Today was a festive one for the Wellington family. Finally, their daughter was getting engaged to the first son of the Kincaid dynasty, one of the richest families in East City.

Judging from the expensive cars in the parking lot and the armed guards that littered the place, Asher knew that only the top ten percent of East City’s elites were invited to the engagement party.

“Someone just drove into the parking garage in a disgusting, beat up Toyota!” Maria, Scarlett’s youngest cousin, announced to the rest of the family.

Curious, they all trooped out to see who it was. The moment Asher alighted from the smoky car, Mrs. Wellington’s confused expression morphed into anger.

“Asher Deville. What do you think you’re doing in my house?” She sneered.

Asher ignored her harsh tone and the look of disgust in her eyes.

“Good morning to you too…”

“Oh, shut up! How dare you show up at my house?”

Didn’t you understand the annulment agreement that was sent to you? The useless engagement between you and my daughter is over!

If you’ve got even a shred of fucking dignity, then get the hell out!”

Scarlett’s mother stood arms akimbo, eyes blazing daggers at Asher like he was worthless trash.

This is ridiculous, Asher thought. No one ever dared to speak to him in such a disrespectful manner.

“Watch your words, ma’am,” He narrowed his eyes impatiently.

Asher usually wouldn’t bother arguing with a woman, but someone as shameless as her? He didn’t mind showing his claws.

"Looks like you really don’t get it until you’re slapped in the face! Fine, I’ll spell it out for you…

You’re a useless piece of shit. The only reason we ever tolerated you was because that damn mentor of yours could treat Scarlett!

Good thing that crazy old bastard finally passed away—otherwise we’d be stuck dealing with a shameless leech like you for the rest of our lives!

Get the hell out—now! Or when I’m finished with you, you won't be walking out at all.”

Mrs Wellington snapped her fingers and in unison, a dozen men in uniforms turned their heads, eyes cold and menacing as they locked onto Asher.

The atmosphere was stiff and heavy with a sense of danger. Finally, it dawned on Asher that he’d been set up.

"This is what you’ve resorted to? How pathetic!" Asher sneered, his eyes cold enough to freeze the air.

It was as if the next second, his glare would turn into a blade and pin them all to the floor.

His mentor, Grandmaster Caspian, was a world-renowned healer. People threw fortunes at his feet just for a diagnosis. But the ungrateful Wellington family? They lured him in with a fake engagement, tricked him into treating Scarlett—and pushed him to an early grave.

Caspian had studied ancient Eastern medicine his whole life, living by the rule: fate decides life and death. But for Scarlett, because of that damn engagement, he broke every rule to defy death—again and again—until it cost him his own life.

And now these leeches, these parasites, dare to come at him first?

Pathetic. Absolutely disgusting.

Just then, Scarlett and her new fiancé, Joshua Kincaid, emerged from the house hand-in-hand.

“Mother, what’s going on?”

Scarlett’s gaze landed on Asher and her expression turned to stone.

“What are you doing here, Asher?”

She shot him a look of pure disgust, like he was trash stinking up the room.

He tried to answer her question but once again, they cut him off.

“Haven’t you gotten the message by now?” Joshua growled. “Scarlett is mine. She doesn’t want you anymore.”

“My fiancé is right. Just take a look at yourself.” Scarlett seethed.

“Your clothes look like you found them at the bottom of a thrift bin.”

“You resemble a hungry, shabby dog as always.”

“Every damn minute standing next to you makes me sick to my stomach! Besides…”

“Enough!”Asher snapped, his voice cracking through the tense air like a whip.

If Scarlett dared say one more word, he was sure he’d tear her apart without a second thought. No more masks.

He drew in a sharp breath, forcing the beast clawing at his chest back into its cage.

“I’m here to save your goddamn life and I refuse to stand here and listen to another vile word!

The Grandmaster asked that I deliver some medicine to you. If you really wanna live, grab the meds, and shut up!”

Asher’s presence left the guests uneasy. Was he really the penniless nobody the Wellington family claimed? He felt more like a man carrying some powerful secret.

However, Scarlett was not deterred. All she wanted was to humiliate him.

“Cut the crap, Asher!” She spat.

“We all know that you didn’t come here just to deliver medicine. You could’ve sent it through someone else but you decided to show up in person. Just come clean and tell us what you really want.”

“She’s right.” Joshua echoed. “Just confess that you’re here to take money from us. You’re upset about the breakup and you’ve come for compensation, haven’t you? The Grandmaster didn’t leave you enough money in his will, you greedy bastard?”

Asher was stunned at their terrible behaviour. What a shameless family! What ungrateful, ugly faces they wear!

But the Wellington family did not realize they just refused the only medicine that could save their daughter’s life.

They had no clue how damn powerful the person they crossed really is. They had no idea that Asher Deville could take everything away from them with just one phone call.

“Coming here was a total waste of my time.” Asher growled.

“You just threw away your only shot at staying alive. Don’t come crawling back later.”

That said, he turned to leave but Maria’s high-pitched, excited voice sudden rang out;

“You guys… I think Victoria Stone has just arrived!”

At the mention of that name, Asher’s heartbeat went into overdrive.

Time stood still and all eyes were instantly glued to the convoy of sleek, black, tinted cars that rolled into the parking garage.

The cars moved in perfect synchronization and a flag that represented the Stone family even bellowed from the lead vehicle.

Judging from the convoy alone, it was evident that royalty had just arrived at the Wellington mansion.

The moment the vehicles came to a stop, doors flew open and armed guards dressed in sleek black suits appeared, forming a straight line before the Mercedes in the middle.

The tension in the air was so thick, it could be sliced through with a knife.

Finally, the head bodyguard pulled the door open and one smooth, shapely leg appeared, then the other.

Gasps of awe and admiration filtered through the small crowd as Victoria finally came into view.

God, she was gorgeous.

Dressed in a shimmering blood red dress that fit her skin marvelously, Victoria could almost be mistaken for the bride-to-be.

Even Joshua forgot about his fiancée for a moment. His eyes darkened with lust as they glued onto Victoria.

Everyone gathered around her, each wanting the tiniest bit of her attention.

But Scarlett stayed back, angry and jealous that a more beautiful and powerful woman had appeared and suddenly, no one even bothered to look her way…
