Chapter 4

River forced himself to stand, taking a deep, shuddering breath to compose his executive demeanor. He smoothed his suit and put a forced, cold smile on his face.

River: "Nothing, Ice. Have a healthy lunch."

River walked away quickly, leaving Ice kneeling alone on the pavement, feeling a profound sense of isolation and mystery. Ice returned to his car, his focus shattered. He knew that River's distress was real, and whatever secret he was holding felt critical.

That night, at 9 PM, River sat in his expensive condo, his face red and slick with frustration. He immediately started a group videocall with his friends through the eMessaging app (My own Meta Messenger), full of angst over Zander/Ice’s worsening amnesia.

Merk, Onyx, Teggo, and Ellvys started answering the call from their various different locations.

Onyx: "I did my part. What's up, River?"

Merk: "Guys, I'm on a date. She's petite, smart~"

River: "Really Merk? Petite? Smart? Then Zander can't remember again!!!"

Ellvys: "Holy... Are Berna and Fred reliable? I mean, are they checking Zander's meds as his acting parents?"

River: "I don't know. You want me to go there? You want me to get caught?"

Teggo: "Burner phone."

River: "So you want me collect burner phones? Besides, I wasn't~"

Teggo: "Hey, hey, hey... Stop River, I'm joking!"

River: "Guys? Any SOLID PLANS? C'mon, we have two weeks."

A wave of profound melancholy fell over the five men. They realized the massive weight of their secret: their brilliant (and slightly ruthless) friend Zander might not be able to claim his birthright because the trauma of the accident was stealing his mind piece by piece.

Teggo, at his lowest tone: "I really admire Zander, man. He's so better competitor than Sable."

Ellvys: "Right. Hundred percent."

Onyx: "Maybe, I jog his brain when I helped Ice the last time we~"

River: "Ok, Onyx. You did what you need to do."

Merk: "Man, I can't imagine Zander that every time he wakes up... he could possibly... forget~"

Teggo: "Ok men... guys, let's observe Zander. Ok? Especially you, River. Keep us updated."

Onyx, Ellvys, Teggo, and Merk: "Thanks for the update, man."

River, slightly calmer now: "Always. I really owe Zander for having this place in their business."

Teggo: "No man, you and Zander and best in Real Estate, man. You have it, because you earned it too."

Onyx: "Even if we don't know the whole story, Zander really admires your dedication that's why you're a Top Property Specialist now."

Ellvys: "Forget what happened earlier, man. If Zander can't remember fully, we're always on the move. Okay?"

River: "Okay, man. Good morning, every one."

Merk: "See, your spirit is always in SALES!!! ALWAYS GOOD MORNING!!!"

All of them laughed, the stress momentarily lifted by their shared camaraderie. River wrapped up the call: "Hey Merk, petite and smart women are dangerous, man. Let's focus on helping Ice... Zander, first. Ok?"

All laughed and waved to each other, ending the videocall. River sat back on his bed,

the adrenaline leaving him. He looked at the ceiling and asked himself,

How can we help Zander, more?

then put the groupchat in the archive.

Sable is a man unraveling. The subtle, anonymous leaks about his finances, the ones Ice initiated using the burner phone had hit the Morte Board of Directors like a tremor.

In his opulent office, Sable was shouting at his assistant, demanding to know the source of the leaks. His hands shook as he paced the floor. He looked physically ill, his carefully tailored suit appearing rumpled. He didn't know the source of his misery was cleaning the dirt off his expensive car downstairs.

Sable called River into his office. "River! That Janowski deal collapsed. The board is questioning the liquidity. Did you check that accounting report? The one Ellvys Fog prepared? I don't trust that guy."

River stood perfectly still, maintaining his professional composure. "Sir, Ellvys Fog is meticulous. The report is sound. Perhaps the market reacted to the news of the Morte Tower sale?" River pushed the blame onto the announced sale, knowing it was a truth Sable couldn't deny.

"It's incompetence!" Sable shrieked. "Get me the latest demolition report on the Tower site. I need to make the sale look like a clean, immediate cash-out. Get the damn driver to bring me the hard copy now!"

River, relieved the spotlight wasn't on him, nodded. He walked out, his mind spinning. Sable was desperate. This is the moment for Teggo Steel's evidence.

River headed straight for the parking garage. He found Ice polishing the wheels of a Maserati. River approached slowly, checking to ensure Onyx who was strategically positioned nearby observing.

River: (Whispering urgently) "The demolition report. Sable wants the physical copy. It's the moment for Teggo's evidence. You have to swap it before you deliver it."

Ice, calm despite the urgency, simply nodded. "Where is it?"

River: "In the storage room. The one with the green seal. Go now." River patted Ice's shoulder, a gesture of affection disguised as a command.

Ice immediately dropped his cloth and moved toward the storage room, the memory of the "M" key and the archive door now vivid in his mind.

Ice successfully swapped the fraudulent demolition report with the real one, which detailed Sable's illegal cutting of support beams. The evidence provided by Teggo.

Minutes later, Ice was driving Sable Morte to a dinner meeting with the potential buyer of the Morte Tower. Merk, disguised as a new administrative assistant, was in the passenger seat, taking notes.

Sable, confident he had squashed the leaks, began to boast, using the time in the car to rehearse his lies for the meeting.

Sable leaned forward, addressing Ice's reflection in the rearview mirror. "Listen closely, driver. This is how you close a nine-figure deal. I tell them the building is an unnecessary luxury. That it's a weak asset. And my cousin Zander? He would have sold it years ago. He was a fool."

Merk’s pencil paused on his notepad.

