Almero's hand, holding his phone, suddenly trembled violently. From behind him, footsteps could be heard approaching. His heart pounded, and his face turned almost pale.
Almero tried to control his breathing before turning to the source of the voice. He saw a security guard had just stopped in front of him, and his probing gaze made his heart race even faster.
"Why didn't you answer me?" he asked sharply. "Why were you standing here all this time?" he continued, noticing Almero's uniform.
"I was working, sir, and your scream startled me," Almero said in a calm voice.
"What kind of work makes you hide behind a pillar, like you're doing something suspicious?" asked the security guard, not immediately believing what the man in front of him was saying.
"My superior asked me to check the broken parking lot lights," Almero said, showing his phone to the security guard.
Silence.
The security guard didn't answer immediately, but instead, he observed Almero's movements. Just as he was about to speak, his colleague's voice came from the communication device on his waist.
Almero breathed a sigh of relief after overhearing the security guard's conversation with his colleague, and the man would soon be leaving for more pressing matters.
"Okay, I trust you this time, but don't act so suspiciously next time," he advised Almero.
"Okay, sir. I'll keep that in mind," Almero said politely.
"Okay, then, get on with your work." After speaking, the security guard hurriedly walked away.
Almero breathed a sigh of relief as he rubbed his chest. If only the security guard hadn't believed him and insisted on checking his phone, his lies would have been exposed. But luckily, luck was on his side. Almero quickly tucked his phone into his pocket and resumed his cleaning work.
That afternoon.
He had just parked his electric scooter in the Xander family's yard when he saw Senna sitting in the yard. The middle-aged woman immediately got up and walked over to Almero.
"Son, have you had lunch yet?" she asked with a sad look.
"Yes, ma'am," Almero replied curtly.
"Where did you eat? From that street vendor?" Senna asked curiously, and Almero nodded. "Didn't my husband give you money? You can eat at a restaurant without having to be frugal. If the money he gave you isn't enough, I'll ask him for more," Senna said, looking at Almero.
"Mr. Valton's money is more than enough," Almero said quickly, afraid Senna might misunderstand. "It doesn't matter where you eat, the most important thing is that your stomach is full," Almero explained politely.
Senna looked at Almero wistfully and then reached out to caress her future son-in-law's cheek. "You must have had a very difficult life before you came to this house."
Almero simply nodded in response, her wistful gaze warming his heart. He knew that Senna treated him very well, even treating him like her own son. Almero had never received affection while living in the Greysoon family home, but who would have thought that affection would come from them—the people who wanted to make him part of Xander's family.
"Almero, you're home," said Valton, who happened to be leaving the house. "Come to my office now," he continued casually.
"Can't you see he just got home from work, he hasn't even eaten or drunk anything, and you immediately asked him to follow you to the office," Senna grumbled to her husband. "Let him taste my cake first before heading to your office, honey," Senna continued to her husband.
Valton could only scratch his head when he saw his wife's assertive attitude, and he also knew that Senna desperately wanted a son. And they had agreed to treat Almero the same way they treated Edeline.
"I have no problem going straight to Mr. Valton's study," Almero said. He was self-aware of his position in the house.
"Come on, son. Try your mother's cake first, and then come to my office after you've cleaned up," Valton said, looking at Almero.
Almero's eyes welled up with tears when he heard the man call him "son," and his wistful gaze truly made him feel like he had a father figure. Even the Greyson family had never shown him this kind of warmth.
Valton's study.
"Does your mother's cake suit your palate?" Valton asked after Almero sat down in front of him.
"It tasted absolutely delicious, and it's the first time anyone has given me cake," Almero said with a faint smile, but his eyes showed suppressed anguish.
"Didn't any of the Greysoon family give you cake?" Valton asked, staring deeply into Almero's eyes.
"No," Almero said with a bitter smile.
Almero didn't want to discuss the matter, so he quickly handed him his phone to change the conversation. The more Almero remembered how the Greysoon family members had treated him, the more his heart grew sad and angry.
"I managed to record Yoe leaving his room and heading to the parking lot," Almero said. "I don't know who was in the car, but I clearly captured the license plate," Almero said matter-of-factly.
Valton fell silent, his eyes still focused on the recording on Almero's phone screen. His eyes sharpened as he watched Yoe load the suitcase into the car. His jaw clenched, then he let out a harsh grunt before finally focusing on Almero.
"I'll have my men check the license plate," Valton said, then reached for his cell phone.
