Chapter Twelve

“4 dollars for an hour or you can go” said Mr James, even though the money was really really small. It was better than nothing and Elijah wanted to look for an opportunity to leave the Clinton’s Estate so he took the job.

“Hey garbage boy, make sure you wash the toilets and scrub the entire floor when you're done delivering that coffee,”she said.

The girl is really young and just finished high school at 18 years old but she is very rude and looks down on the staff because her father is Mr James.

“I’m not a garbage boy ,I have a name and it’s Elijah” Elijah told the girl but she rolled her eyes at him.

“You should be lucky I am calling you trash instead of a bastard!” The girl said rudely in front of the customers and they all turned to give Elijah a disgusted look.

“You should learn to be respectful and I’m not a bastard because I have a father“ Elijah said but the girl rolled her eyes

“This state is a small town and do you think we don’t know that your father disowned you when your mother died because you’re a shame and the biggest scandal to the William’s family ? Better don’t talk back to me because my father will sack you from this job , I don't think anyone would like to hire such an unfortunate person like you . What if you’re bad luck to them?”Mr James' daughter said while rolling her eyes at Elijah.

She is just as rude as her father , Elijah was too stunned to speak , he has only worked for a single day and he was tired of working at this coffee shop but then he tried looking for other jobs and he couldn’t find any. No one wants to hire him and he needs his daily 4 dollars to survive but the insults were getting too much to bear.

Elijah tried his best to control himself , he bent down to pick up the hefty boxes for delivery and decided to ignore the girl but she intentionally dropped the cup of coffee she was drinking from on the way which made Elijah slip and fall flat on the ground.

Instead of the people in the luxury coffee shop sympathizing with him, they all started laughing. Elijah felt so ashamed but he still had no other choice but to stand up and mop the area.

“You’re lucky that you’re a lady , I would have taught you a lesson” Elijah warned while mopping the mess.

Elijah finished his delivery work late at night and was heading back to the Clinton’s family where he lived for the meantime with his wife when he felt like a shady and suspicious black tinted SUV cars were following him behind.

Elijah kept making turns and corners and he noticed that the car was still following him ,he was smart enough to know that the men were intentionally trying to either harm him or kidnap him.

The convoy of black-tinted SUVs trailed him from a distance, their engines purring ominously. The night had just taken an unsettling turn.

Elijah's pace quickened, sensing an unspoken danger inching closer. His heart pounded against his chest like a captive bird desperate to break free. The familiar surroundings now felt unfamiliar, as if the city itself had transformed into a sinister labyrinth.

With each hurried and desperate step, Elijah's senses heightened and his heart beats faster. He stole glances over his shoulder, catching fleeting glimpses of the mysterious vehicles following his every move.

They seemed to glide through the night, silent and swift, like phantoms in pursuit of their prey.

Fear crept into Elijah's veins, but he refused to succumb to its paralyzing grip. He darted into narrower alleys, hoping to shake off his pursuers, but they matched his every turn with an eerie precision. The city's labyrinth tightened around him, offering no escape.

“What did I do ? Who are these people and why are they after me ?” Elijah kept whispering , sweat breaking down on his entire body

“I don’t want to die , damn it and they are too much. I don’t think I can fight all of them …” Elijah hissed out of frustration

As Elijah reached a desolate square, the SUVs abruptly halted, surrounding him in a tight formation. Their imposing presence sent a chill down his spine, his breath now shallow and ragged. Panic welled up inside him, threatening to consume his very being.

The car doors swung open, and dark figures emerged, their faces hidden beneath shadowy hoods. They moved with a predatory grace, encircling Elijah like a pack of wolves closing in on their prey. The night air crackled with an electric tension, and Elijah knew that he stood in the middle of something really dangerous.

“Damn it ! What should I do ?!” Elijah whispered to himself while he kept looking around the dark night hoping he will see a police or someone that can help him.

“You got the wrong person “ Elijah shouted at the men as they kept moving towards him , they all looked big , hefty and dangerous . Some even had large knife and bullet scars on their body , some had dangerous looking tattoos.

The men kept walking towards him as they all came down from the car , they were more than 30 in number.

Elijah cleaned his eyes just to make sure that this is not some kind of dream but his fear got worse when he opened his eyes and saw Godfather Roberto walking in front and leading the men behind him.

“Oh for goodness sake! I gave you the damn ring , what do you want from me again?!” Elijah shouted in frustration before raising his hands in surrender. He didn’t borrow money or cross paths with this dangerous and mysterious elderly man but the man keeps appearing before him.

“I am so sorry for the inconvenience, please forgive me “ Godfather Roberto said which shocked Elijah because that was not what he was expecting to hear.

“Uhmm, what did you say?” Elijah asked, just to make sure that he wasn’t hearing or imagining things.

“We are sorry BOSS” everyone chorused before bowing down at Elijah’s feet.
