"Wait, what do you mean you're not coming?" Ethan’s voice squeaked through the phone speaker, followed by the muffled background noise of a packed lecture hall. "Dude, Vance literally has the sign-in sheet in his hand right now. You spent three days grinding for that midterm last week!"

Noah closed his eyes for a second. Hearing Ethan’s mundane, everyday anxiety over a college attendance sheet felt surreal. In the previous timeline, Ethan had been crushed inside a collapsed subway tunnel during the first Gate outbreak while trying to get home to his family.

"Ethan," Noah said, his voice flat and steady. "Cover for me if you can. If you can't, don't worry about it. I have something urgent to handle."

"Urgent? Like what? Are you sick?"

"Something like that," Noah replied, walking over to his closet and pulling out a heavy canvas backpack and a pair of durable running shoes. "I'll call you later tonight. Stay on campus, alright? Don't go near the downtown commercial district."

"Downtown? Why would I..... hey, Noah, wait..."

Noah hung up the phone and tossed it onto his bed. He didn't have time to explain the impending apocalypse to Ethan right now. Without proof, Ethan would just think he was having a psychotic break, and trying to convince him would waste precious hours.

Ding.

The air in front of Noah rippled as the blue interface screen lit up again, perfectly synchronized with the clock on his phone hitting 09:00 AM.

[Sub-Quest Unlocked: System Authorization]

[Objective: Attune your consciousness with the Last Survivor System.]

[Description: Access the System Interface to review your current physical stats and claim your Initial Survival Allowance.]

[Reward: Beginner Survival Pack]

Noah focused his intent on the glowing screen. Having dealt with various magic artifacts and spatial runes in his past life, navigating a mental interface felt fairly intuitive.

"Status," Noah said clearly.

The screen shifted, displaying a clean layout of text and numerical values.

[User Status]

Name: Noah Blake

Age: 22

Rank: Unranked (Novice)

Title: None

Level: 1

[Attributes]

Strength: 8% (Average Adult Male: 10)

Agility: 9%

Endurance: 7%

Intelligence: 12%

Mana: 0 / 0 (Locked)

[Unallocated Attribute Points]: 0%

[Skills]: None

[System Currency]: 0% Survival Points (SP)

Noah stared at his physical stats and couldn't help but let out a dry, self-deprecating laugh.

Strength 8%. Endurance 7%. His body was in worse shape than he thought. Years of sitting at a desk, eating cheap noodles, and pulling all-nighters had left him weaker than an average adult male. In his previous life, after ten years of non-stop combat and mana refining, his physical strength alone was well over a hundred. Right now, a single low-level goblin could tear him apart if it caught him off guard.

"No mana," Noah muttered, tracing his finger along the status window. "That means I can't use any of my high-tier combat techniques yet. My body literally doesn't have the fuel to execute them."

He tapped the quest notification again to claim the completion.

Ding.

[Sub-Quest Complete: System Authorization]

[Reward Issued: Beginner Survival Pack]

[Item stored in System Inventory.]

A small inventory grid opened next to his status window, showing a single glowing crate icon in the first slot.

"Open Beginner Survival Pack," Noah commanded.

The crate icon shattered into fragments of blue light, and a series of system messages cascaded down the screen.

[You have received the following items:]

Basic Physical Enhancement Pill (x1)

Tactical Trench Dagger (E-Rank Artifact)

Map of Dormant Mana Nodes (Local Area)

500 Survival Points (SP)

Noah’s eyes widened slightly when he saw the third item. A map of dormant mana nodes?

In the first few months after the apocalypse, humanity had fought blind. It took years for researchers to discover that before a Gate opens, the surrounding area exhibits subtle mana leaks—dormant nodes—where ancient relics and raw mana crystals coalesce days before the tear actually ruptures.

Whoever found those nodes first could claim the relics before the monsters spawned.

"System," Noah spoke aloud, testing the boundary of the interface. "Explain the core mechanics. How do I earn more Survival Points?"

A cool, synthesized text response materialized in front of him.

[The Last Survivor System is designed to prepare the designated user for high-threat planetary extinction events.]

[Survival Points (SP) are awarded for completing System Quests, slaying Gate entities, securing hidden relics, and altering historical extinction events.]

[SP can be spent in the System Store to purchase skill scrolls, stat elixirs, and blueprint materials.]

[Warning: The System does not provide free power. Stats and skills acquired must be integrated through physical exertion and combat application. Failure to adapt will result in systemic rejection and death.]

Noah nodded slowly. This was the most important part.

He had seen plenty of arrogant Hunters in his past life who relied purely on quick level-ups and artificial stat boosts without building actual combat instincts. The second they faced an enemy stronger than their system calculated, they panicked and died instantly. Strength meant nothing without the muscle memory and mental fortitude to use it.

"At least you don't hand out free hand-outs," Noah said. "I can work with this."

He tapped his inventory and selected the Basic Physical Enhancement Pill. A small, dull grey sphere materialized directly into his right hand. It smelled faintly of iron and bitter herbs.

Without hesitating, Noah popped the pill into his mouth and swallowed it dry.

Instantly, a sharp, searing heat exploded in the pit of his stomach. It wasn't the destructive fire of the *Mana Overload* technique he had used in his final battle, but a deep, throbbing ache that spread outward into his limbs, forcing his muscles to contract violently.

