Chaos In Keith’s Home:
“Are you two planning to share our home or fight and argue all the time?” He looked at them with a wary stare and asked.“We're just passing time here,” Keith said, carefully choosing his words. He raised his nose to the air. “Don’t we all have similar experiences? My name is Jeb.”Another was a woman with a puppy and a young man with an eye scar after her. They didn’t say anything as they ate the food they had. She held close to Keith, clearly fearing him.Afterward, Keith got up and went somewhere to make a quick phone call. When he got the signal, he picked up the phone and dialed the number.“Markus. We're ready. Have the helicopter go to the Eastfield train yard. We will alight from the train at twenty.”He was ready to end the call when his phone vibrated. The phone number said “Seth.”"Seth? What's wrong?"“It's Mom. She has made it to the house. She is fussing at all the staff, as if she is back to being the head of the house. I asked her to leave, yet she insists on staying.”
Traces Of Uncertainty:
The echo of metal and rusty horns in the train yard made it clear this place was alive with action and created a fearful atmosphere for Keith and Bella. The valves hissed and small puddles shone, reflecting the two escaping criminals as they ran along the old railcars. She pulled her coat nearer to her as she looked around, watching all the actions of the people nearby. Barry’s troops might be lurking anywhere around us.Keith nodded while keeping his jaw strong. He used his watch to activate a low-frequency scanner. “Yet, we need to act fast since the next security check is coming soon.”They moved along the edge of the map, hiding under stairs and passing underneath stacks of cargo containers. In the distance, a freight train began making its loud rattle, making them feel more alert.Keith pointed in the direction of the boxcars being lined up to leave the station. “It looks like the train is getting ready to depart. It’s by far our greatest chance."Bella moved her gaze to the came
Desperate Measures:
The men scattered instantly, some going down through the building, others calling their mates on the ground on the radio. Barry’s network was huge-corrupt law enforcement forces, bought-off locals, and blood-thirsty mercenaries. Keith and Bella had gotten away once but Barry was sick of playing games. On the ground level, Keith and Bella ran into an alleyway between two antique brick buildings, the mouth of which was partly covered with a collapsed dumpster and a tangle of wires.Wait,” Bella gasped, slouching over, her hands over her side. “Just a second.”Keith turned back and looked at the road. “We don’t have a second. They’re everywhere.”Footsteps pursued them, and two of Barry’s men showed up at the mouth of the alley. Keith pushed Bella further in the small passage where the walls closed closer.“This way!” he cried, and he saw a service ladder, which ran up the side of an old building that was crumblingThey made the climb on wobbly, rusted rungs. At the very top was a forgot
Into The Fray:
The skinny ventilation shaft crowded them, old air laden with dirt and the acrid odour of metal. Keith was on point and he led the way, every inch gained through the struggle grating his elbows and knees, heart pounding in the ears. Behind him, Bella’s breaths came in gasps, barely there was room for breathing, if not for moving. They had no choice. Barry’s men were combing the facility with their radios full of brusque directions. The shaft moaned under them, every whine sounding like a gunshot in the close confines. It was only a tip of the blade that they stood on, and one slip from either of them could see the thin metal beneath them give out.Keith got to the end of the shaft and looked through the small, grated vent. A breath of fresh air greeted him – cool, crisp and seasoned with the smell of rain-watered concrete. Beyond the vent, the rooftop appeared before the cover of a fast-darkening sky.“We’re out,” he whispered. He got to work on the screws in the vent cover with shaki
Narrow Escape:
