Fury boiled within Wallace as he watched the debt collectors glance at Becca.
He reached for her wrist, desperate to pull her back before the confrontation turned bloody, but Becca stepped forward fearlessly. However, beneath that boldness was fear because Wallace could see her trembling. After all, as a cultivator, she knew what these men were. Evil Cultivators who were predators that enslaved the spirits of the deceased, refining them into "Soul Fuel" to power their own energy. To anyone at her level, they were untouchable monsters. Only a high-tier Immortal could hope to banish them. Realizing that her presence was putting Wallace, who was still struggling at the lowest stage in mortal danger, her panic spiked. “I will pay the debt!” Becca shouted, her voice cracking. Wallace stared at her in shock, but the collectors didn’t flinch. Their gaze remained fixed on her. As high-ranking practitioners of dark energy, they could sense her aura which was a rare prize for them because she had pure energy. Only then did the leader's grin widen because he knew that if he forced a Dual-Cultivation Bond by having sex with her, he could dilute her cultivation and get that pure power for himself. With such a foundation, his breakthrough to the higher Soul realm would be guaranteed. “I will pay! Please, just let him go!” Becca pleaded. In her car sat two thousand Spirit Stones intended for her academy tuition. “What? No! I’ll sort this out myself,” Wallace interrupted, but Becca shook her head frantically. She was terrified that if she didn't settle this now, these monsters would wipe Wallace and his mother off the face of the Earth. “What if I want something else?” the leader sneered, his eyes filled with a dark, oily lust. Thinking he wanted a higher bribe, Becca scrambled mentally. “I have another thousand stones! What is the balance? I can…’ The leader lunged forward, grabbing her wrist and cutting her off. “You must lay with me!” Wallace’s fist clenched. The anger that had been managed was suddenly replaced by a cold calm wondering if they really wanted to touch her. “Take your hands off my woman! Now,” Wallace said in anger while Becca became dazed for a second. He had never called her his woman! However, Wallace believed she would understand why he said that because of the situation. “Your woman?” The leader paused, then burst into a mocking laugh. “A Foundation-level trash settling for a Golden Core goddess? In your dreams!” The leader snapped his fingers almost immediately while his subordinates prepared to unleash Soul-Piercing Daggers of mental pain at Wallace. However, as they moved, Wallace shifted. Swiftly, Wallace caught the leader’s shoulder and pivoted. The daggers of pain intended for Wallace slammed directly into the boss’s chest and … Smack! “I asked you to hit him! Not me!” the leader yelled, his grip on Becca breaking as he touched his chest. “Sorry, boss!” the minions cried. They tried again, snapping their fingers to trap more energy. Again, Wallace moved swiftly, shoving the off-balance leader directly into the path of the daggers. The leader fell to his knees with a muffled scream. “You mistake monsters for gods, you fools,” Wallace muttered. Becca watched in stunned silence. Even at the Golden Core stage, she had never seen movement that swift or precise. Such battles required a level of spiritual intelligence and Qi control that took centuries to master. Has Wallace been lying to her all these years? she wondered, watching him standing there, looking almost bored by the scene. By the third time the minions accidentally struck their leader, the man’s vocal cords had seized. “Stop... stop this!” the leader managed to say, inwardly yelling in pain. Wallace crouched down to the man's level. "You wanted to discuss a debt?" Wallace asked coldly. “Let’s talk about what you owe the world for existing this long." Wallace reached into the man’s robes, grabbing a tiny, golden jar hanging from a neck chain. This was the Soul-Binding Vessel used to enslave his victims. With a casual flick of his thumb, Wallace crushed the artifact. The spirits within, suddenly unshackled, tore themselves free and immediately swarmed their former master in a whirlwind of vengeful energy. "It's bad enough that you're a shameless debt collector. Now, you're nothing without your stolen power," Wallace said, giving the man a final, disdainful shove. The leader’s eyes rolled back as he slipped into unconsciousness. “Boss!” the minions yelled. Seeing their powerful leader defeated by a "weakling," they broke rank and fled out as fast as their legs could carry them. Becca stood dazed, her