“After the divorce, I guess this is all I will have left.”

Christopher Norton pushed open the door of his old house and stepped inside.

He hadn't lived here for years. With only two days left before the divorce cooling-off period ended, he had come back to clean the place up. Once the divorce was finalized, he would move back here and start over.

He set the cleaning supplies on the floor and looked around.

The house was exactly as he remembered it..quiet, dusty, and filled with things that had been left untouched for years.

Christopher rolled up his sleeves and began clearing away the clutter.

Most of his money had gone somewhere else, debt, household expenses, bills. For years, Christopher had lived as though every dollar in his pocket already belonged to someone else.

He opened the wardrobe and began putting his clothes inside, arranging the few things he planned to bring back once he moved in.

His fingers stopped on a worn-out work shirt. The sleeves had thinned from years of use. Christopher looked at it for a moment and gave a faint, bitter smile.

A month ago, Mary had placed divorce papers in front of him.

“I don’t want our son carrying your debt for the rest of his life.” those were her last words as Christopher had stared at her. After ten minutes of silence, he signed.

The new house went to Mary. She had the documents in her possession and claimed it was for their son, leaving Christopher with no choice but to let her keep it.

He was left with the old apartment. At the time, it had seemed like a clean break. At least, that was what he had believed.

Christopher walked around his house as he turned toward an old desk near the window. His laptop sat underneath a pile of unused papers. He picked it up and wiped away the dust.

As he moved it, something rattled inside the old laptop bag beneath it. He frowned, opened the bag, and a few charging cables fell out. Then he saw a small black USB drive.

He picked it up and turned it over slowly. Christopher frowned, “I can’t remember ever owning this. "

He almost threw it aside in frustration. “Forget it… it’s probably just junk.”

Yet instead of discarding it, he hesitated, then plugged it into the laptop. He saw a file named 'crypto wallet' He opened it as he saw a long string of letters and numbers filled the screen. It looked like a private key.

At the bottom was a short message: “Thanks for saving my brother...Don’t sell too early.”

Curiosity got the better of him. He copied the key and entered it into a cryptocurrency wallet. The page loaded as Christopher froze on seeing it.

5,000 BTC. He refreshed the page it was still there.

“One Bitcoin is already estimated to be two hundred thousand dollars… and five thousand of them… Damn! that’s more than a billion dollars…”

“What the hell?” Christopher leaned closer to the screen. His hand began to tremble. Then his eyes moved back to the USB drive. Something about it suddenly felt familiar.

“Wait…” He turned it over. “Daniel?”

Back in high school, one desperate night, his friend Daniel had come rushing over, asking to borrow a thousand dollars. A local gang was threatening his family and trying to pull them into drugs. The money was meant to pay them off.

Before leaving, his friend pressed a USB drive into Christopher’s hand.

“Keep this,” he said. “If I can’t pay you back, whatever’s inside will serve as collateral.”

Later that very night, his friend bought an illegal gun through private channels, shot and killed the man threatening his family, and lost his own life in the shootout.

Christopher looked at the laptop again.

“Fifteen years… one thousand dollars… and this is what he left me?”

His voice was barely a whisper. He leaned closer, eyes locked on the number as if it might vanish.

“Five thousand Bitcoin. More than a billion dollars. Sitting in a forgotten USB for fifteen years… while I was drowning in debt.”

He let out a short, disbelieving laugh that quickly died in his throat.

“Daniel, you crazy bastard… you actually did it. You paid me back a thousand times over… and I never even knew.”

His hands were shaking now. He pressed his palms against his face, then dragged them down slowly.

“All those years… scraping for every dollar… and the answer was sitting in a drawer the whole time.”

He had tumbled from a wealthy young heir to the brink of homelessness. Since then, he had worked multiple jobs every single day to pay off his parents’ massive debts while still ensuring his wife and household were provided for...now he had barely anything for himself.

Overwhelmed with excitement, Christopher grabbed his keys and muttered, “I’m taking my son back.”

He got into his old 2009 Toyota Camry and drove straight to their son’s school. Mary had said that morning she would be picking the boy up, and he wanted to tell them in person that they didn’t need to divorce anymore.

When Christopher arrived at the school gates, he saw Mary and their son already waiting outside. Just as he was about to get out of the car, a man in a suit walked up to them. His son ran forward and called the man “Daddy!”

Mary smiled at the man. “You’re early.”

The man chuckled. “I couldn’t wait. Did you miss me?”

“Always,” she replied softly, resting a hand on their son’s shoulder.

The boy looked up at him. “Are you taking us home today?”

“I am.”

“Then can I sleep at your house tonight? The man smiled. “If your mom says yes.”

The boy turned to Mary excitedly. “Mommy, can I?”

Mary smiled. “Yes, you can.” The boy leaned against the man’s side. “Can I call you Daddy all the time now?”

Mary gently touched his head. “Yes, sweetheart.”

Christopher froze, his hand still on the car door handle. He had heard his son call him “Dad” countless times over the years, but hearing him ask another man if he could call him “Daddy” made something inside him break. His eyes slowly reddened as he lowered his head, refusing to let the tears fall.

