102: The Fragments That Stay
It’s been two weeks since Ren Carter last saw his sister and his aide. These weeks have passed in a blur. He was barely functional, except for the occasional visits to the academy where he was queried time and time again about what transpired in the biotech lab. He stopped going to the hospital, neglected his duties as director without any care in the world. The calls poured in day by day, the emails too. The calls from home were ignored and declined. The assassin would not disclose who sent him to attack Ren. He just launched further attack with everything he got. It rained gunshots non-stop for the next ten minutes. The air stank with gunpowder and the walls cracked under the pressure. The siblings stayed that way for a long time, weeping and holding each other. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” Ren pleaded the whole time. His heart tore with grief and relief.
