As Eggsy's eyes fluttered open, his mind had momentarily went foggy, like a veil of confusion that shrouded his mind. But as his gaze cleared, he saw a hollow interface hovering above his face - it was a blue translucent screen called a system. As it displayed certain information, a voice could also be heard narrating the information into Eggsy’s mind.
[Congratulations Eggsy! You have been given the Apocalypto system] The message appeared and a female robotic voice had announced in his mind. “An apocalypto system? That’s new.” Yes, Eggsy knew what a System was due to the countless Vr games he would play during his spare time - the game when played; takes the player into the game world, making them feel like they were in the real world. But what he didn’t actually knew was why the system was labelled as an apocalypto system, something that has never happened before. The system only exists as a plain system in the games he played, which was why he was surprised when it claimed to be an apocalypto System. Yet, he continued reading. [In addition to this, several power-ups have been given for the user to survive the apocalypse. Below are your stats and skills] The display continued, showing more information as they appeared in tabs. [Name: Eggsy Lowry] [HP: 50] [Exp: 0/1999] [Energy: 10/10] [~ STATS ~] [Strength: 5] [Healing: 5] [Immunity: 10] [Agility: 5] After this was shown, it disappeared, showing a different tab with the title; ‘skills’ written on top. [~SKILLS~] [Tactical Analysis lvl 1: Helps in analysing and strategising the best way to survival for the user. Uses 2 points of energy] [Lightning bolt lvl: Zaps and disintegrate zombies around two metres away from the user. Uses 50 points of energy to activate] “Zombies? Am I in a virtual reality capsule playing a zombie game? But the system looks different from what it would usually show, it’s now using my real name and it is showing me skills that I have no idea what they are or what they do. Did they upgrade these or sha?” Eggsy wondered as he continue reading. [With each zombies killed, a number of Exp and energy points will be given, but with each level-ups, a certain number of stat points will be received, which can be used to increase the user’s Stats] [~Weaponry~] [Certain weapons have been given to the user to ensure his survival in the apocalypse. Some weapons can be upgraded as the user’s level increases, while the others do not require an upgrade] [Twin blades lvl 1: Attacking 10, Defending 5] - can be upgraded. [Longsword lvl 1: Attacking 15] - can be upgraded. [Ghost blade lvl 1: Attacking 10, Defending 10] - can be upgraded. [Guns: About 10 types of gun have been placed in the user’s weaponry, once their bullets have been used up, they can only be reloaded back in 15mins. The user can use and store weapons from others into the weaponry] - Doesn’t need upgrading. [Grenades: 20, you can buy more using energy points] [Bomber: 5, you can buy more using energy points] [~Quest~] [Main Quest: Survive and protect the girl you saved earlier, Maya] [Reward: Not revealed yet] “So, the girl’s name is Maya.” He said. [Daily Quest: Kill 20 Zombies in a day] [Reward: 50 Exp] [New Side Quest!] [Rescue Maya] [Reward: 50 Exp] [Maya has been captured by your classmates; Victor and the rest. The user was in a near death situation and Maya had transferred the system created for her survival to save you from dying, you need to save her, or her demise would result to the System’s inability to function, which will ultimately lead to your death] “What the…?” Eggsy blurted out. Soon the darkness that enveloped his eyes started clearing out, and now he could see his surroundings. He was currently in the place where he had previously found a girl stuck under rubble. He was attempting to help her back then when he suddenly blacked out. A surge of adrenaline coursed through Eggsy's veins as he struggled to his feet, his mind racing with concern. He looked to his side but he couldn’t find the girl, which means the system was right. The girl, known as Maya has been taken by Victor. A frustrated frown had appeared on his face as he realised this. However, he soon noticed that all the wounds and injury he sustained from Victor’s beating had disappeared, and he looked to be in a more perfect condition than before. “Did the system did all this?” He said. “Then I have to find that girl, I don’t know what Victor might do to her.” Right then and there, a map had appeared above his eyes. It was a map he recognised