“I was thinking I would work a few more months, add to the money the Blackwood already gave us. That way, I can buy a proper house somewhere decent and somewhere I can finally give my children the life I promised them when I left the village.”

As God’s Time finished speaking, he lowered his gaze, avoiding Xavier’s expression as anxiety crawled up his spine.

'What if he thinks I’m stalling? Or trying to dodge responsibility?' The thought burned into his mind like acid. ‘What if he believes I lied just to keep my kids away?’

But then…

Xavier smiled, the same rare, inexplicably reassuring smile.

“I understand your dilemma,” he said, nodding his head. “How about this? Once you’re feeling a bit stronger, you and your wife can go find your dream house. Pick anywhere and anywhere. I’ll pay for it upfront.”

God’s Time’s breath caught in his throat.

“But…” Xavier continued before the man could interrupt, “I’ll deduct five percent of your salary every month until you finish paying me back. No interest and no pressure.”

And then… silence.

Once again, that crushing silence fell over the couple… so thick it felt like time had stopped and the universe itself was holding its breath, like some cruel cosmic joke they couldn’t begin to understand.

It lasted for several seconds. Then Selene let out a noise… something between a gasp and a hiccup, and her body shook violently.

God’s Time, on the other hand, opened his mouth, but no words came out.

Instead, he just stared at Xavier as if he had grown a halo and wings.

Then it happened…

The couple erupted… not gently, not delicately, but with the force of a full-blown, meltdown-level emotional explosion.

Selene let out a wail so raw that if not for the soundproofed ward, a neighbor three blocks away would probably clutch her chest and say, “Someone’s winning a lottery over there.”

Tears gushed from her face like two rivers having a breakdown.

God’s Time gripped his own skull with both hands, shaking it furiously like he was trying to make sure this wasn’t a hallucination brought on by his injury.

They broke down into sobs again... raw, heaving, and chest-wracking cries that cared nothing for dignity or how you looked. It was grief, joy, relief, and disbelief all colliding in one overwhelming emotional outburst.

Their dream of owning a home had quietly died a long time ago, buried under debts, and forgotten in the endless grind.

God’s Time had chosen that name for himself because he genuinely believed in the saying, “God’s time is the best.” It was the reason he had never done anything illegal... because he trusted that when the time was right, everything would fall into place.

But with how life had unraveled for him and his wife, especially since they reached the city, that belief had withered. And he had stopped seeing the saying as faith, just a comforting fantasy that never came true.

Yet here… here someone has not just offered to resurrect that dream and fate, but is offering a lifeline to reach it without chains attached.

They dropped to their knees again before Xavier could even stop them, their hands clutched together as if in prayer, as they thanked him repeatedly, each gratitude louder and wetter than the last.

“Thank you, Master!”

“Thank you, sir!”

“May heaven build you a golden mansion in this life and the next!”

Xavier ran a hand over his face.

It was clear he was starting to lose the battle with his own patience.

He waved a hand. “Alright, alright, that’s enough. Please, I’m going to develop a headache if you both keep crying like this. I’m serious.”

But the couple didn’t stop... they couldn’t.

They wept like toddlers being handed ice cream after a lifetime of watching it melt in other people’s hands.

Finally, amidst the emotional wreckage, God’s Time raised his trembling head and said, “Master, I promise you with every drop of blood in my veins, I will never let you regret this. Never. I’ll work harder than anyone. I’ll be loyal forever, and even if a bullet comes, I’ll throw myself in the way for you without hesitation!”

Xavier, “_”

There was a long pause, then he blinked once, twice, and…

Very slowly, he rolled his eyes in exaggerated disbelief and gave God’s Time a look, like he had just suggested he would wrestle a lion before breakfast.

“First of all,” he said flatly, “you don’t need to call me Master. Xavier is fine.”

His face crumpled into exasperated disbelief.

“And secondly, you don’t need to take any bullets.”

….

  • Chapter 707 – The Banquet

*****The Scoan family estate. It was late… about twenty minutes to eleven, but the place still blazed like a midsummer afternoon. The flood of warm, golden light poured over every path, tree, and building until the shadows themselves seemed to have been banished. If someone didn’t look up at the starless sky and check the time, they might swear it wasn’t night. And tonight, the estate wasn’t just bright… it was dressed to kill.Ribbons, banners, and strings of crystal bulbs coiled up lampposts and looped between branches, making even the trees look overdressed. The main building glittered under layers of embellishments… so many, in fact, that one could reasonably suspect the decorator had been paid per ornament. The parking lot looked like the world’s most expensive auto showroom. Every vehicle gleamed under the lights… hulking SUVs, limited-edition sedans, sleek sports cars with curves that made pedestrians sigh, and limousines long enough to have their own postal code. Not a single

