Janelle was just about to head home when her phone buzzed.

It was Kiara. She sighed and answered the call.

"Hey, I want to see you. I'll text you an address." Kiara said cheerfully.

Janelle exhaled, rubbing her temple.

"Alright." She stopped by her new place first.

After changing into something more casual, she decided to take a cab to the address Kiara had sent.

She arrived at the restaurant a short while later, only to be pulled into a tight hug the moment she walked in.

"Janelle!" Kiara squealed.

Janelle chuckled, returning the hug with a soft smile. They settled down, catching up for a while before Kiara brought up the dreaded subject.

"So… about the blind date." Kiara began.Janelle groaned internally.

"Why did you stand him up?" Kiara asked, giving her a pointed look.

"I told you already, I didn't. I just mixed up the table numbers. Actually, I think he's the one who got them wrong." Janelle replied, rolling her eyes.

"Well..." Kiara grinned mischievously, "he's he

"Maybe... But I'm taking care of you." She said gently, her hand grazing his cheek. "And part of that means making sure you heal properly. Since I already took two weeks off. You can do the same." Killian watched her in silence for a long moment, then finally nodded. "Alright. You win. I'll call the office." "Good." She said with a bright smile. "That means you're stuck with me. And you better obey me, else I'll punish you." Janelle said. "You're not planning on leaving are you?" "No." He leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead. She smiled, brushing his hair back gently. "I moved away with all my stuff, so I'll have to… um… borrow yours." Killian grinned, his voice low and teasing. "Of course. My girlfriend is free to do whatever she wants." She flushed, but didn't argue. This, this was exactly where she wanted to be. ***** George, Ian Thorn's stepson, walked alone through the dimming streets. School had ended hours ago, but he still hadn't made it

Janelle paused mid-bite, flustered. "That depends. Will you behave?" Killian gave her a lazy smile. "Not likely." She huffed but smiled back, stabbing another piece of toast. "You're impossible." "And you're here." He said quietly, his voice softer now. "That counts for something." Their gazes locked for a beat too long. Then, she raised the next forkful, but Killian caught her wrist gently. "You missed a spot." He said, nodding toward the corner of her mouth. Before she could react, he leaned forward and brushed his thumb against her lip, slowly... deliberately. Janelle froze, heart racing. "I got it." He whispered. The moment stretched thin between them, heated and uncertain. "You should finish your breakfast." She said. Killian smiled. "Only if you stay right here." She nodded slowly, knowing full well she wasn't going anywhere, besides she still felt guilty. Killian chewed slowly, savoring not just the food, but her presence beside him. Then, with a

Janelle didn't move away from him. Being that close, feeling the warmth of his body despite the blood loss, hearing the steady, though slightly labored beat of his heart beneath her cheek… it broke her. "I was so scared." She whispered. "I thought… I thought I'd lose you." Killian's fingers gently threaded through her hair, his touch slow, soothing. "But you didn't. I'm here." She pulled back slightly, just enough to look into his eyes. "You shouldn't have come for me." She said, her voice trembling. "You got hurt because of me." Killian gave her a soft, tired smile, brushing her cheek with his knuckles. "I'd do it again." Janelle stared at him. "Why?" He didn't answer immediately. His gaze lingered on hers. "Because I can't stand the thought of something happening to you." he said finally. "I told myself I could stay away, that it would be safer… easier. But when I saw where you were, when I realized something wasn't right, I didn't think. I just... Ran to you."

  • CHAPTER 88

Janelle called a cab after her short walk, rubbing her arms as a chilly breeze picked up. She sighed and glanced at her watch, that's when she noticed a man approaching, his eyes cold, his stride slow but deliberate. Something about him screamed danger, she instinctively backed up, turning to walk in the opposite direction. But from the corner of her eye, she caught sight of another man this one with bloodshot eyes and a grin that made her skin crawl. Her heart pounded, this was trouble. Without a second thought, she took off running. But she wasn't built for this, not with her asthma. Her breath came in sharp gasps, her legs weakening. The echo of footsteps behind her only made the panic worse. Meanwhile…Killian sat in his study, tapping a pen against his desk. He missed her, more than he wanted to admit. He picked up his phone, hesitating for a moment before checking her location. The last ping showed she'd been at a restaurant. Now she was moving... but t

Owen knew Killian wasn't ready to talk. So he made a decision, it was time to see his sister, really see her and give the apology that was long overdue. He found the address Killian sent and stood in front of the door, heart pounding a little harder than he'd expected. He knocked gently. Inside, Janelle froze. No one should know where she lived. "Who is it?" she called cautiously, her hand hovering near her phone. And gazing a side lamp. It might come in handy, if it was someone dangerous. "It's me, Owen." Her frown deepened. She walked slowly to the door and opened it, not bothering to hide her irritation. "What do you want?" Owen gave her a sheepish smile. "I just wanted to talk. Would you like to grab coffee with me?" Janelle narrowed her eyes at him, clearly not impressed. But then Killian's words echoed in her mind. "Just listen to him." She sighed. "Fine." She slipped on a pair of shoes without another word. Owen let out a quiet breath of relief, she hadn't
