Chapter 25

As I stepped my feet on the school ground, a lot of eyes were fixed on me. I was not some ordinary student anymore. I was now the face of the school.

“ Did you see the video clip that is going viral?”

“ The one that Adrian Hayes knocked some sense into Jack's head? Of course, I saw it.”

“ I was surprised. How come Adrian has been behaving like a dummy all this while? Has he been laying low for a day like this?”

“ I was surprised when I saw the video of him beating the crap out of Jack. I am sure Nathan is going to be wary of him now.”

“ If by the word weary, you mean ‘sacred', then I am one hundred percent with you on that.”

As I walked, I could hear the whispering, and gosh, it felt so good. I loved that I was gaining ground, that I was no longer someone to be brushed aside like I didn't matter.

Even the name Hayes meant little to them. I needed to show more accomplishment, and then the name would shine.

My gaze caught a signpost not too far from the school's groun

Chapter 122My ears were still ringing. The air tasted like copper and ozone. The stun grenade had done its job, knocking my senses out of sync. My head throbbed like a drumline pounding against a cracked skull, and my eyes struggled to adjust to the dim light of wherever the hell we were.Concrete walls. Flickering bulbs. The smell of mildew and burnt circuitry. We were underground—possibly beneath the rail station, in one of the old maintenance tunnels. Chains clinked as I shifted, wrists bound to a rusted pipe overhead.Beside me, Juno stirred, groaning. Blood matted her hair to her cheek, and her lip was split. But she was alive. And so was Nathan.A part of me wanted to use my power but still I tried to calm myself down trying to hear what he had to say. He sat in a worn leather chair like a king presiding over a fallen kingdom. He raised his glass—something amber and expensive-looking—and gave us both a mocking toast.“Welcome back to consciousness,” he said smoothly. “Took you

Chapter 121Juliet paused. Her eyes flickered slightly, betraying a hint of confusion—or was it fear?“She said she needed some air,” Juliet answered slowly. “Left about thirty minutes ago. Didn’t say where she was going,” she said walking past me. My chest tightened. “And you let her go?”Julliet looked back to stare at me, “She’s a grown woman, Adrian,” she snapped, folding her arms. “She didn’t exactly ask for permission. I figured you knew.”I stared at her a moment longer, then turned away. My mind raced.Juno never just left without checking in—especially not when things were this tense. She knew I was going to follow the lead she sent to me even though I shouldn't have gone alone. “ What you did.” Julliet looked back from trying to have the fridge opened. “ It was risky.”I didn't say a word but simply stormed into my room, grabbing my tablet. I keyed in her tracking frequency, hoping the chip in her pendant still worked. A soft beep echoed in the room.Searching…Searching

Chapter 120One minute they were on the floor, and the next, I couldn't see anything. “Get out of there now!” I heard Juno's voice, and I immediately ran through the forest. My mind went back to the strange figure I had fought, and for a brief moment, I thought I knew who I was fighting with. “Are they safe?” I asked over the com. “Tell me, Ren and Marcus were able to escape.” “They are safe, Adrian. We are going to talk when you are home.” Juno finally said, and the line went dead. I started the car, and I drove like a maniac into the street. I looked back each time to make sure I was not followed. My thoughts went back to Juno, and I wondered how she didn't know it was a trap. “Could she be working for Nathan?” I asked myself as I cleaned the blood off my hands. I need to know if Juno was for me or against me. I remembered the hurdles we had passed through together. The thought of her betraying me was the last thing on my mind, but still, I needed to be sure. I grabbed my phon

Chapter 119“If you know what is good for you, then you are going to stay out of my way!” I said with anger. “Wow!” Jack said, laughing as he walked out of the darkness, and he stood. “Don't you think you are supposed to be afraid? You ought to beg me and pray that I don't kill you.” I laughed as I cracked some bones around my neck. “Don't you think it is supposed to be the other way round?” I said, walking back towards him. “You watch as Nathan's bullet robbed Park of his life. I am only sad that Nathan won't be here to see you die as I kill you slowly.” I said with venom in my voice. Jack didn’t flinch. His coat fluttered slightly as he rested on a part of a tree. “I figured you'd say something melodramatic like that,” he replied coolly, tilting his head as if he were trying to read me. “The problem is, Adrian, you still think this is about Park.”“What the hell did you do, Jack?” I hissed, circling slightly.Jack’s smile never dropped. “I opened the door. Nathan gave me the key,

Chapter 118The moon had risen higher now, casting pale silver over the thick canopy of the forest. My breath clouded the air as I stood perfectly still, hidden in shadow. I need to make sure I was able to give Ren and Marcus a head start. I glanced back a few times, making sure they were long gone. The silence didn’t last.Crack.The first mercenary stepped through a patch of ferns, sweeping his rifle in a slow arc. He wore the same cybernetic mask, glowing red eyes scanning for movement. Behind him, two more figures fanned out, silent and deliberate—wolves hunting their prey. But they weren't ready for me.My hands curled into fists. The bones in my knuckles cracked audibly, my skin tightening as the heat flared beneath it. I’d suppressed it for so long. The thing inside me. The one Jack said made me a monster. But tonight… Tonight I was done hiding.I stepped forward. The mercs noticed me immediately, their weapons jerking up—but it was already too late.A pulse of raw kinetic ener

Chapter 117The air was thick with tension. I didn’t move. I just stared at him, the image of his smug, composed face made me want to give him a dirty slap. A part of me wanted to laugh at the absurdity of it all. A deal? After everything?I stepped closer, just slightly, enough to make his fingers twitch. He was trying to play calm, but I could see it—the subtle flicker of nerves behind his eyes.“You think I came all the way here just to talk?” I said, voice low and calculative. “After what you did to those kids? After what you did to Park? And you stand there with your legs crossed like some fucking priest asking me to repent?”Jack sighed, almost bored. “You’re too emotional, Adrian. That’s always been your flaw. It makes you reckless.”“No,” I said quietly, “it makes me dangerous.”Behind me, a floorboard creaked—the signal. Marcus was in position. Ren would be watching us through the back window, ready to move the second things went sideways.Jack leaned back in his chair, fol