The man then turned to Mary. “Have you taken care of things on that end yet?”

“Oh, I almost forgot,” she said, pulling out her phone. A second later, Christopher’s phone began to ring.

The door closed. The convoy pulled away from the terminal.Christopher leaned back against the leather seat and looked out the window.Switzerland looked different from everything he knew back home. The roads were clean, the buildings orderly, and even the traffic seemed quieter. But he wasn't interested in sightseeing. The woman across from him had introduced herself at the airport as Helena Brandt, the CEO of the company Lora had arranged to work with. He still knew almost nothing about her. She had been calm when she greeted him. Lora sat beside him, scrolling through her phone. The convoy left the airport area and entered the city as Helena finally spoke."Mr. Norton, I must discuss an important matter with you, and I would prefer not to wait until tomorrow.""Go ahead. After fourteen hours on a plane, I doubt anything will surprise me.""It concerns my company." She folded her hands on her lap. "I wish to present an investment proposal to you, and I would like you to hear it fro

The new car felt completely different under his hands. For years Christopher had driven a 2009 Camry that was barely holding together... rattling engine, torn seat, battery that died every winter. He had kept fixing it simply because he had no other choice. Now the red Lamborghini Urus moved smooth and quiet under his control. He felt no real excitement about the car itself.‘Having money really does change everything,’ he thought. ‘A year ago I couldn’t even dream of sitting in something like this. Now it’s just another tool. What matters is what I’m going to do with it.’He glanced at the time. School would be finishing soon. After a moment’s thought, he turned the car toward the school gates. He hadn’t planned on picking the boy up himself, but after everything that had happened, he decided it was better if he did.A few minutes later the gates opened. Parents and drivers gathered along the curb. Children poured out with backpacks. Several heads turned toward the red Urus. A fath

He placed the documents on the counter. The lender went through them one by one, comparing the names, the dates, and the descriptions of the pieces. He looked at Christopher again, still cautious.“Alright. The papers match. But I still don’t do this kind of loan without the owner present most of the time.”“I understand,” Christopher said. “I’m only asking for a short-term amount against them. Thirty days.”The lender ran some numbers on a calculator, then looked up with a thin smile.“Appraised value is about ninety thousand. Looking at the market right now, I can do twenty-eight thousand. Take it or leave it.”Christopher didn’t move. “Twenty-eight is too low. The appraisal is clear. Even at fifty percent you’re still under.”The lender shrugged. “That’s the offer. You don’t look like someone who has a lot of options.”“I have the documents. The pieces are clean. Forty-five thousand is fair.”The lender let out a short laugh. “Forty-five? You’re dreaming. Thirty. Final.”Christophe

“Stop the divorce first. Get the house back. Recover every dollar I put into her and the kid over the last five years. Then make sure she pays for the years she lied to me.”Ryan studied him carefully. He recognized that locked-down tone — the same one Christopher had used years ago when the family company collapsed and he refused to show how badly it had hit him.“Pushing criminal charges for the affair won’t get you far,” Ryan said. “Courts treat that as a private issue unless you can prove they were openly living as a couple...shared address, neighbors confirming it, joint accounts, that sort of hard proof. Most cases like that get thrown out.”He paused, then continued more deliberately.“What you 'can' do is file a civil claim for the money. You raised a child under false pretenses. That opens the door to recovering the support payments, school fees, medical costs...everything you spent because you believed he was yours. You can also claim compensation for the deception itself. Christopher turned and walked toward the stairs. Behind him, Mary remained frozen on the sofa. She had thought the divorce was already in her hands. Now it had suddenly slipped away.Mary stood frozen on the sofa for a few seconds after Christopher walked past her. She hadn’t seen him act this confident and firm in a long time, and it caught her off guard.“Christopher… what exactly are you trying to do?” she asked, her voice tighter than she intended. He paused at the foot of the stairs and glanced back at her. “You’ll find out soon enough.”Mary’s expression hardened. “You’ve been acting strange since yesterday. If this is another one of your moods, don’t take it out on us. You’ve already neglected his development enough over the years. The least you can do is not make things worse now.”The boy, still standing near the sofa, stared at him with wide, confused eyes. “Where are you going?”Christopher gave him only a brief, dismissive look. “Go play. This doesn’t concern you.”Without

The investigator leaned forward and looked at the photo of the man standing outside the school. Christopher slid a small piece of paper across the desk next to the phone.“Plate number 47 XKD. Red Lamborghini Urus" The investigator glanced at the paper, then back at Christopher.“I want everything you can find on him. Full background. Where he works. Where he lives. Who he sees.” Christopher’s voice stayed flat.“There’s one more name. Mary. That’s my wife. Pull whatever you can on her accounts and her messages. Especially anything that ties her to this man.”The investigator sat back and studied him for a few seconds.“How fast do you need it?”“Tonight if possible.” The man held up two fingers.“Two thousand dollars will be okay to start. The rest depends on how deep it goes.”Christopher took out his card, paid, and stood up. He was already at the door when the investigator spoke again.“Most people who come in here for this kind of thing regret it later.”Christopher didn’t turn
