Damian nodded slowly as he studied the small screen floating before him.
The system possessed powerful features that would become invaluable as the apocalypse drew closer. Preparing for what was coming would be much easier now—not only when it came to storing supplies, but also in dealing with the enemies he would eventually face.
“System, when can I start completing tasks?” Damian asked.
“You may begin immediately, Master. Would you like me to display today’s tasks?”
“All right. Show me.”
The small screen before him immediately changed.
“Each day, you will receive three tasks. Two will be randomly generated, while the remaining one will be your main task.”
Damian frowned.
“Really?”
“Yes. Displaying today’s tasks.”
[Random Task One: Reclaim What Belongs to You]
Damian raised an eyebrow as he read the task issued by the system.
[Reclaim at least one asset currently being misused by your wife or her family.]
[Reward: The monetary value of every successfully reclaimed asset will be doubled.]
Damian’s eyes sharpened.
The reward was certainly generous.
[Random Task Two: Combat Training]
[Complete one hour of uninterrupted combat training.]
[Reward: Rapid Regeneration.]
Damian paused to think.
“Rapid Regeneration? What does that do?” he asked.
“You will gain a self-healing ability. Your injuries will heal significantly faster, and your stamina will rapidly recover.”
A smile appeared on Damian’s face. He looked down at his hands, still unable to believe that the system could grant him such an extraordinary ability.
“Cool. What’s the main task?”
“That was deliberately reserved for last.”
The screen changed once again.
[Main Task: Divorce Sarah Moore.]
Damian suddenly laughed.
“Well, you didn’t have to tell me to do that. I was already planning to.”
—
Two cars stopped outside the family court.
Grace Moore, Sarah’s mother, was the first to step out of the first vehicle. Tyler Moore, Sarah’s younger brother, followed closely behind her.
Sarah and Adrian Rivers emerged from the second car.
All four of them were dressed as though they were about to attend a lavish party rather than a divorce proceeding.
They climbed the courthouse steps together.
“Do you really think he’ll divorce you, Sis?” Tyler asked with a mocking grin.
Grace scoffed. “As if he could actually go through with it. We all know how obsessed that man is with Sarah.”
Sarah released a quiet breath.
She was also confident that Damian would never truly divorce her. Still, for some reason she couldn’t explain, an uneasy feeling had settled inside her chest.
Adrian wrapped an arm around Sarah’s shoulders and gently stroked her arm.
“What’s wrong? Why do you seem so restless?”
“I’m not sure.”
“Is this about Mr. Cross?” Grace asked. “Don’t worry. We’ll be meeting him later, won’t we? We can explain everything to him. We’ll tell him that Damian was the one at fault.”
“Exactly!” Tyler eagerly agreed. “This is all Damian’s fault! Who knows what kind of lies he told Mr. Cross? He probably can’t accept that Mr. Cross is interested in Sarah!”
Adrian smirked.
“Don’t worry. I’ll be there too. If Mr. Cross refuses to listen, I’ll personally tell him the truth.”
Tyler laughed.
“That’s right! Adrian is now a business partner of Cross Corporation. Mr. Cross will obviously favor Adrian over Damian. Damian is nothing but a security guard!”
Adrian’s confidence immediately swelled.
“Of course. Compared to me, Damian is nothing more than dirt that no one would even bother looking at.”
Grace clapped her hands in delight.
“You’re absolutely right! I’m truly grateful that, despite everything that happened between you and my daughter, you still continue to take care of her.”
Adrian laughed, becoming even more conceited when he saw how openly the Moore family preferred him over Damian.
“You certainly have a lot of confidence in yourself, Adrian.”
The four of them froze when a familiar voice came from behind them.
They turned and saw Damian standing there with Naomi Grant, who was holding a document envelope.
“Well, well. Look who finally decided to show his face,” Grace said immediately. “How dare you humiliate my daughter by divorcing her? Just who do you think you are, Damian?”
Tyler clenched his fists.
“You bastard! How dare you come here? Apologize to my sister right now! If you beg hard enough, she might change her mind and take you back as her little toy!”
