Valentina Russo didnt sleep that night.

Not because of fear, but because of possibility.

Jason Moretti, the Ghost, had stormed into her life like a hurricane with a ledger full of secrets and eyes that burned hotter than any threat shed ever faced. And for the first time in years, she wasnt just part of someone elses plan.

She was standing on the edge of one of her own.

The folder hed given her was now hidden beneath her bed, unread by anyone else. Not even her most trusted guards knew it existed.

Because if her father found out…

Shed be dead before the wedding veil ever touched her head.

Downtown – The Vault

Jason stood in front of a glowing screen, eyes scanning a 3D model of the Russo estate. Mila leaned back in her chair, arms crossed, chewing gum.

So, let me get this straight, she said. Youre trying to steal a Russo heiress from under her fathers nose, crash a billion-dollar mafia alliance, and take over New Yorks underworld… all in one month?

Jason smirked. Two weeks.

Mila whistled low. Youre out of your mind.

Thats why itll work.

Vin entered, tossing a burner phone onto the table. Intercepted communication. Luciano Morettis onto you. Hes doubling security on all his properties.

Jason didnt flinch. Hell need an army.

Mila raised an eyebrow. Youve got three people.

Jason tapped the screen. Not for long.

Three Hours Later – Abandoned Cathedral, East Harlem

Jason walked through the crumbling archway of a forgotten church, now converted into a secret battleground. Smoke, steel, and muscle filled the air. Men sparred in the open nave. Guns were cleaned on pews. This was neutral ground where mafia exiles, mercs, and freelancers made deals without bloodshed.

And at the center of it all stood Enzo Black, a former enforcer turned rogue underboss. Towering, scarred, and vicious.

He grinned when he saw Jason. So, the boy they threw out grew up.

Jason extended his hand. I have a proposition.

Enzo shook it. Make it fast. I charge by the hour.

Jason laid down a thick envelope. Ten grand now. Fifty more when the jobs done.

Enzos eyes narrowed. Whats the job?

Jason leaned close. I want to know everythingthe Morettis are hiding. And when the time comes, I want twenty loyal men ready to lock the city down street by street.

Enzo whistled. Thats not a job. Thats a war.

Jason smiled coldly. No. Its a takeover.

Enzo studied him for a long moment. Then he nodded. You got the blood in your eyes. Just dont forget, bloods easy to spill. Hard to clean.

Back at the Russo Estate – Valentinas Private Balcony

Valentina sat wrapped in a silk robe, staring over the city. Her phone buzzed once. A single message from an unknown number.

Tomorrow. 9PM. Luna Blu rooftop. Alone. Bring the flash drive.

—J.

She stared at it, heart pounding.

There was no fear. Only the pulse of adrenaline.

The Next Night – Luna Blu Rooftop

Valentina arrived precisely at 9PM, heels clicking against the stone. The city lights glittered below like stars had fallen onto concrete.

Jason stood by the railing, dark suit crisp, glass of scotch in hand.

You came,he said without turning.

Valentina stopped beside him. Of course I did. Im not afraid of you.

He finally turned to face her. Good. Because if we do this, theres no turning back.

She handed him the flash drive. Im already in.

Jason slid the drive into a device hidden in his jacket. Data flickered across a small screen on his wrist.

Encrypted. Triple-layered, he muttered.

I figured youd enjoy a challenge.

Jason looked at her.

Not just her face, but her.

The fierce posture. The sharp mind behind her steady gaze. The storm underneath the silence.

You know, he said, I used to think power was about fear. Making people flinch when you walked in.

And now?

He stepped closer, voice low. Now I know power is about silence. The kind that follows after youve rewritten all the rules.

Their faces were inches apart.

Valentina didnt move away. Then what do you want from me, Jason?

He stared at her. I want your loyalty.

And what if I want more than that?

Jasons breath caught.

But before he could respond, a bullet shattered the wine glass on the table beside them.

GET DOWN!he shouted, tackling her behind a pillar.

Silencers hissed in the dark. At least three shooters.

Jason pulled a Glock from his jacket and fired back without hesitation. One shadow crumpled.

Valentina rolled behind a bar, pulled a small pistol from her clutch. You came unprepared?

I wasnt expecting a full damn ambush!

Then you dont know my father.

Jason scowled. Were leaving. Now.

He grabbed her hand, and together they made for the back staircase. As gunfire echoed across the rooftop, the unlikely pair disappeared into the night, alive, breathless, and bound by blood.

Later – Safehouse, SoHo

Valentina slammed the door behind her. They tried to kill me.

Jason holstered his gun. Correction: they tried to kill me. You were collateral.

Valentina paced. My father must have found out about the meeting. Hes testing me.

Jason studied her. And how do you feel about failing that test?

She stopped, turned, eyes blazing. I dont fail.

He stepped closer. Then help me end this.

Her voice dropped to a whisper. How?

Jason pulled a small velvet box from his coat pocket and opened it.

Inside was a platinum ring.

Fake engagement,he said. You stay close to me. Publicly. We throw the families off balance. Then we hit them where it hurts.

Valentinas mouth parted. You want to pretend to be engaged?

Unless youd rather be married off for real in five days.

She stared at the ring.

Then slid it onto her finger.

Fine, she said. But one thing, Jason…

What?

If were faking it, dont fall for me.

Jasons smirk faded.

Too late.
