As those words echoed in Nicolas’ ears, he could only come to two conclusions.

A prank. A mistake.

“Young master? Are you there?"

Nicolas felt a surge of headache. He let out a soft groan.”Can you stop with the joke?” He hissed, staggering to his feet.

“What joke?" The person on the other end of the line quipped, confused.

Nicolas leaned against a tree to steady himself, but he realized that… he didn't have to do that!

He pushed away from the tree and stared at his hands. His body hummed with an overwhelming strength. He felt the itch to burst into a race, the urge to outsource this insane energy he felt.

“Young master. Are you alright? We-”

"Who are you?” Pissed, Nicolas asked.

He was about to end the call, when he glanced around one more time.

“Look, I'm not sure where I am-"

"That's okay, young master. We've locked into your location through the energy fluctuations of your heirloom necklace."

"My heirloom-” Nicolas stopped when his hands automatically went to his necklace.

The necklace that had somehow always been his. He had always felt ridiculously attached to the piece of jewelry.

“You were able to locate me through my necklace?"

“Yes, young master."

What's with the title? “Okay."

“We will arrive in a few minutes.” There was a pause. Then Nicholas heard the whirr of something.

"We just took off, young master.”

“Okay.”

When the call ended, Nicolas glanced around. They said they'd be there in minutes. There wasn't even any visible road. How would they get to him? And in minutes?

It felt surreal, that conversation. What if they didn't come? What if it had all been in his head?

He decided to not sit still.

Since they could detect his location, he'd try to find his way. If they were real, they'd eventually find him.

Suddenly, he heard a loud sound, followed by, “Young master! Someone will get down to get you now."

Nicolas looked up and spotted two helicopters. Then, a ladder was thrown from the helicopter. Some people began to climb down.

Help had really come. He closed his palm around his necklace and muttered a thank you.

When they reached down, the only woman among them stepped forward. She grinned as she bowed. “Young master, it's a pleasure to finally meet you."

Nicolas starred, dumbfounded.

The woman raised her head. “I’m a servant of the Belford family. I was sent to escort you home.”

“The Belford family?" He asked as he eyed all of them.

"Every single thing you want to know will be explained to you, young master, but first, we need to get you out of here. It's unbefitting for your status." The woman gestured to the ladder. “Please, go first."

Nicolas began to climb the ladder. The woman and the others followed behind him.

Once they were all onboard, they all bowed before Nicolas.

“Welcome back, young master.”

“Thank you," Nicolas answered, grateful for their help.

They showed him to a seat that had been prepared for him.

“What family is the Belford family?" He inquired.

The woman smiled. "The Belford family possesses the greatest wealth and power in the world. And you belong to it.”

Nicolas nodded as he contemplated if he should ask her about the surge of power he had felt.

He glanced up at her and began, “Back there in the forest, I felt…” he tried to find the right words. "I felt some sort of strength. I felt energized…”

The woman’s smile was easy. "It's your power, young master. It comes from the bloodline inheritance of the Belford family. Soon, we will arrange for someone to teach you how to harness your strength.”

Nicolas nodded slowly. "What's your name?"

She smiled, “My name is Nora."

“Nora, you said I belong to the Belford family. How is that possible? I'm an orphan, no relatives. I think you might have gotten the wrong person.”

Nora's gaze fell on the necklace on Nicolas' neck. "You are the one, young master. That necklace can never belong to anyone else.”

Nora continued. "You were very young when you went missing. Since then, the Belford family has searched for you. Fortunately, your bloodline awakened recently and we were finally able to locate you.”

“So I went missing when I was young. I don't remember any of that."

"You'll get a more detailed explanation, either from your father or-”

Nicolas' ears perked up. "I have a father?”

Nora nodded. “He’s the head of the Belford family.”

Nicolas just stared at Nora for what felt like eons. He swallowed and finally asked, “Where is he?"

"He is currently engaged in a classified mission. You won't be able to meet him now.”

Nicolas sat by the window. As the helicopter descended, he was awestruck by the grand architectural complex outside. It was already dark, but every part of the complex was bathed in bright lights.

He turned to face Nora. “Is that where we're headed?"

Nora nodded with a smile. "That's the Belford family's estate."

Nicolas could only stare.

“The headquarters is ten times larger than this,” Nora chipped in as they stepped down from the helicopter.

How wealthy was this family?

Nicolas couldn't stop gaping at the building and the endless security team roaming about.

They led him to the exquisite living room and Nicolas admired the interior designs.

“Now that you've returned to the family,” Nora said, standing beside Nicolas', "you have the right

to inherit everything.”

Nicolas was shocked. “I can own all of these?"

"Yes, young master.”

“Goodness," Nicolas muttered. Now, the title made perfect sense. How had he gone from ‘Sarah's husband’ to ‘young master’ in a matter of hours?

“Tomorrow,” Nora continued, "we will officially announce your identity at Silvercrest Tower. It's one of the Belford family’s properties in the city.”

Nicolas stopped dead in his tracks.

“Silvercrest Tower?” He echoed. Wasn’t that the very place where his wife worked?

