This time, Felix wouldn't joke.

He sat at the desk with his father's old coat hanging over the back of the chair and his parents' photograph beside the lamp. After staring at the blank page for a moment, he picked up the pen.

Six months.

That was all the time he had to prepare for the apocalypse. The money from his World Cup bet would give him the means to begin, but he needed to spend it wisely.

He started with the house.

The building was practically useless in its current condition, so he would hire an experienced construction company and pay extra to speed up the work. He wanted the property rebuilt and fortified before the apocalypse arrived.

The exterior walls would be reinforced with thick steel plates and concrete. Every window would be replaced with bulletproof glass, with automatically controlled metal shutters installed behind them. He could open the shutters to let sunlight in or close them whenever danger approached.

The main gate would be twenty inches thick, while the doors would be more than ten inches thick, reinforced and fitted with secure locks. He would also install surveillance cameras, motion sensors, and backup systems that could keep the security equipment running during a power failure.

He couldn't afford to have the construction drag on until the apocalypse was at his doorstep. He would need to hire enough workers, secure the materials in advance, and make sure the company understood that delays wouldn't be tolerated. If necessary, he would pay for workers to operate in shifts.

Felix added another item to the list.

Batteries.

He intended to buy thousands of them in different sizes, along with rechargeable battery banks and charging equipment. He would also acquire generators and alternative power sources. He didn't know exactly how much he would need, but he wasn't going to let a lack of electricity leave him helpless.

He'd mount the panels vertically, like a fence, bifacial, catching the low winter sun and the light snow threw back at them, nothing piling up, nothing buried. The Antarctic stations did it that way. Heated ones, too, a wire threaded through the glass to melt what settled. He'd paint the ground beneath them black, so the snow gave up faster.

A small turbine on the roof. In an ice age the wind never stopped. More dependable than the sun.

And a diesel-solar hybrid: panels charging the batteries by day, the generator coughing to life at night.

Next came supplies.

He would stockpile rice, flour, beans, pasta, cooking oil, salt, sugar, canned food, dried meat, powdered milk, and other food that could last for months. Drinking water, beverages, water purifiers, and cooking equipment were equally important, thanks to his spatial storage. He can store as much as he wants.

Then he wrote down seeds.

Felix wanted as many varieties as he could obtain, including vegetables, fruits, grains, and herbs. He would buy them from different suppliers and store them properly, along with basic farming tools, fertilizer, and equipment for preserving whatever he managed to grow.

He also needed clothes in different sizes, from babies to fully grown adults, for both males and females. Winter clothing would be a priority: thick coats, thermal underwear, insulated boots, gloves, hats, blankets, and sleeping bags.

He intended to buy enough to avoid worrying about clothing for a long time. Extra supplies could prove useful if he needed to replace damaged items, accommodate someone later, or trade for something he lacked.

After finishing the list, he moved to transportation.

Modified Ford F-350 Super Duty.

He wanted a powerful truck that could carry heavy loads and cross snow-covered terrain. The body and doors would be reinforced with armor, while the windshield would be bullet-resistant and heated to prevent ice from blocking his view. Narrow side windows and retractable metal shutters would provide additional protection.

The tires would have run-flat inserts, with reinforced wheel wells and a system for adjusting tire pressure from inside the cabin. Heavy-duty skid plates would protect the underside, while a reinforced front bumper would help clear snow and smaller obstacles.

He would install a raised exhaust, a powerful cabin heater, and additional fuel tanks to extend the truck's range. The grille would have adjustable armored shutters, allowing airflow to the engine when needed. He would also keep spare tires, repair tools, and essential equipment onboard.

A roof hatch and secure interior locking system would complete the modifications. Most importantly, the finished truck would have to be tested before the apocalypse. A heavily armored vehicle that broke down in the snow would be useless.

Felix reviewed the list. The house would be his stronghold, the supplies would keep him alive, and the truck would give him a way to travel when staying indoors was no longer an option.

There was still one important problem.

His body.

In his previous life, Felix had been an ordinary office worker. He hadn't needed exceptional strength or stamina to get through his daily routine, but the apocalypse had changed everything. He remembered the exhaustion, the desperate struggle for food, and the helplessness of being unable to defend himself.

He wasn't going to repeat that mistake.

He wrote down his next objective: hire an excellent physical trainer and hand-to-hand combat instructor.

Over the next six months, he would improve his strength, endurance, and fighting ability as much as possible. He knew he wouldn't become an unbeatable fighter in such a short time, but he could at least learn to defend himself and avoid wasting energy in a fight.

He would also visit a shooting range regularly to learn how to handle firearms and improve his accuracy. He couldn't depend on weapons alone, but he saw no reason to neglect a skill that might save his life.

Once he finished, Felix read through the list again. Construction, security, food, water, seeds, clothing, batteries, transportation, and training and lot more.

It was a lot to arrange in six months, but he finally had a plan.

His gaze shifted to his parents' photograph. His expression softened as he looked at their familiar faces.

He had lost them once. This time, he would protect what they had left behind.

Felix put down the pen and stretched before heading to bed. For the first time that day, he allowed himself to stop thinking about what needed to be done.

He didn't even check whether the match between Spain and France had started. He could look at the result when he woke up.

With a faint grin, he closed his eyes and drifted to sleep.

His first day back in the past had finally come to an end.

My daughter Silvia called and ordered every single one of your things thrown out, and I did it. You must have done something to displease her, and whatever it is, you'd better fix it."He jabbed a finger toward the street. "Now get moving. Silvia was truly furious. To her, Felix had always been nothing more than a free servant with a salary. The man worked under Davidson and earned ten thousand dollars a month, and every single month he handed eighty percent of it to her, no complaints, no questions. For what? For the honor of taking care of her and her family, of course. The remaining two thousand was barely enough for his need, which was exactly how much a man like him needed. On top of that, he handled all the house chores. The cooking, the washing, the cleaning, all of it. And now, with her pregnant, she had already been dreaming of the next stage. Felix, the free nanny. Hearing his words, Silvia paused on the other end of the phone, as if her mind needed a moment to process his words."Divorce? Are you crazy? I'm three months pregnant, and I'll give birth to our child in the next six months! You want your own flesh and blood to grow up in a broken home? How selfish can a man be?! Do you even hear yourself right now?""Uhm, Silvia..." Felix drawled lazily. "You're about to be promoted to manage the other branch of Star Corporation out of the city, right?""And it was Davidson who recommended you, right? I also heard Davidson is about to be promoted from director to managing director. I wonder... would the two of you still be climbing so beautifully if everyone found out you're adulterers?""Wha... What do you mean by that?" Silvia's usual aloof voice trembled."You don't need to know how I found out. Will you come to the divorce court right now? Yes or no?""... I will.""Now you're talking.
