"Keith, you useless piece of trash! Just 600 milliliters of blood and you're this weak? Who are you pretending for?"

St. Augustine Memorial Hospital, a sharp voice pierced Keith’s eardrums as he slowly opened his eyes, staring at the furious middle-aged woman before him.

It was Melaine Richardson, his mother-in-law.

“Ma’am, please calm down! It's extremely dangerous for a healthy person to lose 600 milliliters of blood. We can’t take any more from him!”

A nearby nurse couldn’t bear Melaine’s unreasonable behavior and frowned as she tried to warn her.

“Shut up! What would a lowly nurse like you know?! This piece of trash should be volunteered to give my son blood! If it weren’t for my father saving him back then, he would’ve died on the street! What’s 600 milliliters to him?!”

Melanie scoffed. She grabbed a handful of Keith’s hair, sneered at his pale face, and said coldly, “Still alive, aren’t you? Then keep drawing blood! The Richardson family doesn’t raise useless garbage!”

The nurse hesitated, torn between protocol and pressure. "Mrs. Richardson, if I take any more, his heart rate could—"

"You think I care about that good-for-nothing leech?" Melaine hissed. "He married into this family for a roof over his head. The least he can do is keep my son alive."

But thanks to his strong physical constitution, Keith opened his eyes and calmly said to the nurse, “Go ahead and continue the transfusion. I’m fine.”

“Hmph, at least you know your place. Didn’t you hear him? Hurry up and draw the blood!” Melaine shouted smugly. She even felt the nurse was too slow, and began slapping Keith’s arm forcefully, trying to make the blood flow faster.

“Ma’am, please don’t do that! He won’t be able to hold on if this continues!” the nurse tried to stop her, but Melaine slapped her across the face.

“And who the hell do you think you are? This piece of trash hasn’t said a word, and you think you have the right to speak for him?” Melaine snarled viciously.

The nurse trembled with fury at Melaine’s rudeness, but all she could do was lean in and quietly say to Keith, “Sir, if you feel unwell at all, please let me know right away…”

“I…” Keith clenched his teeth, remembering the debt he owed to John, the head of the Richardson family, who had once saved his life. He forced himself to say, “I… can still… hold on…”

But his voice was barely a whisper.

Suddenly, a wave of dizziness washed over him, and Keith collapsed to the floor uncontrollably.

The nurse screamed, “Someone help! He’s gone into shock!”

Melaine scowled and cursed venomously, “Useless trash! Passed out before even reaching 1000 milliliters — why do we even bother keeping him around?”

She showed no concern for the unconscious Keith. Instead, she grabbed a nurse who was trying to help him and barked, “Why are you wasting your time on that garbage? Hurry up and get this bag of blood to the doctor — my son’s life depends on it!”

With that, she strutted off without sparing even a glance at Keith, who lay motionless on the floor.

Outside the hospital room, Keith’s wife, Emilia, was chatting and laughing with a well-dressed man. When Melaine saw them, she immediately put on a cheerful smile.

“Denver, look at you — you’re so busy, yet you still made time to come see Laurent!”

The man was named Denver, Emilia’s suitor. He knew Emilia was married, but he also knew Keith held no real status in the Richardson family.

Denver smiled and said, “Of course. After all, Laurent is Emilia’s younger brother — it’s my duty to help.”

Emilia beamed, adding, “Thanks to the doctor Denver found — they say he’s a top specialist — he might be able to cure my brother’s condition!”

Melaine was overjoyed and said, “That’s wonderful. Honestly, Denver is much more suited to be our Johnson family’s son-in-law. Unlike that piece of trash……”

“If the old man hadn’t lost his mind back then and insisted on you marrying that useless thing…”

Emilia’s expression darkened as she heard Melaine’s words. “Mom, that’s enough. Don’t bring this up again.”

“Why I can't bring it up?” Melaine snapped. “I say, once the doctor Denver found cures your brother, you should divorce that piece of trash immediately! Only a man like Denver is worthy of you!”

Emilia’s face clouded with displeasure, but she didn’t respond.