Noah sank to his knees on the wooden floor, his knuckles digging into the floorboards as sweat poured from his forehead. He gritted his teeth, refusing to make a sound. Ten years of surviving crushed bones and open wounds had built a terrifyingly high pain tolerance. This was nothing.

For ten agonizing minutes, his muscle fibers tore, realigned, and dense tissue rebuilt itself under the influence of the pill.

When the heat finally subsided, Noah sat back against his bed, gasping for air. His shirt was completely soaked, but when he stood up, his body felt noticeably lighter, his posture sharper, and his breathing cleaner.

Ding.

[Basic Physical Enhancement Pill consumed.]

[Attributes Updated:]

Strength: 8% ➔ 14%

Agility: 9% ➔ 13%

Endurance: 7% ➔ 12%

Noah clenched his fist. The raw power was still modest, but he could feel the difference immediately. His reflexes were sharper, and the heavy fatigue in his limbs was completely gone.

He then reached into his inventory and selected the Tactical Trench Dagger.

A heavy, dark-grey steel blade materialized in his hand. It was roughly nine inches long, featuring a reinforced knuckleduster guard integrated into the hilt and a matte-black anti-reflective coating along the edge. The blade radiated a faint, cold hum—the signature sign of an E-Rank mana weapon.

Modern firearms were useless against higher-tier beasts because gunpowder explosions lacked mana conductivity. But an alloy blade like this, imbued with even a trace of mana, could slice through monster hides like paper.

"Good balance," Noah muttered, flipping the dagger in his grip with practiced ease before sheathing it into the leather scabbard that came with it and tucking it into his belt.

Finally, he brought up the Map of Dormant Mana Nodes.

A glowing 3D holographic map of his current city expanded in the air. The vast majority of the map was greyed out, but three distinct crimson dots were pulsing in different locations across the metropolitan sector.

One dot was located at a construction site downtown.

Another was deep inside the central park lake.

And the third-the brightest, most concentrated crimson dot was pulsing inside an abandoned industrial warehouse complex just four miles from his current location.

Noah stared at the warehouse marker. His eyes narrowed as his past memories aligned with the map data.

The Southside Warehouse District, Noah realized, his chest tightening. That’s where the first minor spatial fracture occurs two weeks before the main Gate outbreak. That's where the First Relic is hidden.

If he could retrieve that relic before the fracture fully stabilized, he wouldn't just gain his first real combat artifact, he would also absorb the dormant mana surrounding it, opening his own mana core weeks ahead of schedule.

Suddenly, a red warning prompt flashed over his status window.

[New Main Quest Issued: Claim the First Relic]

[Objective: Clear the Southside Warehouse before local temporal instability triggers a micro-fracture.]

[Time Remaining: 04 Hours, 12 Minutes]

[Warning: Unregistered mana signatures detected in the target perimeter. You are not the only one tracking this energy.]

Noah stared at the warning screen, his eyes growing icy.

Unregistered signatures? Thirty days before the apocalypse?

"So," Noah whispered, pulling a dark jacket over his knife and strapping his backpack tight. "There are already people operating in the shadows before the Gates even open."

He turned and strode out of his apartment room, slamming the door shut behind him.

The underground subway tunnels were dead quiet, save for the rhythmic dripping of water from exposed pipes along the ceiling. The air grew thicker with every step Noah, Lukas, and Sarah took, turning ice-cold and metallic.A heavy, purple haze hung in the dark air, glowing with a faint, unnatural light."My barrier is reacting to the atmosphere," Lukas whispered, glancing down at his arms. The skin on his forearms prickled as faint blue geometric lines flickered across his sleeves without his command. The raw spatial mana leaking through the concrete walls was so dense that his Absolute Barrier was absorbing it like a sponge."That's spatial pressure," Noah said, keeping his eyes locked on the tracks ahead. His trench dagger hummed softly in his right hand, the matte-black metal coated in a sharp layer of dark green wind. The dungeon metal felt strangely light against his spine, humming in harmony with the spatial mana pulsing beneath his skin. Beside him, Sarah stood holding her dark obsidian staff. Every time her fingers brushed the polished surface, small golden embers drifted into the cold night air, instantly dissolving the fog around her boots."Noah," Sarah said softly, glancing at the twelve opened crates filled with glowing blue and green mana crystals. The rain had returned by midnight, turning into a heavy, freezing downpour that battered the industrial docks on the north side of the city. The entire dock was illuminated by massive floodlights mounted on tall poles, casting stark yellow glare over rows of stacked metal containers.Six heavily armed guards wearing black raincoats over tactical body armor walked steady patrol routes around a specific blue container near the center of the yard. On their shoulders, embroidered clearly in silver thread, was the logo of the Serpent Syndicate: a coiled snake wrapped around a cracked globe."That blue container," Noah whispered, h

She looked down at her hands, completely mesmerized. Gentle, bright golden sparks danced effortlessly across her knuckles, casting a warm glow over her face. There was no agony, no tearing sensation, and no burning of her skin—only a deep, comforting heat pulsing steadily in her chest like a second heart."This... this doesn't make any sense," Sarah whispered, her voice trembling with a mix of shock and wonder. She looked from her glowing hands up to Noah, her amber eyes wide. "That rock was exploding. I felt my lungs burning... I thought I was going to die.