  • Chapter 706 – Grace’s Embarrassment and Inexplicable Feelings

*****Just like that, the silence between the couple continued stretching on until what felt like an eternity. And finally… Xavier’s throat worked, his Adam’s apple bobbing, and down before he muttered, his tone so reverent that it might as well have been a prayer:“So… beautiful.”His voice wasn’t raised or theatrical, no.Instead, it sounded almost as if the words themselves had slipped out of his mouth before he even realized he had spoken them. And that… was the final straw that broke the camel’s back, ultimately sending Grace over the edge.In the next second, her cheeks flushed a furious crimson of red. She nearly wished for the ground to open up and swallow her, then she glanced away so fast she nearly gave herself whiplash.Grace had been looked at before. In fact, often than not, she had been gawked at, admired, praised, and even adored. But has never had this reaction before. She has never gotten such a flutter of butterflies and such a rush of exhilaration that mad

  • Chapter 705 – A Dolled-up Grace

*****At this moment, Grace stood before Xavier, like a divine apparition stepped straight out of an artist’s daydream. She wasn't just beautiful... no, beautiful was the word you used for a sunny day or a perfectly plated dessert. This… this was something else. She was luminous, almost dangerous in her perfection, the kind of sight that could make poets quit mid-verse because they had realized they could never do it justice. Her dress was a pure white evening gown, sleek but not overly revealing, flowing over her curves like it had been spun out of moonlight and stitched together by angels who had nothing better to do.It hugged her waist, flared gently at the hips, and then cascaded to the floor with the slow, liquid grace of a waterfall at dawn. Her hair, which was usually clipped up in that efficient “I’m busy conquering the corporate world” style, was currently gathered in a low, loose bun, with a few deliberate strands curling down to frame her face. It was such a simple s

  • Chapter 704 – Xavier’s Future Plan

*****Ultimately, Xavier clicked his tongue in disbelief. “How can someone be that stingy?” he muttered, shaking his head. Then his eyes drifted back to the almost-empty bag in his hand. Slowly, with deliberate defiance, he plucked out another chip and popped it into his mouth. The crunch was like music. The flavor hit his tongue… salty and tangy.Xavier invited himself to sit in a chair and leaned, savoring the last salty crunch on his tongue like it was the climax of a five-star meal.He let out a satisfied sigh and muttered under his breath, “Now I understand why she almost tried to tear me limb from limb. This stuff is criminally good. This stuff is really worth getting punched for.”His hand dipped back into the bag out of habit… only to find it empty. He stared at the hollow foil pouch as if it had personally betrayed him.“Dang!” he exclaimed, shaking his head. “What’s in this thing? Black magic? How can a snack turn a man into a petty thief in under two minutes?”Still

  • Chapter 703 – A Snack-possessed Dorothy

*****At first, Xavier assumed that Dorothy would only swing at him a few times, and when she failed to land a single blow, she would collapse in exhaustion like a wind-up toy that had run out of batteries. He was completely wrong. So very, very wrong.Dorothy doesn’t slow down at all, and she doesn’t look like she would. Instead, she continued ramping up.Her flailing assault had transformed into a relentless storm, every swipe sharper, and every kick faster, as if she was drawing power from some secret stash of snack-based fury.None of her strikes even grazed the hem of Xavier’s shirt, of course, yet somehow, she looked more energized with each miss, like a video game boss whose health bar refilled every time you failed to hit her.Eventually, Xavier’s eyes widened. “You… you seriously want to end my life over a half-eaten bag of chips?”He backpedaled like his shoes were allergic to her hands.“Half-eaten? Half-eaten?” Dorothy barked mid-lunge, glaring at him as if he had

  • Chapter 702 – The Comical Scene in Dorothy’s Office

*****Having just witnessed such a comical scene, Xavier didn’t just laugh… he detonated. It wasn’t a polite chuckle and not a smug smirk, but a full-blown, spine-shaking eruption of laughter that made the glass walls tremble. The sound rolled through the office like an earthquake in a comedy club.He bent over, clutching his stomach, gasping between bursts. “So… pfft… so funny. You should’ve… hahaha! You should’ve seen your face just now!”It was the laugh of a man who had just watched a goat steal someone’s wedding bouquet. And seeing him like this, Dorothy’s face darkened so quickly it was like watching a storm cloud blot out the sun. Her nostrils flared; she actually snorted.“You…” she spat, finger jabbing toward him like she was about to conduct an exorcism. “Did you want to give me a heart attack?”Xavier only laughed harder, the sound turning into wheezing fits that made him wipe at his eyes. He tried to get control, but every time he glanced at her furious face, the l