mind unable to process the shift in reality. Before Wallace could reach her, she lost consciousness. “What have you done? You should have let her give them the stones!” Wallace’s mother cried out. “If anything happens to her, her family will destroy us!” Wallace let out a short, sad laugh however as he swooped Becca in his arms. He could see that the effect of what his father did was taking a toll on her to the extent that she could not remember that all these were normal. He also realized the "Modern Cultivation" world had made people soft. Becca had passed out simply because she couldn't imagine the "trash" Wallace with the master she had just witnessed. What are they even teaching at these sects now? he wondered. Is the world so modern that they’ve forgotten what true power looks like? He thought, glancing at his mother. Then, he paused for a while. “Mother,” Wallace said, his expression turning solemn. “If you were to regain the power you lost... would you truly be happy?” The woman froze, a look of horror crossing her face. As a Primordial Spirit Mother, losing her cultivation was a fate worse than death. She was growing old and the idea of starting over seemed like an impossible dream. Before she could answer, the front door was kicked open with a thunderous bang. A young man in an expensive academy uniform stormed in, his face reeked of rage, almost causing Wallace to lose his balance as he screamed, “Take your filthy hands off my sister!” Before Wallace could understand what was going on, a pair of hands grabbed Becca from him while he stumbled, while trying to regain his balance. “Don't you dare touch my sister anymore, you low trash!” He yelled again, glaring at him while Wallace looked at him in confusion. For a moment, Wallace's head could not comprehend this person even though he was overly familiar. That was because he had stressed his brain so hard that day while trying to recollect a lot of things. Just before he could give up, it clicked again. It turned out that Yemeni was Becca's adopted stepbrother who was switched many years ago while the family went on a family trip while the real brother was currently being searched for. In order to get an inheritance from that family, he knew he had to make Becca fall in love with him so he could marry her directly knowing that when the real brother comes, he won't have to be bothered by anything. Seeing that Wallace was an obstacle, he played a part in sabotaging their relationship and was the last person to see him die by striking him. Till that moment, he couldn't comprehend how the bastard didn't die. “Surprised I'm still alive, Huh?” Wallace asked with a sinister look on his face while Yemeni tried to hide it as he glared at him maliciously. “What exactly do you want from my sister? Stones? Power?” “Stepsister” Wallace corrected while he looked at him with bloodshot eyes wondering how he found out not knowing that Becca had blurted it to him a few months ago. Clicking his tongue, he helped her safely into the car and grabbed a bag of spirit stones. Only then did he rush back inside and threw it at Wallace in anger. “That's the language poor people like you understand! Take it and leave my sister alone!”Latest Chapter
14. The bounty
Yemeni's face fell completely flat. He secretly gritted his teeth in humiliation, realizing just how much of a fool he had made of himself. The throbbing pain in his shattered jaw from the robot's physical blows was nothing compared to the pain of being laughed at by Becca.Turning away from her pathetic brother, Becca looked down at Wallace, her expression softening into a warm smile. “My sincere apologies for whatever you just had to witness, Wallace. How about you come inside so we can talk?”Wallace nodded and followed her into the mansion, secretly wondering if this young lady had already forgotten how chaotic their very last encounter had been.As they walked into the living room, Wallace cleared his throat. “Becca, about what just happened to your brother, I…”“Oh, please!” She dismissed his concern with a wave of her hand as she sank into the nearest couch. “You know how much I despise him. That leech is nothing but trouble. If it weren't for the sudden bottleneck I hit durin

