“The Emperor is resting inside, Your Highness. He does not wish to be disturbed by anyone,” the soldier replied.

“Not even me?” asked Princess Lu Lian, her tone laced with disbelief.

The soldier bowed his head slightly. “Forgive me, Your Highness. We dare not defy His Majesty’s orders.”

Wu Ming, whose senses were as sharp as a tiger’s, caught the faint, metallic scent of blood seeping from behind the chamber door. His instincts screamed that something sinister was happening within.

“Very well then. Let’s go, Fang Yun,” said Princess Lu Lian, though unease stirred within her heart. Something about the soldiers’ behavior at that door didn’t sit right with her.

“I find it strange, Fang Yun,” she murmured as they walked away. “Since when does Father rest in a guest chamber? Something isn’t right here.”

“You’ll have your answer soon enough, Your Highness,” Fang Yun replied calmly. “Once we reach the heavily guarded room.”

Unbeknownst to them, Emperor Fu Chen, intoxicated by the power cours

  • The Battle

The arrival of Fang Yun together with Mei Hwa — who, it turned out, was a martial artist as well — stunned the five merchants from the Chinese mainland who had been locked in the room. The other captives were equally shocked. Now their slim hope of survival had opened up, though it remained fragile — given that the number of pirates on the island reached into the tens of thousands. “Everyone stay inside. After we get out of this room, close the door tightly and hold it shut so no one can get in.” Fang Yun spoke to the five merchants she knew, instructing them to pass the message to the others. After taking a deep breath, Fang Yun approached the door fastened with heavy iron chains. With black flames issuing from his hands, Fang Yun melted the chains easily and quickly. Then the three of them stepped out of the room. Those still inside hurried to shut the door and brace it from the inside with whatever they could find.<

  • The Pirate Stronghold

Inside the massive structure, Fang Yun and Zhao Wen could clearly see that the place was teeming with people. Both of them were utterly baffled. If these were merely pirates, how could their numbers reach into the thousands—perhaps even tens of thousands, based on Fang Yun’s rough estimation? And how had they managed to recruit so many? That question lingered in both their minds.Fang Yun and the other captives were herded into a large room spacious enough to contain them all—except for Mei Hwa, of course. The young woman had been taken to a separate chamber, for the pirates intended to sell her at an exorbitant price due to her extraordinary beauty.“Fang Yun, what’s your plan now?” Zhao Wen asked, his face uncertain. They were stranded on an isolated island, far from any mainland.“I’m not sure, Wen. This is beyond anything I anticipated,” Fang Yun replied, his eyes scanning the other prisoners crammed into the room.“If we were on

  • Pirates III

Dozens of pirates rushed forward to tie up Fang Yun and Zhao Wen, while several others restrained Mei Hwa carefully so the girl wouldn’t be hurt.Fang Yun and his companion could see that the pirates bore facial features similar to Mei Hwa’s. That fact alone made Fang Yun decide to comply for the time being.“Take those two young men and lock them up with the other captives. As for the girl, put her in her own room!” ordered the pirate leader in a language Fang Yun and Zhao Wen had already learned. The two young men were herded into a cabin used to hold other prisoners. Inside, Fang Yun and Zhao Wen saw five merchants they had spoken to earlier in the voyage, now bruised and beaten, clearly for resisting capture.Fang Yun scanned the room, observing the other captives. They came from different lands and races—only two, like himself, were from the mainland of Hu. The rest were from distant corners of the world.Fang Yun gave a faint smile

  • Pirates II

Judging by how silently and swiftly they moved, it was clear these were not ordinary pirates — they were highly trained and experienced. And judging by the number of ships backing them, the One-Eyed Skull pirates were arguably one of the largest pirate bands in history at that time.In a relatively short time they had taken control of the merchant vessel without even waking most of the passengers. After seizing the ship, the pirates put her back in motion and steered her away from the regular route.Nearly a hundred pirates kept moving across the decks even after the ship was under their control. They burst from cabin to cabin, rounding up and binding the passengers. The captives were crammed into a single room and watched by a dozen pirates. They didn’t miss the cabin where Fang Yun, Mei Hwa, and Zhao Wen were staying. Several armed pirates pounded on their door.“Open up!” one of them shouted.Mei Hwa, roused awake, op

  • Pirates I

“Stop, young man!” shouted one of the four warriors who had been following Fang Yun and Mei Hwa.“I knew there would be rats trailing us,” Fang Yun sneered before turning around.“Hand over your valuables!”“Do you see us carrying any treasures?” Fang Yun asked mockingly.“You said he exchanged a large sum of money. But I see he carries nothing!” whispered one of the men to his companion.“I swear, Brother, I’m not lying. I saw it with my own eyes—he took out piles of gold coins from a chest!”“But he doesn’t have that chest with him, does he?”“I swear he did earlier, Brother!”“Is this the chest you’re talking about?” Fang Yun asked suddenly. With a flick of his hand, a large chest appeared from his Destruction Space.“That’s it, Brother! That’s the chest I saw!”“Fool! Do you really want to rob a cultivator whose power clearly surpasses ours?” the man who was called Brother barked angrily.

  • The Greed of the Guards

After all the preparations had been completed, the three young warriors bade farewell to Zhao Jian.“Zhao Wen, mind your manners when you’re in a foreign land,” Zhao Jian reminded gently. “Their customs are not the same as ours. Learn from Mei so you won’t act improperly.”“Yes, Grandfather. I’ll remember your advice,” Zhao Wen replied respectfully.“Good. Now, go! At the western edge of Hu lies a great harbor. Travel there and find a ship that can take you across the sea to the lands of China.”The three bowed deeply before Zhao Jian, then mounted their horses and rode out of the Temple of Eternity.“Hyaaa!”Fang Yun spurred his horse forward, racing down the slopes of Mount Tianmen along a narrow forest trail. Mei Hwa and Zhao Wen followed close behind, galloping westward toward the mountain’s foothills.Four hours later, they reached the base of the mountain. Since Zhao Wen knew the area well, he took the lead, guidin