Damian merely smirked.
“Did you really think I would back down?”
Sarah swallowed before stepping forward.
“Damian! What is wrong with you? Are you still angry because I left yesterday? Come on! Stop acting like a child and grow up!”
Adrian remained silent. His attention had shifted toward Naomi.
“Wait. You look familiar,” he said. “You’re the Cross family’s secretary, aren’t you?”
Naomi blinked but showed no surprise at being recognized. Since Damian had withdrawn from the company, she had been the one handling most of Cross Corporation’s clients on his behalf.
Grace, Sarah, and Tyler exchanged startled glances.
“Are you serious, Adrian?” Tyler asked in disbelief. “Why would Mr. Cross’s secretary come here with Damian?”
“That’s right,” Grace added. “If she really is Ms. Grant, why is she accompanying him?”
Sarah’s eyes widened.
“You!” she shouted at Damian. “I knew it! You’ve been bad-mouthing me to Mr. Cross!”
Damian laughed.
“Why would I bother doing that? Ms. Grant is here as my lawyer.”
Sarah froze.
“What? You have a lawyer?” she asked incredulously.
“Yes. Now, let’s get this over with. I know all of you are very busy.”
Sarah stared at him in shock.
She couldn’t believe Damian truly intended to proceed with the divorce.
Damian was about to enter the courthouse when Sarah hurriedly stopped him.
“Wait! Are you really going through with this, Damian?”
He stopped and looked at her.
For the first time, genuine worry appeared on Sarah’s face. In his previous life, seeing that expression might have been enough to make him hesitate.
But then the memory of his death returned.
He remembered Sarah smiling as his life slowly slipped away.
Damian’s eyes narrowed, and whatever warmth they once held disappeared.
“Yes,” he answered coldly. “Why? Are you afraid now that I’m the one leaving you?”
Grace burst out laughing.
“You fool! Do you honestly think Sarah will lose anything by divorcing you? Go ahead and file for divorce! We’ll see which one of you comes crawling back to beg her for another chance!”
“We’ll see about that,” Damian replied meaningfully.
He no longer bothered arguing with them. He turned and continued toward the courthouse entrance, with Naomi following closely behind him.
After taking a few steps, however, Damian stopped.
He glanced back at the Moore family.
“Right. I almost forgot. You should start looking for somewhere else to live. I’m taking back the house I allowed you to use.”
Sarah went still, while Grace gasped in outrage.
“You fool! That house belongs to us! You can’t take it back!” Grace shouted.
“Oh, really?” Damian calmly replied. “Because according to the title, I’m still the legal owner.”
“Damian, don’t blame me for what happens next!” Sarah yelled. “Once we’re divorced, there will be no chance for us to get back together! I won’t accept you again, no matter how much you beg!”
Damian did not answer.
He merely looked her up and down, as though her warning were the most ridiculous thing he had heard all day.
Sarah had manipulated him countless times in his previous life.
But she would never control him again.
This time, Damian would reclaim everything that had belonged to him from the very beginning.

Gosh, he’s so handsome!”“Wait. Isn’t that Sarah Moore’s ex-husband? He’s Mr. Cross?”“Oh my God! He stood before the crowd with complete confidence, looking proud, powerful, and undeniably handsome.During their four years of marriage, she had never seen any indication that Damian was wealthy. In fact, she had often been the one paying whenever they went out together.“Is this some kind of joke?” Grace asked in disbelief. “Is he really Mr. Cross?”Tyler shot to his feet.“Impossible! Technically, that makes him Mr. Cross.”“Isn’t she his lawyer?” Adrian asked suspiciously.Sarah straightened her back. The very idea that Damian could be the mysterious Mr. Cross was impossible. Her former husband and the chairman of Cross Corporation couldn’t possibly be the same person.“You again?” Sarah asked. “Aren’t you Damian’s lawyer?”Then she let out a mocking laugh.“Did my ex-husband impress you so much that you even followed him here?”Naomi narrowed her eyes and turned toward her.“Aren’t you Sarah Moore, one of Cross Corporation’s project managers?
