“I don't have that much money for you!” An elderly woman with a flat, cold expression firmly refused his request before Mattheo even had a chance to explain why he needed to borrow the money.
Mattheo clenched his fists tightly, his teeth gritting hard as he dropped to his knees. He put his pride aside and begged Emma, the head of the Murphy family. “I beg you. Elodi's condition has suddenly worsened, and she needs to pay her hospital bills immediately so she can undergo chemotherapy.”
Elodi was the only family Mattheo had left after their parents passed away three years ago, and since then, Elodi's condition had deteriorated. She had been diagnosed with leukaemia and was now in stage three.
“Then what does that have to do with me?” The woman looked at him coldly, her words showing that it was none of her business. “Your sister is your responsibility, not mine, so stop burdening me by coming to borrow money every time you need it.”
Matheo’s father was once the governor of the Rivermoon region. He had more than just a prestigious name and wealth. However, during his leadership, his name was dragged into a major corruption case, leading to legal charges because he couldn’t prove his innocence.
After spending two days in prison, his father was reported to have died of a heart attack. However, the truth was that he was murdered to keep him silent about the corruption case. Upon hearing the news of her husband’s death, his mother, who was already in a weakened state from the shock and disbelief over the corruption charges against her husband, suffered a heart attack and followed him in death.
“You and your family are a major problem, Mattheo!” the woman spat at him, her scowling face emphasising her contempt. “I made a huge mistake three years ago when I made a deal with you.”
Three years ago, Mattheo was forced to take immediate action regarding the fate of the company under his mother’s name, which was facing financial difficulties due to the drastic decline in its stock prices caused by the corruption case involving his father.
He was urged to sell it immediately, but he couldn't bring himself to do it, as it was the last thing he had left that belonged to his parents. Hearing about the situation, Emma offered to help in the form of marriage. She had wanted the March family company for a long time, and now she had her chance.
Mattheo agreed to the deal and married Jasmine Jean Murphy, who was his granddaughter. But the situation he thought would improve only got worse. As long as he was a son-in-law in the Murphy family, he couldn't hold his head up high because of their attitude, which always belittled him.
“You are completely useless. You keep coming to us like a leech, squeezing money out of us for your family's needs. Aren't you ashamed?!”
Mattheo bowed his head deeply.
It wasn't that he didn't work, but they didn't give him a chance. His mother's company, which was a joint venture between them, was now led by Jasmine because they accused him of being incompetent in handling company matters, so he stepped down.
In order not to feel like a parasite in that house, he did whatever they told him to do.
But to be treated like a leech? His anger boiled over.
His head bowed even lower as his fists clenched on his knees, squeezing the fabric of his pants. “Please lend me 1 million dollars. I'll give you all the power over the Murphy family's company afterwards.”
He had already discussed it with Jasmine, but she had told him to talk to Emma, who held the real power.
Emma snorted. She placed her glass arrogantly on the table. “What power are you talking about? The company has already been legally transferred to the Murphy family.”
Mattheo's eyes widened in surprise when he heard this. “No! I never signed any transfer documents.”
The smile on Emma's face looked satisfied as she saw the confusion on Mattheo's face. “You did, you signed it along with your marriage certificate.”
His face was struck by lightning, pale and incredulous. “You tricked me—”
“Don't make accusations, we got it legally. Don't think you can enter this family without giving anything in return, you must be crazy!” she sneered, then signalled to the two guards there to take Mattheo away.
“Now you'd better leave this place, you are no longer of worth to us!”
The two guards dragged him away, even though Mattheo tried to fight back, but their muscular and large bodies made him no match for them.
“Let me go! You can't do this to me!” Mattheo roared in protest. He tried to jump out of their grasp but was quickly caught. “Ma'am, I beg you, at least give me money for my sister's treatment, I need it.”
His voice fell on deaf ears, and his body was thrown out of the gate. Mattheo sat helplessly on the floor. Theo roared, trying to beg again. But the ringing of his phone stopped him.
“Is this Elodi's guardian? We would like to inform you that the patient's condition has entered a critical stage. Elodi is having seizures and must be taken to the treatment room immediately. We ask that you come immediately and take care of the payment, sir.”
He tried to calm himself and replied,
“Okay, I'll be right there! Please do everything you can!” Theo ran out of there, running recklessly, ignoring his body as it bumped into people.
At that moment, his heart felt like it was being squeezed when he saw his sister's body convulsing uncontrollably, held by several medical personnel who were trying to treat her.
Theo couldn't bear to look, his legs unable to move forward. He was filled with fear and guilt.
“Sir, you need to sign the documents and pay the deposit immediately.” A doctor approached him.
Theo turned to look at the man. Then he reached out and grabbed his hand tightly. “Please save my sister first, I'll do anything. I'll pay later, I don't have the money right now.” He bowed his head deeply in front of the man.
The doctor who approached him released Theo's hand. “I'm sorry, sir, but you have to follow the procedure. We can't take any action if you don't.”
“Then you're just going to let my sister die?!” He shouted in pain, stunned by the attitude of the hospital that was supposed to save his sister.
The doctor looked at Theo seriously, glanced around to make sure no one was watching, then approached Theo. “If you need money quickly, there is a way to do it, sir.”
Theo’s eyes widened, and he stared at the doctor seriously. “I’ll do it. Tell me how.”