"Find information on the owner of this vehicle," Valton said after the call connected with his trusted aide.
"Yes, sir. I'll send the information via text message."
After hearing the aide's response, Valton immediately ended the call. A few seconds later, a message from Valton's trusted aide arrived, but it wasn't the information he wanted, but rather one stating that the license plate was fake.
"Damn it!" Valton cursed, slamming his fist on the table in anger.
"What's wrong, sir?" Almero asked, shocked.
"The license plate is fake," he hissed, his face flushing red. "They're being very careful," he continued, his jaw clenched.
"While we pause this investigation, don't do anything until I interrupt you, because I don't want to endanger you," Valton said sincerely.
"Yes, sir," Almero replied obediently, and after speaking, he quickly left the room.
Almero swallowed his saliva after realizing that the people involved in the embezzlement of company funds were not ordinary people and they could be people heard by Mr. Valton himself, but Almero did not dare to say this before having real evidence.

Almero stared blankly at the woman's face, which suddenly turned sour upon seeing him. Her sharp eyes dimmed slightly as she realized that the man had saved her from the brink of death. First Evidence
Jeff had just returned to the company, throwing his work files onto the table with a furious expression. He roughly opened the bottle of wine and then gulped down its contents greedily."Damn Almero! That bastard, how dare he embarrass me in front of so many people," he said, breathing heavily with anger. "Does he think I'll just stay quiet? Of course not, I'll make him go back to scavenging for used bottles on the side of the road," he said, glaring at the door.A middle-aged man immediately entered the room, his face tense as he realized he'd arrived at the wrong time. Just one look at him revealed that Jeff was in a bad mood."What's wrong?" Jeff snapped suddenly, targeting the man."The master couldn't reach you, so Master Okan asked me to ask you about..." Jeff, already irritated, interrupted impatiently. "Xander's company assistant has an urgent matter, so I haven't seen him yet," Jeff lied, deliberately trying to keep his father from getting angry when he found out he'd left w
The Secret Behind the Plan
This afternoon, Almero and Valton sat on the sofa next to the Xander family home. It was a comfortable family retreat, with the scent of flowers wafting in the breeze."Somehow, I feel like Mr. Valton has another agenda behind this marriage," Almero said firmly. "If he didn't have a plan, how could he have chosen me as his son-in-law?" he continued, watching Mr. Valton closely.Mr. Valton wasn't surprised by what Almero had said. He knew this man had strong instincts."You are very observant, and that's why I chose you to be my daughter's companion," he said firmly. "I've asked my men to investigate everything about you, and you're simply a victim in the embezzlement of company funds," he continued."You must already know why I didn't refuse the marriage with Miss Edeline," Almero said matter-of-factly.Almero now knew that the Xander family was one of the most influential families in the country, even far above the Greysoon family. After considering all this, Almero had no reason to
Unexpected Help
Almero opened his eyes and looked around, finding the room strangely familiar. He slowly sat up and recalled the events of the previous night, when he had saved a woman who had been in an accident. The sound of a door creaking interrupted his reverie. He saw a middle-aged woman, whom he believed to be a servant, walking towards him carrying a tray."Where am I now?" Almero asked after the woman placed the tray on the table."You are at the Xander family residence, sir..." the servant replied politely."The Xander family," Almero said, repeating what the servant had said with a frown."Yes, sir," the servant said."Last night I fainted while saving a woman, but how come I'm suddenly here?" Almero asked, still confused."The person you saved yesterday was none other than Miss Edeline, Mr. Valton's only daughter," the servant replied."Can I see Mr. Valton now?" Almero asked, lowering his legs from the bed."Of course, I'll take you to meet Mr. Valton, but after you've finished breakfast

The scorching sun was starting to burn his skin, but that didn't stop Almero from continuing to rummage through the trash, looking for anything he could sell. He ignored the pungent smell of the garbage, as the most important thing now was earning money to buy food.Almero had tried applying for jobs at every company, but none would hire him; they all said they no longer needed additional employees. This was despite the fact that they clearly stated on the company's gate that they needed additional employees. Eventually, Almero learned that the reason why all the companies he visited wouldn't hire him was none other than pressure from the Greysoon family. His former foster family had threatened to harass any company that hired him."Isn't that Almero, the former foster child of the Greysoon family?" a beautiful woman asked her boyfriend."Yes, that's right. His fate is very sad. Who told him to betray the Greysoon family, and now he's homeless?" the blond man said to his girlfriend wi
