Both Alfred and Meredith could hardly hide their shock as they watched Max absolutely demolish his opponents.

For Alfred, even though he was aware that Max had spent one year in the army as part of the mandatory service to the country, he didn't expect that his time away from home would grant him such an exponential increase in strength.

It truly was astounding.

As for Meredith, she had to accept that she had underestimated Max's prowess, though it didn't do much to change her perception of him.

All it did was make her understand that he was strong, but strength did not translate to business acumen, which was what mattered to her.

In any case, she kept her thoughts to herself, as did Alfred, both watching as Max conversed with Duncan.

“You can keep your position as head.” Max calmly remarked. “All I need from you is to ensure that you and your men aren't used against me.”

“Of course, boss, anything you say.”

“Good. Now, I know Mr. Sanchez gave you a mission.”

“Ah, about that…”

Gritting his teeth, Simon remarked. “You'd best not get in my way, Max Augustus. That bastard will surely pay for ruining my suit.”Max snorted. “Touch him and you'll understand what it means to have the Augustus family as an enemy.”“Damn it, what the fuck do you want from me!?”“Meredith, please put a call across to the family's tailor. Ask them to make a tailor-made suit for Mr. Simon here and have it delivered by tomorrow evening. Spare no expenses to make it more than the rags Mister Simon is wearing since it would seem he is unable to afford a new suit.”“You bastard!” Simon bellowed and tried to attack Max but a simple maneuver from Max ended with Simon on the floor and Max looking over him.“You are pathetic, Simon. I can't even regard you as a man. Perhaps it's better to call you a boy.”“Max Augustus!” Simon tried to get back up but Max placed his feet over his chest, restraining him further.“You will stay down, else your father will end up having a cripple as heir to his e

  • Chapter 0039: A notable response

Grinning wickedly, Simon intoned. “I hear Rosario has been pulling out a lot of its investments recently. Do I take it that there's been some financial trouble?... I'm more than happy to help out if that's the case.”“There's hardly a need for that.” Max calmly replied, not about to fall for the poorly hidden bait that Simon had tossed out. “We withdrew those investments because there was no reason to keep them, not because of a lack of finances.”“Is that so?... In truth, I've heard that a lot of the investments Rosario has made ended terribly.”“More than half their investments ended up being a waste.” One of Simon's lackeys chipped in with the other chuckling in amusement. At this point, their exchange had garnered the attention of quite a few with Mister Richard part of the bunch as he watched with increased interest. He had already anticipated such things from the moment his assistant mentioned what Max had done. These people were arrogant to the core with egos too large for a p

  • Chapter 0038: Like a volcano waiting to erupt

The gathering in the South Hall Pavilion, though peaceful on the surface, was like a volcano waiting to erupt, with Kane and his cabal waiting for the right opportunity to strike Max down for his irresponsible comments.Meanwhile, Max acted as though unaware as he admired the amount of work put into making the pavilion a work of exquisite art.Opulence and grandeur were the only words that could be used to describe everything he saw as there was not a single cheap thing in sight.Even the workers serving the guests wore designer outfits provided by Richard.Max could guess that it was a way of letting the guests know that he was no less than they were, and it seemed to be working based on how they spoke kindly of the ambassador.“Young master, if I may, I really don't think it's fine to be antagonizing so many powerful men. It only serves to make things difficult for us later on.”“So would you rather we bow our heads and take the insults.’“If need be, yes,” Meredith remarked only fo

  • Chapter 0037: Respect for value

Ignoring them, Max made to leave only for a journalist to speak up at that moment.“Mister Augustus, is it true that the lady with you is your assistant?”Max nodded. “Indeed, she is Miss Meredith and she is my assistant, a wonderful person if I might add.”“I see, so that means the rumors are true.”“What rumors?” Max raised a brow.“That you divorced your wife in secret so you could be with your assistant.”“Where did that come from?”“Is this true, Mister Augustus?”Max chuckled with Meredith's expression remaining impassive though inside, she resisted the urge to beat up the journalist who was clearly trying to bait Max into a trap.“It's unfortunate that for most people, a man and a woman can't be in a friendship. Everyone immediately assumes that they are screwing each other.”“This doesn't explain why you would bring your assistant with you today.” The journalist insisted, clearly not wanting to drop the subject. After he'd been contacted by his boss to pressure Max into making

The next day, Max and Meredith left Rosario headquarters for an important event happening at the South Hall Pavilion. As the name implies, the hall was located in the southern portion of the city and was an imposing architectural masterpiece that merged aspects of the ancient era and the modern era to appear as it does today.Meredith saw no reason to go there, but Max knew it was the best place to swiftly increase the net worth of the Augustus family. In truth, he planned on going alone but Meredith was scared he'd end up gambling away too much money and so chose to tag along. The owner of the Hall, Mr. Richard Stanton, usually organized stock auctions for the rich and wealthy in the city, allowing them to invest money into potential cryptocurrencies with the promise of incredible returns if the currency ended up going the way they predicted. In any case, the compound the pavilion was in was currently filled with a fleet of cars from different dignitaries that had deemed it fit to
