Chapter 2

"What are you doing here Jared?" Elena asked instead of her apologizing to her husband for humiliating and hurting him by cheating on him with his boss.

"I should ask you what you are doing here, please don't tell me you have been having sex with my boss behind my back. Please tell me this is not true Elena" Jared said feeling so betrayed trying to control the tears that had filled up his eyes.

"You good for nothing slave. I told you to deliver this package by three o'clock and this is past four already" Andrews said, ignoring the fact that Jared had caught him with his wife.

"Answer me Elena! What are you doing here, I thought… you said you had a meeting this morning" Jared said raising his voice with all the strength he had in him as he felt like his world was shattering and his heart was on fire.

"Don't you dare raise your voice at her!Don't forget you are here to beg for your salary and I can decide not to give it to you so watch your mouth" Andrews said.

"Oh, you are here to beg… I guess it's for your poor and sick godmother and you dare to ask me why I am cheating? You useless bastard. Tell me one thing you have added to my life since I got married to you. I have been the one feeding your wretched poor and filthy ass!" Elena said feeling more egocentric and on top of the world.

"Get in right now before you create a scene here!" Andrew said as he dragged Jared into the room.

"How…how could you?How could you do this to me, Elena? You know how hard I have been working and you also know of my godmother's health status and you still Betrayed me by sleeping with my boss" Jared said hoping that all these would be one of those nightmares and Elena would just apologize and tell him everything is a lie that none of it is true.

"Can you imagine the shameless words coming out of your mouth Jared? How dare you question me? Have you forgotten your status or should I remind you?, You are nothing but a begger Jared!" Elena said as she spat on Jared.

"Babe, just calm down. I will deal with him" Andrew said as he kissed Elena right in Jared's presence.

"You destitute fool, listen to me attentively as I will not be repeating myself. Whatever and all you have seen here today should die with you, the day you open your mouth to tell another living soul. That's the day you will die! I can easily kill you and no one will care about you."

"So, if you value your wretched life and that of your godmother, you better keep your mouth shut. Do you understand me?" Andrew said as he held Jared by his fist piercing through his skin and hurting him in the process.

"Did you hear what he said, Jared?" Elena added.

"Please Elena, you know I love you. Don't do this to me". Jared said begging and hoping Elena would have a change of heart.

"Don't you dare call my name Jared, you are mad and you are completely out of your senses!" Elena resorted.

"I will make you pay for hurting me Elena, mark my words!" Jared said.

"And how do you intend to do that? No one will believe you… all I have to do is tell my parents I am no longer interested in you and boom!.... It's finished. They will inflict so much suffering on you that you would rather beg for death" Elena said boastfully.

"From today henceforth, you will do as I say otherwise your godmother is dead. Do you understand me?" Elena said, shouting at him.

"He has no choice, all I have to do is make one call and your wretched mother is dead," Andrews added.

Jared knew he had no choice, for the sake of his godmother he had to dance to their tune even though his heart was bleeding.

"I will do as you say," Jared said as the words felt so heavy coming out of his mouth.

"Good boy, I knew you would listen. It's not like you have any choice and last I checked you are shameless" Elena said.

"So, Andrew love, give him the money to go see his godmother, and in exchange you will keep your mouth permanently shut! Do you understand me?" Elena said.

"Yes, I understand," Jared responded.

Andrew picked up the two hundred dollars from the wardrobe and threw it at Jared.

"Take this money and get lost forever!" Andrews yelled.

Jared picked up the money and turned back as he was about to leave the room.

"Hey you bastard, you should get home on time. Don't forget you have heaps of work to do for tomorrow's anniversary" Elena said as she laughed wickedly.

Jared walked out hurriedly trying to control his emotions as he stormed out and slammed the front gate behind him. Outside, the cool evening air hit him like a wave and he took a deep breath trying to calm himself down. 

He couldn't believe that his wife whom he loved dearly cheated on him with his boss and there was absolutely nothing he could do about it because his godmother's life depended on it.

Heading to the hospital to see his godmother, the whole event felt like a pinch to his gut and he didn't know how he was going to handle it or get over it. 

Arriving at the hospital, Jared went straight to the doctor to give her the money for the treatment.

"Doctor, I am so sorry I am late. This is the money for the treatment" Jared said, bringing out the two hundred dollars from his pocket.

The doctor's expression was one Jared could not explain. He did not know what to make out of his expression.

"Doctor, what's wrong?" Jared asked worriedly.

"We are sorry Mr Jared, your godmother's condition has worsened. She is diagnosed with cancer…. Something we were hoping would not happen. Now we need one million dollars to operate on her before it's too late" the doctor said.

Jared was shocked to hear what the doctor just said. Where would he get one million dollars to save his godmother's life? He knew the Harrington's would not give him such an amount and he had just two hundred dollars with him.

"Doctor please tell me this is not happening please doctor do something I don't have that amount, what will I do now doctor help me?" Jared said pleading with the doctor to do something.

"I'm sorry Mr Jared, there's nothing I can do, you have to bring the money as soon as possible. She has just limited time left" the doctor said as she walked out of Mr Jared.

Jared went in to see his godmother as he saw her lay down on the bed looking helpless, he couldn't help but feel pain knowing his godmother would die if he failed to provide the money as soon as possible.

 "Mother, I promise you I will do all I can to raise the money for you," Jared said as he squeezed her hand gently.

Has Jared walked down the streets not paying attention to where he was going as different thoughts crossed his mind as to where he could raise the money?

 Still hurt from the pain of Elena and Andrew's betrayal, he knew he had to focus on his godmother now. Lost in his deep thought, Jared remembered the Harrington would be having their tenth business anniversary the next day.

 Mr. and Mrs. Harrington would be in a good mood as different investors would come to attend the party and invest in their businesses, Jared saw it as an opportunity to get them to help him pay his godmother's hospital bills.

"I will do anything to save my godmother even if it means losing my pride and dignity," Jared said as he approached the Harrington mansion.
