Chapter 162

Pain.

That was the first thing I felt—or thought I felt. Then, nothing.

Just cold.

Then heat.

A blinding, searing heat that spread through every corner of my being, as though my bones were melting and reforming all at once. I wanted to scream, but there was no mouth, no voice, no air.

Only black.

Only fire.

Only silence.

Then… a heartbeat.

Ba-dum.

It echoed like a drum in an empty hall. Slow. Steady.

Ba-dum.

Another. Louder.

Ba-dum.

Then suddenly—

I gasped.

Air tore into my lungs like a flame. My body arched violently off the ground as I sucked in oxygen. My eyes flew open, and all I could see was the night sky above me—stars scattered like shattered glass across the heavens. The moon stared back at me like a witness, cold and judging.

My body—every inch of it—ached, but not in the way it should have.

I blinked, realizing I was still whole.

No blood. No bone fragments. No internal bleeding. No fatal injuries.

Nothing.

I was lying in a shallow crater, the impact of my fall

Chapter 193The knife was still warm in my grip, slick with blood. I wasn’t shaking anymore. I was past fear. Past doubt. Past everything, really. This man had come into my home to end me, and instead, he was the one bleeding out on my rug, whispering about world domination and the end of humanity like it was just a normal thing.I stepped forward again, ready to push harder, make him break—really break. “Are you daring me?” I asked, my voice low and dangerous. The light caught the edge of the blade as I tilted it. One more word. That was all it was going to take. But the word never came. The window shattered.A sharp crack split the air, piercing through the tension like a gunshot—because it was one. A red mist burst from the side of the man's skull before I even registered the sound fully. His body jerked once, then collapsed backward like a puppet with its strings cut.I froze. Everything in me turned to ice.“ZEE!” I shouted instinctively, dropping low, my heart hammering as glass

Chapter 192It was all exhausting for me. Like I was starting another war entirely, and this time around, I was not even sure if I was going to make it out of it alive. That moment when you felt it was over, you felt like you had done enough for humanity to want a space of peace and sanity, but fate managed to throw another chaos into your perfect world. I stared at him—hard. His words weren’t just cryptic; they were nuclear. Every nerve in my body was screaming for answers, and this bastard sat there bleeding on my rug like he was reading a bedtime story.“What the hell do you mean by perfected?” I growled, gripping his shirt collar and yanking him upward. His head lolled forward, blood trailing from his mouth. “You really don’t know?” he muttered, the words slurred but deliberate. “God, that makes this even better.”“Start talking,” I snapped. “Right now.”“Do you honestly think you were the strongest, the best?” He asked, staring at my face. “How many of us are out there?” I dro

Chapter 191The room plunged into darkness the moment I blew out the candle. Everywhere went into total darkness, and all I could hear was the faint breath of my enemy, and then… silence. My heartbeat slowed. This wasn’t fair. It was focused. He moved again.A shuffle to my left—barefoot. Light, fast. He wasn’t just skilled—he was trained. Probably ex-military. Or worse… council-born.I ducked instinctively, my body reacting before my mind even caught up. His blade swung in the air above me, slicing through where my neck had been just a second earlier.I used my crouch to launch myself forward, shoulder slamming into his torso. We both went down hard, grunting. His knife scraped my ribs—just a scratch. I could feel a drop of blood trickle down my side. He rolled, swift and silent, and I let him go. I didn’t want to kill him. Not yet. Not until I got answers. Not until I know who sent him to get me. I stood and reached for the switch on the wall. With a quick flick, the emergency li

Chapter 190 Trust? Trust was overrated for someone like me. Ever since I had Edwin locked behind bars, I have been looking over my shoulders. The cryptic message I got was more than a red flag for me. I knew what I needed to do. I knew my enemies then, but now, I don't. The fear was there even though I knew I couldn't be hurt. The thought of someone coming for me anytime was more hurtful than I cared to admit. The staff trembled in my hands, a symbol of both challenge and desperation. Xavier didn’t flinch. Not even a blink. He looked at the tip of the bamboo like it was a flower, not a threat. I could see the gentle look on his face even though I was scared. Xavier had taught me to read emotions and pain. I don't need to look at my opponent too much before I know how to attack. During combat, a quick look at your opponent could help you decipher their next move. “Easy,” he said gently. “You’re angry. Good. Hold on to that. But don’t turn it on me.” Angry? I w

Chapter 189Another war was brewing, and the fact that I didn't know who it was, when I was going to fight, was making it even harder. I mean, I could have just won a war only to find myself in another. It was quite a dilemma. I don't know if I should tell Marcus and Ren. They wouldn't believe me, so I decided to keep it to myself.I barely slept that night. The envelope stayed on the table beside me like a ticking bomb—silent, unassuming, but every time I closed my eyes, I could feel its weight pressing into my chest. Those words burned into my mind like a brand: “Edwin was never the head—he was the hand.”I mean, all these years. All this fight and battle only to find out that Edwin was never the threat. Nathan had died a misguided death, and of course, he was paying for his crimes.Mrs Alisha had thrown an after-party to invite as many of my friends as possible. I didn't have many; most of them were those who were either jealous of the man I had become, or they came to pass the ti

Chapter 188At first, I couldn't believe it was all over. Should I say it was too easy? Or the fact that my plan has worked out. I knew Edwin was always one step ahead. But I was surprised to see that my moves were not countered.Edwin was arrested. Right there, in the underground tunnels beneath the academy, surrounded and outnumbered, he didn’t even try to fight back. Maybe he knew it was pointless. Maybe he thought there was still a way to twist things in his favor.I had the mind to arrest Daniel, too, for threatening me, but he was nowhere to be found. Many of the students who had thought I had joined hands with Edwin were surprised to see that the table was turned when he was caught in the act. A satisfactory smile was visible on my lips, and I could see the look of disbelief on his face, like he was not expecting me to have him nabbed. But I was too smart. I had lots of experience from dealing with Nathan and Leo's words of advice, which was more than enough for me to use to