Sable continued, his voice dripping with arrogance. "In fact, I'm doing the Morte legacy a favor. Zander was weak. He was soft. A man who gets himself killed in a car wreck is a man who can't handle the empire."

The cold, controlled atmosphere of Sable’s executive office settled over the room as he returned from lunch, alone. It was 1 PM. Sable settled heavily into his desk chair just as River walked in, carrying a slim folder of finalized sales documents. Sable looked up, his face registering annoyance rather than welcome. He immediately launched into the attack, tying his suspicion of one employee to the presence of the other. Sable: "Are you going to resign?" River’s eyes widened slightly in genuine surprise and alarm. The question hit too close to his actual recent plan. He stammered, scrambling to re-engage his professional armor. Sable: "Sit, please." River: "I don't want to... uhm... why are you asking me?" Sable: "Merk talked to me earlier today." Sable leaned back, watching River with intense scrutiny. "He was promoted. Now your manager. You weren't in the meeting. You know this, right?" River: "Yes, Boss. He called me. Congratulations to him." River forced a thin, professiona

Mrs. Cassandra Morte: "No need, you're a Top Property Specialist. You're saying 'cheapest' because we're close." They both laughed, the sound genuine and loud, enjoying the private camaraderie. Mrs. Cassandra Morte: "You know, I really hate how Sable works. No business etiquette." River: "Zander is the best. Some days, we were... Sable and me in a one-on-one coaching but it was very different. It feels like, I was the one who introduce 'Sales 101' to Sable." They laughed again, a mutual acknowledgment of Sable's incompetence. Suddenly, Cassandra reached out and gently rubbed River’s back, her touch startlingly maternal. "How long Zander is missing? Two weeks?" River instantly closed his eyes, his entire body tensing in a silent panic. No Madame, Zander is Ice, the truth wanted to burst out, risking everything. Instead, River inhaled slowly, opened his eyes, and gently rubbed Madame Morte's back in return, mirroring her gesture, using the exact, pre-approved lie. "It's just days,

Mrs. Cassandra Morte looked back at him once, holding the door open, her eyes sharp as ice. "Oops, a great man always keeps his promise. Always remember that." The door closed, leaving Sable alone in the silence, trembling not from fear of Zander, but from fear of the Mother of the Morte clan. At 7 PM, the air in the vintage restaurant in Jack County, USA, was charged with volatility. Merk and River had messaged Teggo and Onyx to meet again. When Teggo arrived, he immediately sat beside River, placing a heavy, brotherly grip on his shoulder, trying to diffuse the tension from the day before. "Hi Princess River, how was your sales this month?" Teggo asked, the sarcasm laced with genuine concern for his stressed friend. Onyx sat beside River, silent and watchful. A few chuckles from them, but River didn't join in. They all acknowledged that the joviality was thin. River and Merk had something serious to announce. Onyx: "What now, River? Merk?" River: "Is Madame Morte knows? That Za

Tuesday morning, 9 AM, and Sable spun his chair away from his expensive desk, facing his personal assistant. "Merk, get my favorite coffee..." but with a twist, Sable added, "...just text Ice to get it from my car. The black big thermos, but it's my tumbler. Remember that? Of course he's there, in the parking lot, right?" Merk nodded instantly, his face a mask of efficient obedience but still obeys. Ten agonizing minutes later, Zander/Ice entered the office. He walked with a precise, muted stride, placing the heavy, black tumbler gently on Sable's polished glass table. Sable ignored the tumbler, his eyes fixed on the driver. "Hey Ice, when you get back in the parking lot. Order my favorite meal. Remember what you order last week from Merk's text? Order it again. Got it?" It was a small, petty task designed purely to reinforce the hierarchy. But today, the new Zander Morte memory, still fragmented but aggressively active, provided a counter-move. Zander/Ice replied instantly, his

Sable let out a rich yet barking laugh. Dimé chuckled along, his tone calculated. Dimé: "Oh wow. Stop it, Sable. If the Morte knows it, are you sure you're not in trouble?" They all laughed, the sound echoing in the lobby. Inside Teggo's mind, a fresh thread of suspicion twisted tight. Is Dimé a true best friend of Sable? Teggo forced a laugh, a dry, internal joke about the depths of Morte treachery. Sable, Teggo, and Dimé arrived at the Morte’s New York office at 10 AM. As soon as the three men separated; Sable heading for his meeting, Teggo for a fake negotiation & planning to go out in Morte's office, and Dimé in Sable's office waiting for his driver, Merk Keen found his opportunity. Merk, still playing the role of Sable's indispensable, efficient assistant, cornered Ellvys. In the underground garage, near the executive parking section. Merk leaned against a pillar, his posture casual, his voice strained. "Ellvys, what's your take on Ice with the Morte Firewall moment? Did he

Teggo: "No, man." Sable noticed the familiarity, his eyes narrowing. He asked straightly, "Do you know each other?" waving his pointing finger between Merk and Teggo. Merk: "No, sir." Teggo: "What? Are you kidding, Sable?" Sable crossed his legs, forming the symbol “4”, rubbing his chin in suspicion. Merk and Teggo, however, are prepared for this situation. Teggo: "Maybe this guy is my enemy. Like you. Like Zander. I don't friends with pathetic people." Merk rolled his eyes at the insult, giving documents to Sable. "Sir, these are the documents~" Sable: "We're in the restaurant for that?! Anyway. Are you following me, Teggo?" Teggo: "No. I want to know the updates on the deal~" Sable: "Here? We're talking about the deal here? How do you know I'm~?" Teggo’s face turned slightly red, but he composed himself with brutal honesty. "Hey princess, calm down. Remember, we were here before too? Talking business here because every day, you always go here for your hot raspberry coffee.