“And what if I did?”A familiar, mocking voice cut through the corner of the environment. Only then did Wallace turn around, his eyes narrowing as he scoffed.“I knew you would stoop low, Yemeni, but bringing your security men into this? The time you spent orchestrating this could have been used to actually improve your cultivation. What a waste.”Yemeni however sneered as he clenched his fists until his knuckles turned white. He loathed this trash and badly wanted him dead! By all rights, Yemeni was superior in every way… wealth, status, and cultivation realm but looking at Wallace, an uncomfortable thought crossed his mind. It felt as if Wallace possessed some hidden, unfathomable backing that he couldn't quite understand.Desperate to regain the upper hand, Yemeni leaned in with a smirk all over his face. “I see the death of your mother hasn't taken a toll on you yet. Just wait until she’s buried, and then…”“Why? Are you waiting for her to die because you desperately hope that
12. Yemeni's cunning actions
“Mother…” Wallace muttered in horror the moment he sighed his mother whose body had almost turned dark within a few hours of the attack. Yet, he knew he had to do everything to save her just for the sake of the Old Wallace. “Wallace…. I told you not to bother…” she said, holding him warmly as she coughed slightly, knowing fully well that her soul was almost slipping off her body. Wallace however walked away from her, hurriedly mixing the herbs with water. Just as he was done, he hurriedly forced her to drink it. He knew how much of a miracle it was for her to stay alive up till that moment even though he could not identify the actual poison. “There's something important I need to let you know,” she said after a while. “Those debt collectors that came the other day still have head bosses. In fact, they are still coming…” She muttered while Wallace smiled. He could see that even though she was no longer a Primordial Spirit-Mother, the herbs recognized the body and kind of sharpene
11. The prey
Chapter 11Half an hour later, Wallace arrived at his detached apartment. He paused, his eyes narrowing at the black Lexus parked directly opposite his gate. The owner had clearly been waiting for some time. In this neighborhood, the kind of car stood awkward because of how much of a high profile both the car and the person was as she leaned against it. “Wally!” She called out the moment she spotted him. Only then did Wallace stop because of how familiar the voice seemed to be. He stifled a scoff. Sally was his cousin, the daughter of the man who had conspired to betray Wallace’s mother. After his father had stripped his mother of her primordial essence, he had funneled those stolen resources into Sally’s training, turning her into the "genius" she was today. He couldn't believe how gullible the "old" Wallace had been by treating these vipers like family. He looked down at the faint scar on his lower arm that reminded him of the time he had taken a fall to save her life.“I know yo
10. Red-eyed gang
Half an hour later, Wallace walked out of the forest in a hurry with a full sack of leaves hanging on his back. He was only a few miles from home when the atmosphere shifted. From the shadows of the road emerged a pack of cultivators with eyes like glowing embers known as the "Red-Eyed Gang."It was a strange sight, yet a familiar one. These were the students of his former sect, students cast out for dark misconduct long before he became a student. Now, they were little more than lapdogs for evil cultivators. In his memory, Wallace saw them clearly: they were the ones who had relentlessly targeted him, held back only by Becca’s protection. They had expected his story to end in the gutter, just like theirs.Yet, on seeing that he came out of the forest they dared not enter with a bag of herbs, their shock tripled and now, what they wanted was more than what they thought initially. Wallace offered a weary sigh and tried to step past. A hand clamped onto his shoulder, jerking him back
9. The forest
A few minutes later, Wallace found his way into the inner core of the forest, with each herb calling for his attention. However, using his knowledge as a powerful past cultivator, he knew that most of these plants were poisonous despite their attractive appearance. Only then did he stumble across specimens he never thought he would see in this universe: Sky-anchor Vine, Cicada Petal, and Star-plucking Grass. Together, they represented the bone, blood, and breath required to rebuild the broken bridges to the heavens and soften his withered tissues.“My goodness!” he exclaimed in shock. With these herbs and a few wisps of ambient energy, the body he was stuck in was primed to break through to the next stage of Qi.He quickly gathered them and prepared to move to the next section of the dark forest. Suddenly, he screamed in agony, dropping the leaves as he collapsed. Before he could realize what was happening, an Emerald Glint Serpent coiled around him, constricting so tightly that he
