-year coma. When he awoke, his face was so disfigured that no one could recognize him as the heir to the Sinclair empire, which Leonard now claimed as his own.

Later after years, Leonard learned that Nathan—Thomas's son—had also survived and recently awoken from a coma, with no memories of his past. Seeing opportunity, Leonard kept him alive. He needed something more.

A specific tech box—designed by Thomas—contained a multibillion-dollar innovation. It could only be unlocked by Thomas’s or Nathan’s DNA.

Nathan, now unrecognizable and unaware of who he was, became the perfect pawn. Leonard sent Laura to seduce and marry him, in order to gain access to the box.

But when they tried using Nathan’s fingerprint multiple times, it ended up not working, and at some point, Leonard thought it was all a rumor that Thomas' son, Nathan, survived, because if it was truly Thomas' son, the box would have unlocked without stress.

Leonard deemed Nathan a failure. But Laura begged for another chance, stating that she could keep him and keep trying, and as well, Laura was trying to win her father's trust.

Eventually, her plan worked. The box opened. They now had access to all of Thomas’s assets—every last document, every company share. The Sinclair empire was theirs.

Now that they had everything, Leonard ordered Laura to kill Nathan and erase any remaining evidence that could link them to the crimes.

“Now that we completely own the Sinclair assets,” Laura said, settling into a chair and crossing her legs, “it’s time for you to die.”

Nathan’s eyes widened. “I don’t even understand half of what you’re saying,” he protested, shaking his head. “I can’t remember anything. None of this makes any sense.”

Laura sighed, almost bored. “What’s the point of explaining anything to you? Maybe you’ll remember it all in the afterlife.”

She then pulled out a gun and aimed it at Nathan's head.

“I don’t have a choice,” Laura muttered. “If there were another way to save you, I’d take it… but fate’s already made its decision.”

Just then, flashes of memory began to stir inside Nathan’s mind, as he remembered the moment Laura would always calmly escort him to a room with his face covered, and then place his finger to a scanner, and press it.

“Could that be part of what she’s talking about?” Nathan murmured to himself, straining to piece it together.

Suddenly—

Bang. Bang. Bang.

The gunshot echoed through the room.

Nathan felt a sharp pain in different parts of his body. His chest burned. He looked down.

Blood. His hands were soaked in it.

Everything slowed, like time had been delayed.

And just then, a blue translucent screen flickered into view before his eyes floating in mid air. A digital prompt blinked across the screen, and a mechanical voice echoed in his mind:

"Host activated. system is live."

And just then Nathan's eyes gradually closed and so darkness overtook him.

She was a nurse—the one assigned to Nathan’s care, and it seems Nathan was in the hospital for days.“What happened? Where am I?” Nathan asked aloud, attempting to sit up on the hospital bed, but the nurse gently pushed him back to the bed. “Wow.. you have to stay calm and relaxed, you might get your injuries open if you struggle hard,” the nurse gently urged. “I had concluded you wouldn’t survive, because the injuries from your chest were so deep and the one you sustained on your head was unbelievable,” the nurse replied, still not