Scattered recordings of surgery
After successfully saving Leonardo from his coma, Mattheo, who was exhausted from the drain on his energy, chose to stay there for the rest of the day to monitor Leonardo, who was his second patient after Elodi. He seemed more responsible and ambitious than before when he achieved success again.Mark observed this with satisfaction, as he had anticipated. Bringing Mattheo to meet Leonardo, who was on the brink of death, was the right choice to reignite Mattheo’s determination.Mattheo returned home nearly midnight, and this morning, when he woke up, he saw the sky outside was dark, almost ready to pour rain. The cold air was visible through the fogged-up window, contrasting with the tense atmosphere inside Mark Spencer's house that morning. In the living room equipped with a large screen and an advanced sound system, the television was on at a moderate volume. The news broadcast showed a short video clip. A young man entered the ICU, touched a patient in a coma by pressing several poi
Spencer's Secret Clinic
SPENCER'S SECRET CLINIC]Mark turned his attention to Mattheo's leg. He conducted a thorough examination by taking X-rays of the entire leg and found that not only was the tendon damaged, but the knee joint in the same leg and several nerves were also affected, causing his condition to worsen.“Please sit down first, Mr. Theo.” He pulled a chair from behind the desk for Mattheo to sit on.The middle-aged man didn't seem to mind sitting on the edge of the table after helping Mattheo sit down quickly.Their eyes met, and Mattheo felt nervous again under Mark’s serious and heavy gaze, or perhaps more accurately, disturbed. He unconsciously twisted his fingers while swallowing hard.“Your condition has worsened, not just because of the tendon injury.” He took out his phone and showed the X-ray image he had taken. “You previously suffered a minor injury to your knee that wasn't properly treated, but it has gradually caused damage to the nerves around it. I'm sure you haven't been able to r

“How about my sister?” Mattheo turned to Mark, who was sitting next to him.The middle-aged man, who had been staring out the window and watching the road calmly, turned to him. “Do you want to know the results of her examination?”Mattheo nodded. Due to their previous agreement, Mattheo left the hospital and headed to the Spencer family residence while Elodi remained at the hospital for further observation.Mark's calm demeanor turned serious, his shoulders straightened, and his expression questioned something as he stared intently at Mattheo. "The overall test results are not out yet.But the cancer virus in his blood has stopped spreading.”Mattheo's expression relaxed, and his jawline returned to normal. He looked quite relieved. “Is there a possibility that the virus will return in his blood?”He was quite worried about the possibility of the cancer virus reappearing. Even though he had been declared cured, there were quite a few cancer patients who had been declared cured but th

Mark Spencer looked at Mattheo anxiously and quickly stepped closer to him. “Your leg is seriously injured, sir. Didn't I remind you to be careful? It could have been worse.” While helping Mattheo up, he reprimanded him attentively. The tendon injury wasn't life-threatening at first, but it became critical because it wasn't treated immediately, and Mattheo forced himself to keep moving. He prioritized healing Elodi, who was pressed for time, and completely ignored the pain in his leg.Elodi’s eyes met Mark’s with confusion, and that confusion turned into anxiety. “Isn’t it just a sprain?” her eyes demanded confirmation from Mark, who looked at her hesitantly.Mark realized that he had said the wrong thing. He glanced at Mattheo, who shook his head at him, signaling him to remain silent. But, Elodi was impatient with his silence, so Mark turned to Theo. “You said you were fine, so is that a lie? Theo, tell me!” His voice rose, demanding an answer.Theo tried to force a smile in front o
Pathetic situation
“Sit down, let me check how you are.” Mattheo placed his finger on Elodi's pulse. She now looked refreshed, and slowly the woman began to feel her body improving. She smiled happily. “I think I’m healed, Theo.” For the past two years, she had never felt her body as light and comfortable as it did now.Mattheo glanced at her and smiled back. “A little more and all the poison in your body will be completely gone.”He was sure of it; he could feel it in the movement of her blood. Elodi's blood flow was much smoother than before. She no longer looked like a sick person, except that she had not yet fully regained her strength.Elodi turned to the window outside, looked at it warmly, then turned to Matheo. “Theo, can we take a walk outside?”Theo followed her gaze and remembered that Elodi had hardly ever left the hospital room lately because she was undergoing treatment. He nodded his head. “Okay, I'll take you outside.”When her brother got up, Elodi noticed that Mattheo was limping. She

Get your hands off him, you bastard!” The guard of the man whose leg Theo had touched reflexively grabbed Theo’s hand.Meanwhile, the man was stunned by his aide's excessive reaction towards Mattheo, who needed help. “What are you doing?” He reprimanded his aide sternly.“But, sir, he looks like a dangerous person.” The man replied quickly, but then fell silent when a cold stare was directed at him.He then turned his attention to Mattheo.