to be the map of their city, then there was a red location icon signifying the location of Maya in another city nearest to it. “Ravenfield City? How did they get there so fast? I couldn’t have passed out for so long.” Checking his watch, he saw that the time was 10am in the morning, and the date was Friday. While the day the apocalypse started was Tuesday in the afternoon. Realisation hit him as he saw that he’s been out for three days. Now he understood how Victor and his gangs had managed to get to the other city within the time frame. “Now I must find a way to get to Ravenfield city.” At that moment, he noticed a person standing in front of him. They had their back turned towards Eggsy. And with the way the person was dressed, he could safely say that they were a lady. He cautiously approached the lady as he noticed that she has been standing on the same spot without engaging in any activity or movement. “Hello Ma’am, are you okay?” he asked, his voice tinged with concern. As he said this, the lady had turned around, but the sight of the person wasn’t what he was expecting - half her face had been bitten off, exposing jagged bone and torn flesh. Eggsy recoiled in horror. “Shit! Shit! Shit!” Eggsy shouted as he stumbled backwards, but the zombie had immediately lunged at him as it attempt to bite Eggsy. [Automatically activating the tactical analysis skill] [-2 Energy points] [Energy: 8/10] [Kick the zombie in the stomach with your right foot. Grab her hands and spin her around. Twist her head to kill her!] “Like shit that is easy!” Eggsy yelled, hesitating for a fraction of a second, but he had no choice. He had to do what was said if he wanted to survive. With his right foot, he kicked the zombie lady on the stomach causing her to jerk backwards. Then as he grabbed her hands, he pulled her whole body backwards till she had her back facing him, then grabbing her head, he twisted it to the side, killing her on the spot. As the Zombie slumped to the ground, lifeless, Eggsy felt a rush of relief. [Ding!] [Congratulations, you have killed a zombie!] [Reward: 10Exp] [First time kill] [Reward: 10Exp] [Exp: 20/1999] [+1 Energy points] [Energy: 9/10] “Phew! I almost got killed there.” Eggsy said as he glanced at the dead body of the zombie lady. “So the system wasn’t joking, there really are zombies. But what the heck happened to this world. I thought zombies only exists in games.” Right at that moment, several zombies started making their way towards him; about a dozen of them, collapsing and pushing against each other as they struggled to move forward. “Well, at least I have weapons,” Eggsy muttered to himself, a grim smile spreading across his face. “This will be no different than playing Vr games, except for the part where I might actually become a zombie.” Glancing through the weaponry from the system, Eggsy had selected two different swords. Due to the attacking rate of the ghost blade, he had decided to choose it. But he has always been fond of using dual blades, so he chose to use that in battle, while the ghost blade would only be used when he fights against difficult opponents. Apart from these two weapons, he hadn’t chosen anything else. For now, he would be attacking using only swords, then maybe later he might change them into guns. “Alright let’s do this!” He shouted, charging forward at the approaching zombies with a fierce determination. With swift and deadly precision, Eggsy targeted the zombies' heads, knowing that cutting it off was the surest way to kill them. He swung his twin blades in wide arcs, striking through their necks, decapitating their heads. Within minutes, the dozen zombies lay motionless, their severed heads rolling across the ground. Eggsy stood panting, his blades smeared with gore, but he was glad he killed all of them. At that moment, the system popped up. [Ding!] [12 zombies killed] [120 Exp received] [Exp: 140/1999] [+12 EP] [Energy: 21/21] While Eggsy was busy checking out the system notification, he had failed to noticed a Zombie creeping up behind him. However, the sudden sound of gunshot had sent him diving to the ground, his heart racing with fear. As he looked back, he saw the zombie’s head splattered into a mess of blood and brains. Then coming out of the shadows were a group of six survivors, one of them holding onto a smoked gun while the others were with different kinds of weapons; swords, cutlasses and iron poles. “You miss one.” They said, their eyes fixed on Eggsy as they approached him.