After destroying his family and taking full control of everything they owned, the male lead’s life changed completely. He became the head of a vast business empire. The Belford family that once looked down on him, was gone now and so every company, estate, and asset they once controlled was now under his name. He rebuilt their empire with his own principles replacing corruption and deceit. His public image boomed overnight. The media called him a “self-made heir,” but few understood the blood and loss that came with that title. Investors sought his attention. He led board meetings commanding absolute obedience. Employees respected him. He continued to live in the family’s main mansion, though it was no longer recognizable. The halls were transformed to suite his taste. Expensive art replaced family portraits, modern furniture stood where old relics once gathered dust, and wide glass windows replaced the heavy curtains. This was his way of reclaiming not just a house, but his peace.Fin

  • CHAPTER 136

They weren't able to save Nora. Even though Nicholas had rushed her to the nearest hospital the instant he was out of his handcuffs, it still wasn't enough to save her. In the end, he could only arrange for her to get a funeral befitting a person as great as her. She might have betrayed him due to allegiances she held long before they met, but in her final moments, she had saved him. He would be a fool not to respect that.Afterwards, he returned to Benedict's place first. He had something to tell the man, anyway, so he figured that he might as well return the borrowed goons in person. What he didn't expect was to be surrounded by armed men as soon as he stepped into the house. Benedict descended the stairs to meet him, his expression filled with icy rage."So," he said. "You managed to survive.""Let me guess," Nicholas replied. "You were hoping otherwise?""I thought you would have the good sense to meet your death there. You have no place in the Belford family, and you certainly do

  • CHAPTER 135

Natalie's life was in Jerome's hands, which was the only reason Nicholas allowed himself and Kabuto to be handcuffed and taken to a room upstairs. He and Kabuto were forced to kneel while Jerome sprawled on a chair like it was his throne, looking pleased with himself. Behind him stood Nora. This time, she was the one pressing the gun to Natalie's temple. Natalie's hands and feet were bound, her mouth gagged. She blinked furiously, trying to hold back tears. She couldn't let herself cry. She had to be strong, for Nicholas."So," Jerome said, "I don't believe we've been properly introduced, Nicholas Belford.""Cut the act, 'Belling de Nor'," Nicholas snarled. "What the hell do you want?"Jerome chuckled."So you figured it out," he said. "And here I thought my disguise was perfect. Oh, well. It's not like knowing that is going to help you now.""You must love the sound of your own voice," Nicholas said. "Seeing as you said everything but the answer to my question."Jerome rolled his eye

  • CHAPTER 134

"How do you win a game you don't know the rules of?" Nicholas mumbled.Harold's eyebrows lifted. "Pardon?"Nicholas looked up, startled. He hadn't meant to say that out loud. He returned his gaze to the chessboard sitting on the table between them. It was his move, but he had been so occupied with his thoughts that he barely noticed."Jerome," he clarified. "Trying to beat him is like playing a game. Except that he knows the rules, and sees the whole board. And I don't.""You don't know his identity," Harold agreed. "But he knows yours. His spy has been by your side all this time, but you don't even know what he's thinking. Indeed, you are at a disadvantage.""So how do I win?" Nicholas asked."By paying attention to the board," Harold replied. "And keeping your eyes on the players. Take Jerome, for example. What do you know about him?""That he leads the second faction," Nicholas said. "And he was controlling the proprietress, before she died.""So he was raised in the orphanage," Ha

  • CHAPTER 133

"There are two factions that call the shots at Familia," Harold began. "I'm sure that by now you've figured out that Familia isn't just an orphanage. It's an organization. One more of the many run by the Belford family.""I'm aware of that," Nicholas confirmed. "It seems farfetched, though, that there would be factions tussling over an orphanage. Organization or not.""The orphanage was one of the patriarch's greatest gold mines," Harold said. "It's one thing to hire goons. It's an entirely different thing to raise them. Nurture them. What's going on in that place isn't just training. It's architecture. Those children are being constructed into weapons. You've met them, haven't you? What was your impression?"Nicholas thought of them. Of those teenagers slinging guns like war veterans, their eyes devoid of any emotion."If they are raised to adulthood like that," he said, "they would be an unstoppable army.""Exactly," Harold replied. "And who wouldn't want control over that unstoppab

  • CHAPTER 132

There were many things that Nicholas had to take in at once.Harold knew that they was there. And he wanted them to join him at his table. And this girl had called him her uncle. It was a lot of unpack. He looked up at the girl, searching for some proof of deceit, but the genuineness in her expression wasn't faked. Whatever Harold was planning, it didn't involve this girl. She probably thought she was inviting her uncle's friends over or something.Nora glanced at Nicholas, silently asking what they should do. Nicholas shrugged and stood up."That's nice of your uncle. Let's go, Nora," he said. The girl beamed."He's right over there," she said, leading the way. They got to the table, and Harold had the nerve to smile at them. As if they were all old friends or something. Nicholas was tempted to tell him how creepy a cheerful expression looked on him."It's good to see you," Harold said. "Nicholas. Nora."Beside him, Nicholas felt Nora shift uncomfortably. How come Harold knew her nam