Seeing her daughter’s reaction, Melaine pursed her lips in frustration. She was determined—no matter what, she would make sure Emilia divorced that useless good-for-nothing!

Just then, the door to the hospital room opened, and the doctor Denver had brought stepped out.

“Doctor, how’s my brother?” Emilia asked quickly.

The doctor frowned and shook his head. “I’m sorry… I don’t think I can cure your brother…”

“What?!” Melaine cried out in shock. “Does that mean my daughter can’t divorce that garbage husband of hers?!”

Denver’s expression turned grim, and he gave the doctor a cold glare. The doctor quickly added:

“No — I mean, it’s beyond my abilities. But if you could find the ‘Miracle Doctor’...”

“The Miracle Doctor, huh? Fine. I’ll get someone to contact him right away to treat Laurent!” Denver replied with confidence.

“But…” the doctor wanted to explain that the Miracle Doctor wasn’t someone just anyone could hire. Someone like Denver, despite his wealth, had no way of even getting his contact.

However, Melaine rudely cut him off: “Since you can’t cure my son, get out already! What are you still doing here?”

Helpless, the doctor could only lower his head and leave.

Seeing the worry on Emilia’s face, Denver said proudly, “Don’t worry, baby. I’ll make sure the Miracle Doctor is here by tomorrow to operate on your brother!”

Looking at Denver’s confident demeanor, Melaine was all smiles. “See? This is the kind of man who should be your husband. Not like that other one, who is even afraid of donating his blood!”

"Afraid? What do you mean by that?" Emilia frowned.

In order to make Emilia despise Keith even more, Melaine began to lie:

"That piece of trash…… he got scared of donating blood to your brother and ran away!"

The revelation about the new pharmaceutical company hit both Keith and Viola like a physical blow. They exchanged a quick glance, their earlier tensions momentarily forgotten in the face of this business threat."Tell us more," Viola said urgently, turning back to Harrison. "What else do you know about this company?""Well," Harrison began, clearly enjoying being the bearer of important information, "from what I've heard, they're bringing in doctors who are known for creating miracles. These aren't your average physicians – they're supposedly at the cutting edge of medical innovation. People who've been treating supposedly incurable conditions."Keith's suspicion immediately spiked. "Miracle workers? That's quite a claim.""That's what they're marketing themselves as," Harrison confirmed. "They're positioning themselves as the answer for patients who've exhausted all other options.""Do you know who owns this company?" Keith asked, his voice tight.Harrison nodded and looked around th

"Do you have any idea how worried I've been?" Keith continued, stepping closer. "You didn't tell anyone where you were going, who you were with, when you'd be back—""I told Linda I was going to dinner," Yona interrupted. "And why would you be worried? I'm nobody important. Just your ex-wife's cousin who you're helping out of charity."Keith flinched at that. "That's not fair.""Isn't it?" Yona asked, her voice hardening. "Oh, by the way, the party is tomorrow. The Blackwater anniversary party. I assume you remember you agreed to go.""I don't care about the party right now," Keith said dismissively. "I care about where you've been and whether you're safe—""Well, as you can see, I'm perfectly fine," Yona said, spreading her arms. "No harm done. Marcus was a perfect gentleman, we had a nice dinner, and I came home. Happy?""No, I'm not happy," Keith said, his frustration evident. Keith stood up abruptly, pacing across the room with agitation. His mind was racing, and he couldn't quite identify the emotion churning in his chest, but it felt uncomfortably like anger."So she just went out? With some random guy she met today?" Keith demanded."I guess so," Linda replied, setting down her journal completely now. "Why? Is something wrong?""Yes, something's wrong!" Keith said, his voice rising. "She told me last night that she had feelings for me. She confessed that she liked me, that it was too painful to watch me with other women. And now, less than twenty-four hours later, she's going on a date?"Linda's eyebrows rose. "She told you she had feelings for you?""Last night in the kitchen," Keith confirmed, still pacing. "She said she liked me and that's why she wanted to move out. She was practically crying about it.""And what did you say to her?" Linda asked carefully."I didn't get a chance to say anything!" Keith exclaimed. "She just told me to pretend I didn'