- (Last Chapter) -Before I realized what was happening, a collar was being snapped around my neck, sharp electrical pulses shooting through me. Suddenly I couldn’t move, could barely breathe. Panic filled me, joining the adrenaline rushing through me, and my body wasn’t sure how to react. Keep fighting, or shut down.“What are you doing?” I heard Kat scream. “Let her go!”She could see me? The collar, maybe...Keep fighting. Definitely keep fighting. I tried to stand, but my legs refused to cooperate.“You want me docile? Leave the girls out of this,” I tried to shout, but only gurgles escaped.“Ethan?” Reeve gasped. “Help us!”“You told me you wouldn’t hurt Reeve,” Ethan shouted.Instant comprehension. He knew the Hazmats, because he was one of them.He was the spy—no doubts about that now—and he had gotten some of his information from Reeve. When I’d lived with her, she’d known my schedule. The rest he must have gotten by watching me.He’d covered his tracks very well. I still felt

I wasn’t going to get through to her, was I? “Seriously, how did you find me? And who is we?”“I can answer that.” Ethan moved to her side, watching me warily.Ethan? The potential spy?Great. Wonderful. This couldn’t get any worse. “Fill me in before I have a panic attack.”“Well, for starters,” said another female, “I found out about the zombies.”Reeve stepped up to Kat’s other side.Okay. It was officially worse.“My dad doesn’t know that I know,” Reeve said.“When you disappeared, Reeve did some investigating, and told me what she learned,” Ethan said, “and that’s when we discovered the zombies, and your whereabouts, and decided to bring Kat in to help us save you. You’re welcome, by the way. Do you have any idea what we had to do to hack into Mr. Ankh’s computer and get the coordinates to this place?”I hoped that was rhetorical.“In other astonishing news,” Kat said before I could process everything I’d been told, “Frosty and I broke up—of course. He wouldn’t tell me where you

He loaded a third. “This is a sedative.”I felt a third sting, and whatever the sedative was, it worked quickly. Darkness fell over me, and my knees collapsed. I knew nothing more.My head pounded as I blinked open my eyes. I lay on...my bed? No, the mattress beneath me was too narrow to be mine. Gingerly I sat up. Dizziness struck me, and I moaned.“Hey, Ali-gator.”Cole’s voice. I breathed deep in an effort to clear my head, saw the haunting beauty of his face. I hated to look away, but curiosity got to me. We...were in a small bedroom I didn’t recognize, with log walls and planked floors.“You’re in a secluded home Ankh owns. It’s twenty miles from my house,” he said, “but they aren’t highway miles, so it takes me forty minutes to get here.”I’d been banished. My expression must have fallen to reflect my dismay, even though I knew this was for the best, because he added, “You’re too dangerous to be around others right now, sweetheart.”Acid eroded my throat, and I choked. “I know,

“O-kay. I should have guessed this was why you both took off so unexpectedly.”Nothing except Frosty.Dang it! I was so sick of interruptions!Cole sprang away from me, assuming a battle-ready position.Frosty rolled his shoulders, hard and intractable, and just as ready. “Don’t bother trying to get rid of me. I’m not leaving without Ali. Nana is worried.”“Fine. But you will turn around,” Cole snapped.Though he looked as if he wanted to protest, Frosty obeyed. My cheeks burned, and my heart pounded as I sat up. Cole helped me right my disheveled clothing before righting his own. Our gazes locked for a long, strained moment, and we both knew there were a million things we needed to say, but couldn’t. Not now.Later, he mouthed, hooking a strand of hair behind my ear.I should tell him no again, that this was it, the end. I might be dangerous to his health, but he was dangerous to my self-control. Instead, I found myself nodding.Cole kept his arm around me while we walked back to the

“You trusted me,” I said, shocked to my soul, “despite what you saw.” That was absolutely, utterly huge.“Yes,” he said. He fit his hands against my jaw. “I told you I did. I’m in this thing, Ali. All the way.”“But...why did you stop texting me?”I saw the ice frost over his eyes, and I shuddered. “My dad was monitoring my phone feed.”Oh. The ice wasn’t for me, but for his father.I looked away from him, trying to give myself time to think, and caught a glance of my reflection in the glass. I stumbled backward.Zombie Ali was back.Flickers of red burned in her eyes, and the black smudges on her cheeks were thicker. She smiled at me, waved—and then, through the reflection, I watched her step out of my body, away from the glass. With the tick of a clock loud in my ears, I watched Z.A. glide off the porch and into the driveway. She paused to look back at me and crook her finger, a silent command for me to follow. A need to know her purpose consumed me, and I stepped off after her.Unc

He even dropped me off at work, only to return an hour later and remain inside the coffeehouse for the rest of my shift. My coworkers stared at him, the guys frightened, the girls excited. Everyone whispered, speculating about who he was, and why he was there.I think I blew their minds when I left with him.“Any zombie sightings tonight?” I asked. The moon was high, full.“So far, none.”“Shouldn’t you be out there searching?”“I traded nights with Gavin.” His voice tightened. “He owed me.”“Don’t fight him over me. Over what happened.”“I want to, but I won’t,” he said tightly. “You aren’t mine. Not officially. Technically he didn’t do anything wrong.”He dropped me off at home but didn’t try to kiss me. I couldn’t blame him.I received a text from him the next day. No party tonight, I’m sorry & I’m not ditching U this time, promise. My dad is sending me out of town.
