Chapter 8
“I'm leaving, Elena!” Marcus's cold voice thundered in the room. Alex stood by the slightly open door, watching the whole drama unfold. “You don't expect me to still hang around you when it's obvious you've lost everything.” “You're really out of your mind, Marcus.” Elena shot back, her voice hard as steel, trembling slightly. “Everything I did, I did it all for you. I divorced my husband because of you, and now you stand there and tell me what? That you're leaving?” “Oh, is that so?” Marcus turned to face her, his eyes blazing with fury… hatred. “Well, let me make something clear to you, Elena. I have never…ever loved you. You pushed yourself on me the moment I got back from abroad, and I couldn't help but play along.” Elena stood there... frozen... her eyes wide in disbelief, already welling with hot tears. But Marcus wasn't even done yet. “It's not my fault you lost such a good husband. I've only been here for the money… so apparently, since it's all gone now, I suppose my mission here is finished.” He walked up close to her, smirking right in her face. “You called your ex-husband a loser, but guess who's the loser now... you.” Elena clamped her hand tight over her mouth, tears streaming down her face uncontrollably. “Marcus, stop!” Marcus burst out in laughter, like she had just delivered the funniest joke. “Stop? No way, sweetheart. And if you know what's good for you, you'd better go meet your darling husband... maybe he could hook you up with a job at one of his branches.” He retorted, his words brutal as hell, like a dagger piercing right into Elena's heart. “One more thing Elena… I almost forgot to tell you.” He continued, his breath fanning her face. “I have a family abroad, a beautiful one at that. So don't even bother looking for me.” “Wait, what?” Elena choked out, her eyes spinning. “You mean you've only been fooling me all this while?” “Oh yes, Elena. Good luck handling your shit.” Marcus said and turned to the door. Elena went after him, yelling his name endlessly… but as soon as they reached the door, they froze the moment they saw Alex. “Alex?” Elena called out first, her mouth slightly open in shock. “Wh... what are you doing here?” Alex stepped forward, his hands casually tucked in his pockets. “Did I interrupt anything?” Marcus rolled his eyes in disgust and let out a loud hiss as he pushed towards the door. “Oh please…. Get out of the way, Mr deadweight. I have a flight to catch.” “Oh really?” Alex snapped, now facing him. “Well actually, you're the one I’ve come to see. Mind having a word with me in my car?” Marcus let out a low, amused smirk, as if that was the funniest thing he had ever heard. “A word? With you? Oh, don't be delusional, Alex.” He muttered. “Are you so lonely now that you have to go around searching for some petty friends? Well, if that's the case, I'm not interested. Your wife is always here to keep you company anyway.” He dashed out of the room without blinking. But he didn't even make it past the walkway before firm hands grabbed him from behind, pinning him down to the ground. Alex stepped closer, his hands crossed behind him. He stretched one hand towards Marcus's face, tilting his head up to meet his gaze. "I gave you the opportunity earlier to do things your way, but since you've refused to obey, I guess I'd have to do it my… way." He turned to the guard who was still pinning him down. “Take him to the car.” The guard did just as instructed. Alex followed behind them, his steps measured… bold, like he owned the place. Elena ran after him, catching up just before he walked out of the gate. “Alex, please wait.” She yelled, her voice desperate. Alex halted at once, turning around slowly to meet her gaze. “What is it you want this time?” Elena fell to her knees right before him, lowering her head at his feet. “I'm sorry for everything, Alex. I'm sorry for the way I treated you in the past… I know better now.” “Well, good for you.” Alex replied with a clipped tone, his expression unreadable. “But I'm sorry, Elena. You already lost your chance.” He turned and walked away, without sparing her a second glance. Just as he reached the car, his phone rang in his hand. He answered on the second ring, raising the phone to his ear. He hadn’t even spoken when Marie, his secretary, burst through the line, her voice trembling with panic. “Sir, we need you at the company immediately. The head branch is on fire. There’s chaos breaking out as we speak. It's a complete massacre.” “W... what did you just say?” Alex blurted out, but before his voice could connect, the line was already dead. Marie had ended the call. His legs trembled with panic as the words replayed in his head. “Take me to the head branch. Now!” He roared, turning to the driver. The driver turned slightly, his face a mask of confusion. “Boss, are you...” “No questions!” Alex cut in sharply. “Just take me there. Now.” The driver nodded quietly and drove off without another word. As soon as they arrived at the branch, Alex flung the car door open and stormed into the building. The moment his eyes landed on the scene before him, his breath caught in his throat. Security guards lay lifeless on the floor, drenched in their own blood. His jaw tightened, his fists clenched at his sides as rage and disbelief surged through him... all at once. He pushed forward, each step heavier than the last, until he reached his office. And that's when he met the biggest shock of his life.Latest Chapter
Unexpected Foe