“After you,” he said in a tight voice, urgency permeating his voice. The hands of Bella were slick with sweat; she climbed down with care. The ladder moaned under her weight but it did not snap. Keith was having the hatch above him sealed behind him. They were standing in an old corridor for maintenance, long abandoned and smelling of the dust and mildew. On the walls, there were pipes and some of them leaked slowly. Flickering bulbs created creepy shadows, which moved about them.Bella shivered. “Where does this lead?”Keith pointed ahead. “Emergency exit. As a part of the construction of the building initially. People have not touched it for years.”They moved quickly but cautiously. At every few steps Keith would stop, listen. One turn, they heard voices as Barry’s men located another parallel way.Keith dragged Bella into a space between two pipes, bidding her to be quiet with his finger to his mouth. The footsteps became louder and then became softer. It was not until he nodded f
Escape Mode:
Chaos exploded like a thunderclap. That instant the gunfire rent the room, Keith’s instincts jumped. With a harsh pull of the hand of Bella, he yelled “Move!” They ran, hearts pounding together with the bullets pinging around them. The previously-sterile boardroom degenerated into a bedlam – shouts; screams; breaking glass; overturned chairs. Every sound reverberated as if it was an anthem of a warzone.Bella was left with little time to understand the fear permeating her veins. Her heels slid across the marble floors in panic pursuit of Keith, avoiding a fallen table, permitting a blown-up wall and a close shave over her head.Coming behind, security rushed to act but Keith was already two steps ahead, guiding them through a labyrinth of halls in a way that he had the blueprint drawn into his memory.“We won’t get through the front,” he panted, and his grip on her got tighter. There is an opening for ventilation further ahead. It is a tight one but our best bet. They burst into a cor
Cornered:
Barry fired. The sharp sound of the gunshot filled the hall with the noise of thunder. Guests screamed. Chaos erupted.Keith held Bella’s hand and dragged her through the party’s crowd with Barry shouting after them. “Don’t let them escape! Stop them!”Barry’s men began shooting again, trying to shoot to wound instead of to kill. People ran for their lives, some hitting the ground and others trying to get out through the doors.Keith moved between the frightened people, not letting go of Bella’s hand. Crouching behind the table, they saw bullets dive into the wood and glasses breaking everywhere. Bella gave him a terrified look. She yelled at him, “You could have been shot!”“That’s true for you too!” he said. “I’d rather die than let that jerk win.”A bullet zipped by, coming close to hitting Keith on the head. They moved lower and hid against a pillar.“Where do we go?” Bella asked breathlessly.“I saw a kitchen exit that leads out to the service area. I saw it earlier. We only have
The Turning Point:
"Keith! Don’t sign it!" Bella shouted desperately. Then, the man tightened his grip and a low growl came into her ear. Don’t bother moving, sweetheart, or I’ll stick this right into your pretty neck. She went pale as the knife touched her and a new drop of blood showed up. She was completely still because she was so afraid.Keith, still kneeling, barely twitched. He did not show any reaction on his face as he gazed forward. He didn’t give any proof that he paid any attention to her.Barry walked toward Keith, showing his smile from the podium and moving slowly, just like a threatening animal. “Mr.” He bent forward and acted like bowing, almost mockingly, when he said, “Hey, McDonald, what’s your decision now?”He slowly raised his eyes, and it was easy to see he was tense. "Fine," he said evenly. "I’ll sign it."Barry’s grin widened. He told the security guards to step back from Keith. They gave him a short pause before moving away at last. Walking himself free of nervousness, Keith a
Keith Agrees:
He dropped to one knee so he could look straight at Keith.“How do you want this to end?” he asked. “Will you make this easy, or will I have to make you do it? I am honestly itching for blood. And yours would make a good addition to my collection.”Even though he was on the floor, Keith looked straight at Barry, without fear. Though he was out of breath, he still managed to talk in a quiet, clear voice.“Never in a million years will I agree to your company. Not now. Not ever."Darkness spread across Barry’s eyes, making him look dangerously serious. After that, he turned in Bella’s direction. His turned eyes made her realize it immediately. She realized, with a rush, that she was the next target in Barry’s evil game. One of Barry’s men moved. He was much faster than she expected, so Bella couldn’t get away.He pulled her to him by roughly gripping her throat. A sharp gasp escaped her, and her fingers scrabbled at his arm.Barry didn’t smile this time.“Perhaps we can talk you into ch
