Ethan stared at the photograph.

Four faces.

His father, Richard Carter.

Marcus Rose.

David Hayes.

And the woman none of them had named.

The photograph was old, its edges yellowed with time. Yet the woman’s face was surprisingly clear.

She looked young—perhaps in her early twenties.

There was something unsettling about her expression.

She wasn't smiling.

She wasn't afraid.

She was looking directly at the camera as if she already knew whoever would eventually find the photograph.

“Who is she?” Ethan asked.

Richard didn't answer.

“Dad.”

Richard slowly took the photograph from his hand.

“Some questions are dangerous because the answer doesn't stay buried.”

Ethan stepped closer.

“I've already seen what happens when things stay buried.”

Richard's eyes narrowed.

“What do you mean?”

Ethan froze.

He had said too much again.

Richard studied him carefully.

“You've changed.”

The words hit harder than Ethan expected.

“What?”

“Your eyes.”

Richard placed the photograph on the table.

“You used to look at the world like nothing bad could happen to you. Now you look at everything like you're waiting for someone to attack.”

Ethan said nothing.

Richard continued.

“Whatever happened to you these last few days, don't let it turn you into someone you don't recognize.”

For a moment, Ethan almost told him everything.

About his death.

About the future.

About the System.

About September 29.

But he couldn't.

Not yet.

Instead, he pointed at the photograph.

“Tell me about her.”

Richard looked away.

“Her name was Elena Vale.”

The name immediately caught Ethan's attention.

“Vale?”

Richard nodded.

“She was connected to a company called Blackridge Logistics.”

Ethan's heart tightened.

Blackridge.

The same company that had appeared repeatedly in the financial documents before his death.

The same company that had connections to the fraud that destroyed him.

He forced himself to remain calm.

“What happened to her?”

“She disappeared.”

“When?”

“October 14, 1996.”

Ethan's breathing stopped for a second.

The exact date from the message.

The warehouse fire.

The woman.

Blackridge.

Everything was beginning to connect.

“Was she killed?”

“We never found a body.”

“Then how do you know she's dead?”

Richard looked directly at him.

“We don't.”

Silence filled the room.

Then Ethan noticed something.

A small handwritten number was visible on the back of the photograph.

14-10-96.

Under it was another line.

B-17.

“What does B-17 mean?”

Richard immediately reached for the photograph.

Ethan pulled it away.

His father's expression changed.

“Where did you see that?”

“On the photograph.”

Richard stared at him.

For the first time, Ethan saw genuine fear in his father's eyes.

“Dad?”

Richard lowered his voice.

“B-17 was the storage section of the warehouse.”

Ethan's pulse accelerated.

“What was stored there?”

Richard hesitated.

“Records.”

“What kind of records?”

“Company records.”

“That doesn't explain why everyone was there.”

Richard didn't respond.

Ethan stepped closer.

“Were you there when the warehouse burned?”

“Yes.”

“Marcus Rose?”

“Yes.”

“David Hayes?”

“Yes.”

“And Elena?”

Richard's jaw tightened.

“Yes.”

Ethan finally asked the question that mattered.

“Why did the warehouse burn?”

Richard looked at the photograph again.

“Because someone wanted something destroyed.”

“What?”

“I don't know.”

Ethan knew immediately that was a lie.

His father knew more.

Much more.

Before Ethan could press him further, the System activated.

[Future System Alert.]

[Hidden Event Detected.]

[The investigation into October 14, 1996 has begun earlier than recorded.]

[Timeline deviation increasing.]

Ethan's eyes widened.

Then another message appeared.

[Warning.]

[Someone is monitoring this investigation.]

The room suddenly felt colder.

Ethan looked toward the window.

Nothing.

Only the street outside.

But he remembered the black car.

The unknown messages.

The university terminal.

Someone had already been watching him.

And now they knew he was asking questions about 1996.

His phone vibrated.

Unknown Number.

One message.

“Your father lied about Elena.”

Ethan's fingers tightened around the phone.

A second message arrived.

“Ask him what she carried out of Warehouse B-17.”

Ethan slowly turned toward Richard.

His father was already looking at him.

“You got another message, didn't you?”

Ethan didn't answer.

Richard's face went pale.

“Show me.”

Ethan handed him the phone.

Richard read the messages.

His hands began to tremble.

“Dad?”

Richard looked at Ethan.

“She didn't carry something out.”

“Then what did she carry?”

Richard swallowed.

“She carried someone.”

Ethan stared at him.

“Who?”

Richard's eyes filled with something Ethan had never seen before.

Fear mixed with regret.

“A child.”

Ethan's entire body went still.

“A child?”

Richard nodded slowly.

“On the night of the fire, Elena escaped through the rear entrance.”

“With a child?”

“Yes.”

“Whose child?”

Richard didn't answer.

“Dad. Whose child?”

Richard looked directly into Ethan's eyes.

“That's the part I've spent twenty years trying to forget.”

Before Ethan could say another word, his phone vibrated again.

This time, the message contained only five words.

“Ask your father about Amelia Rose.”

Ethan's blood ran cold.

Amelia.

The girl he had saved.

The girl who wasn't supposed to survive.

The girl whose future had already begun changing because of him.

He slowly raised his eyes toward Richard.

“Dad…”

Richard's expression changed the moment he heard Amelia's name.

And Ethan knew.

His father knew exactly who she was.

[System Alert.]

[Critical Connection Detected.]

[Amelia Rose is connected to the October 14, 1996 event.]

[New Objective Unlocked: Protect Amelia.]

Ethan stared at the final line.

Then another message appeared.

[Warning: Protecting her may change your own future permanently.]

Ethan closed his fist.

For the first time since his rebirth, the path ahead became clear.

He wasn't only trying to prevent his own death anymore.

He was trying to protect someone whose existence might be the key to understanding why he had been given a second life.

And somewhere in the city, someone was already preparing to stop him.