Chapter 16He headed straight to James’s wing… and there he was, fast asleep.“Let me know the moment he wakes,” he instructed the guard at the door, then turned and made his way back to his suite. But what he didn’t expect was to find another guard already waiting outside his door, hands clasped behind his back.“Boss,” the guard said, his voice firm but tense, “I have a confession to make.”Alex studied him for a second, then gave a slow nod. “Go on. I’m listening.”“It’s about Miss Thompson…”Alex’s eyes darkened the instant her name was mentioned. He stepped forward in a flash, grabbing the guard by the collar, his grip tight and unforgiving.“What about her?” he growled, his voice laced with fury. “Is she in danger?”The guard gasped for breath, struggling in his hold. He shook his head frantically, unable to speak until Alex finally released him.“Now talk,” Alex snapped, crossing his arms as he began to circle him. “What exactly do you have to say about her?”The guard clutched
Cold Warning
Chapter 15They both nodded and straightened in their seats, sensing the weight in his tone as they braced themselves for what he was about to say.“I'm sure you both are aware of the secret spy who has been siphoning funds from the Wellington Estate into an unknown account.” Alex said, his tone cool but dangerously low as he rested his chin on his clasped hands, his eyes locked on them. They both nodded without hesitation.“Good,” he murmured with quiet satisfaction, placing his hands firmly on the armrests. “Now I need just one thing from you… find out who’s behind it, and bring that person to me before dusk tomorrow.”Harlan and Sophia exchanged quick, uneasy glances, their brows tightening in disbelief, as though Alex had made an impossible demand. But they didn't protest. Instead, they bowed their heads respectfully. “We’ll do as you’ve said, Mr. Wellington.”Without another word, Alex stood and walked towards the window, his hands buried in his pockets. “That’ll be all for now.
A Spy
Chapter 14“It's a good thing you called me when you did.” The doctor said quietly, his voice laced with severity as he finished examining Elena. His gaze remained on her fragile frame resting on the bed, his expression darkening. “She could have lost the baby if you hadn’t intervened in time.”A cold chill ran through Alex… and his eyes shifted quickly between Elena and the doctor. “But… she's stable now, right?”“Yes, she is.” The doctor replied, his tone softening into a calm, solemn whisper. “She just needs to rest properly. With proper care, both she and the baby will be fine.”“Thank you, doctor.” Alex exhaled, his voice laced with a mix of panic and relief as his gaze returned to Elena. Then turning his full attention to the doctor, his expression sharpened. “I'd like to have a word with you. Outside.”The doctor gave a quick nod. “Of course, Mr Wellington. After you.”Alex stepped into the hallway, holding the door open until the doctor followed. As soon as they were both outs

Chapter 13He fumed aggressively, but before he could utter another word, Sophia's eyes landed on the ring on his finger.“No way.” She breathed, her voice laced with disbelief. “Is that… the platinum ring?”Alex gave a small nod and exhaled deeply as he sank back into the seat beside her.“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Sophia gasped, barely able to contain her shock. “How did you get it back so easily?”“Well, it was never really missing.” Alex said quietly, his tone flat and distant.Sophia's brows knit in confusion. “That doesn't make any sense. We all saw it when he took the ring. How can you say it was never missing?”Alex clasped his hands tightly, staring into the blank space as he thought about everything Sophia had said earlier… the unauthorized bank transfers, the secret spy leaking personal information from within the estate… still spun in his mind, leaving him overwhelmed. He was so lost in his thoughts that everything else Sophia said made no sense to him.He remained tha

Chapter 12Alex's eyes widened like he had just been punched in the guts. “You're not serious, are you?” He quizzed, lowering his voice.James nodded quietly. He was already too weak to speak now. He just lay still on the floor, his breath slowed and forced.“It's… it's true.” He stuttered, his voice shredded into tiny bits. “Victor has only been flaunting the fake all this while. I didn't let him have the real one… because I made a promise to your grandfather on his dying bed that I'd protect it with my life.” At this point, the furious look on Alex's face had disappeared, replaced with an intrigued, terribly shocked expression. He crouched closely towards James's weak frame, his gaze turning softer now. “If indeed what you say is true, why then is the ring not there in the safe? And why did you have to keep it from me for so long?”James coughed between quiet, muffled sobs, his voice rough and croaky as he struggled to speak.“I… I hid it from you because I was waiting for the perf
The Unfolding
Chapter 11James's eyes went wide with terror, his breath falling in ragged gasps. “Please Alex, you need to hear me out. I didn't mean for any of this to happen.” He spat weakly, blood already spilling from his mouth. But Alex wasn't buying into his pathetic sermons this time. He crouched towards him and grabbed a handful of his hair, pulling it aggressively until his veins popped out of his forehead. He leaned forward, his hot breath fanning his face. “It's obvious you're not ready to speak.” He whispered straight into his ear, and rose to his feet. He turned to the guards, his hands crossed behind him. “Lock him up until he's ready to speak.” The guards nodded and marched forward. They grabbed James on both arms, leading him into the cold, dark basement behind the house. They bound his legs and hands with heavy chains, tied a blindfold over his eyes, and threw him into the basement.James yelled after them, his voice echoing off the thick walls. But it was all useless now… they h
