"What did you just say?!" Emilia exploded with rage, furious at Keith’s supposed actions.
Though she didn’t like Keith, over the past three years, he had been regularly donating blood to her brother Laurent.
In order to do so, his diet and daily routine were strictly controlled, and he lived in constant suffering.
Because of that, Emilia had felt a trace of guilt toward him.
But now—Keith was actually letting Laurent’s condition worsen and refusing to donate?
That had completely crossed Emilia’s bottom line.
Melaine added fuel to the fire:
"That trash even said he never wanted to give Laurent blood—that it was all because we forced him! He said he’ll never donate again!"
She even pretended to cry, clutching her chest.
"I tried to stop him, but he… he shoved me to the ground!"
"Thank God for Denver. If he hadn’t found that doctor for Laurent, I don’t even know what would’ve happened..."
Hearing Melaine’s words, Emilia felt her fury swell until it overwhelmed her.
She had originally hesitated to divorce Keith—or if she did, she’d planned to at least give him some compensation, to let him live a decent life.
But now…
Now, she felt he didn’t deserve a single ounce of kindness.
Emilia's face flushed with anger as she turned back to Denver, gripping his arm tightly. "You're incredible, Denver. You're doing more for my family than my own husband!"
She pressed closer to him, her voice turning cold. "When Laurent recovers—and I know he will, thanks to you—I'm throwing that useless blood bag out. We won't need him anymore."
Hearing Emilia’s words, Denver curled his lips into a faint smile.
Melaine, too, beamed with joy. “I’ve said it all along — you should’ve dumped that piece of trash ages ago! He’s not worthy of being the Richardson family’s son-in-law. Only Denver deserves you!”
Meanwhile, in Room 304, Keith's eyes fluttered open. The sterile ceiling spun above him like a carousel. A young nurse approached, her expression a mixture of pity and professional obligation.
"Mr. Cross?" she said softly. "You're awake. I need to inform you that your family hasn't arranged payment for your treatment. You'll need to handle the medical bills yourself."
Keith stared at her, the words sinking in like stones in still water. Of course they didn't, he thought bitterly.
"I understand," he said quietly, slowly pushing himself up from the bed.
The nurse's face softened. "Sir, you should rest. You've lost a significant amount of blood—"
"I'm fine." Keith's voice was steady despite the dizziness. He swung his legs over the side of the bed, ignoring the way the room tilted.
Stepping into the hallway, Keith moved unsteadily, one hand trailing along the wall for support. The voices ahead grew clearer with each step—Emilia's laugh, Denver's smooth responses, Melaine's shrill commentary.
He rounded the corner and there they were: Emilia still clinging to Denver's arm like a barnacle on a ship's hull, Emilia gesturing dramatically, all of them standing outside Laurent's room.
Just then, Keith appeared in the hallway.
“I’m telling you now — you’re useless! Denver already found a doctor who can treat my brother. You, the walking blood bag, can get lost!”
Keith trembled with rage. He stared at Emilia. “What are you talking about? When did I ever run away?”
Emilia scoffed. “Still pretending? My mom already told me everything — you shoved her to the ground just to avoid donating blood to Laurent! You ungrateful scum!”
“I shoved your mother… to avoid donating blood?” Keith let out a cold laugh. “That’s what she told you?”
Melaine flinched. Even someone as shameless as her felt a flicker of guilt at being exposed face to face.
Emilia sneered, “Yeah, that’s what she said. Are you saying she lied? She’s my mother — why would she lie to me?”
Keith let out a bitter laugh. “Your mother wouldn’t lie, huh? Then take a good look at me — do I look like someone who hasn’t just donated blood?”
Emilia glanced at him, hesitating. Keith’s pale complexion and clear signs of weakness were hard to ignore.
Afraid her lie would be exposed, Melaine quickly barked, “Stop pretending! Who knows where you spent the night partying — maybe you wasted all your energy fooling around with some slut!”
Emilia’s eyes lit up with sudden realization. She snarled, “So that’s it! You took the Richardson family’s money and went to spend it on other women! And now you’re faking weakness like you actually gave blood? I can’t believe I didn’t see through you sooner!”
Keith let out a laugh — not of amusement, but of sheer disbelief. He was utterly disillusioned with this family.
After the old man who saved him passed away, Keith had stayed on in this household, hiding his identity, repaying a life debt as a silent blood donor.
With a cold voice, Keith said, “Fine. Think of me as a coward. Let’s get divorced — right now.”
Emilia froze. Her brows furrowed. “Right now? What kind of scheme are you pulling? Trying to make things hard for me because I didn’t prepare a divorce agreement?”
“I did.” Melaine suddenly burst into laughter. “I’ve been waiting for this day. I’ve had the divorce papers ready for a long time!”
She triumphantly pulled a folded document out of her bag and handed it to Keith.
Keith’s expression was calm as he took the divorce agreement. “Pen.”
The three of them fell silent — no one had a pen.
“No need.” Keith said calmly.
Melaine sneered. “What, scared to sign after all? I knew it—”
But before she could finish, Keith bit his fingertip, and with his blood, signed his name on the divorce papers.
“You…” Melaine was stunned. The cowardly man who used to flinch at everything had suddenly become bold and fearless. What happened to the weakling?
Keith calmly handed the signed document back. “I’m done. Your turn.”
“You… Keith, don’t think I don’t know what you’re up to!” Emilia was shaken by his boldness, but still tried to sound tough. “You think Laurent is doomed without you? Don’t fool yourself!”
“Denver already contacted the legendary miracle doctor. He’ll be here soon to treat Laurent. You’re useless now!”
“Miracle doctor? Oh… I see.”
Contrary to Emilia’s expectations, Keith showed no rage or panic. He remained calm. “Fine. Then sign.”
"I... I don't have a pen! And don't even think about making me sign it with your barbaric methods!" Emilia shouted.
"Then give it to me tomorrow. I'll come back for it," Keith replied coldly, then turned and walked away without looking back.
“You…!” Emilia stared after his retreating figure. The pleading and begging she expected never came. The divorce had gone smoothly, but she didn’t feel the satisfaction she had imagined.
“My daughter, you’ve finally gotten rid of that trash! So, when are you marrying Denver? We have to throw the grandest wedding this city’s ever seen!”
Denver gazed affectionately at Emilia, but her mind was in turmoil. She replied half-heartedly, “Let’s wait until my brother recovers. I just hope that miracle doctor can really cure Laurent…”
Denver patted his chest confidently. “Don’t worry! I already sent someone to contact him. They told me incredible stories — how he once revived a president whose heart had stopped! He’ll definitely save Laurent!”
Keith didn’t bother watching their pathetic performance. He stepped into the blinding sunlight outside the hospital — reborn.
Suddenly, his phone rang. Seeing the name on the screen, Keith’s heart stirred with excitement.
“Linda? Are you calling with good news?”
A thrilled voice came from the other end:
“Yes! Yes! Just as you instructed, we’ve finally refined the medicine you needed!”
“You can return now — Miracle Doctor.”
