Isha stood paralyzed, the blood in his veins turning to ice. The man standing before him wasn’t just a lookalike, he was a broken reflection of Isha’s own future. His father, a man he had mourned for a decade, stood there with a smirk that made Isha’s skin crawl. Beside him, Sunita was shaking violently, though she kept her grip on his hand tight. They were surrounded by a dozen agents, their laser rifles locked onto their chests.
"Father?" Isha’s voice was a dry rasp, barely audible over the menacing hum of the weapons.
The man gave a short, cold laugh. The burn scar on his face twisted as he took a slow breath. "Don’t call me that. Here, I am simply the Commander. And you, Isha, are the most precious anomaly we have ever created."
Isha didn't wait for an order. He felt the energy surging through his veins. He had to move before they could activate the dimensional dampeners on their belts. Isha slammed his foot down, triggering a shockwave that shattered the floor beneath them. In a split second, he pulled Sunita down into the newly formed cavern, narrowly avoiding a volley of laser fire that scorched the air where they had been standing a heartbeat before.
They tumbled into a dark, damp basement. The thunderous crackle of gunfire echoed from above as the remnants of the warehouse ceiling were pulverized. Isha scrambled to his feet, dragging Sunita behind a rusted iron pillar for cover.
"Listen, we need to find a way out of here," Isha whispered, his breath coming in sharp gasps. "I know the layout of this facility from the data I stole. If we can reach the control room, I can breach their security and trigger a global alarm."
Sunita wiped the dust from her face, her eyes burning with an unexpected resolve. "Then go. I’ll cover you. Give me that weapon."
Sunita snatched up a laser pistol that had fallen from one of the agents they’d taken out earlier. Her hands were steady despite the chaos in her heart. They began to crawl through a narrow corridor draped with sagging electrical cables. Isha could feel the thrum of energy all around them; the facility was crawling with anomaly sensors tuned specifically to his signature.
They came to a sudden halt at a dead end, but Isha spotted a computer terminal embedded in the wall. It was a primary access node. Isha pressed his palm against the panel. His silver energy surged into the interface, jump-starting the dead circuits until they glowed with a brilliant blue light.
"Sunita, watch the door!" Isha commanded.
Sunita stood at the mouth of the corridor, her eyes scanning the darkness. Isha’s fingers began to fly across the keys with supernatural speed.
Her eyes glowed silver, processing thousands of lines of code in seconds. She found the location of the organization's slush funds, the very money used to finance their hunt. Sunita was right. Through her business connections, Isha could trace the flow of these funds to a main headquarters hidden beneath a massive office building downtown.
"Isha, someone's coming!" Sunita shouted.
Isha didn't look back. Her focus remained locked on the screen. "Hold them off a little longer!"
Isha pulled the final batch of data. The leader's identity flashed across the screen. It wasn't her father. It was a woman named Director Mi-young, her father's longtime associate who had been pulling the strings from the shadows all along. Isha froze. Her father was nothing more than a manipulated pawn.
Suddenly, a massive explosion rocked the hallway behind them. The man in the gray cloak emerged from the smoke, flanked by five heavily armed agents. Sunita fired her laser at them, but the attack was deflected by an energy shield the man had conjured.
"Surrender!" the man yelled. "There is no way out!"
Isha took a deep breath. She had the location. She spun around, her eyes fixed sharply on her father. "I know who is really controlling you, Dad. Mi-young is using you!"
The man paused, his smirk fading. Isha seized the moment. She concentrated all her remaining energy into her right hand. She was no longer manipulating time to flee, but to blow the room's security system. The underground chamber shook violently. Water pipes burst, spraying scalding steam that enveloped everyone in a thick fog.
Isha grabbed Sunita's hand and they bolted through the steam. They made it out through an emergency exit to the building's ground floor. Outside, heavy rain drenched the dim city. They ran toward a car parked far down the street corner.
Inside the car, Sunita tried to catch her breath. Her face was pale, but her eyes were bright with adrenaline. Isha turned the ignition and the engine roared to life, leaving the underground facility behind. Isha looked at Sunita. She couldn't hold back anymore. The tension they had endured all day broke into an intense, intimate desire.
Isha pulled Sunita close to her seat. She kissed Sunita hungrily, a kiss fueled by relief and explosive passion. Sunita matched her intensity, her fingers tangling in Isha's hair. Amidst the pouring rain and the constant threat of death, they found an escape in each other's arms.
"I was afraid of losing you," Isha whispered between kisses.
"You'll never lose me," Sunita replied, staring into Isha's eyes which still glowed silver.
The car sped through the night. Isha knew where they had to go. The organization's main facility was located right beneath the office where they had been working all this time. They were going back to where it all began. Isha glanced at the navigation screen showing the coordinates of the enemy headquarters.
"Tomorrow, we end this," Isha said in a cold, determined voice.
Sunita rested her head on Isha's shoulder, her hand still gripping her laser weapon tightly. "I'm with you until the end, Isha. No matter what happens."
The car vanished around a dark corner, leaving behind a city unaware that beneath its streets, the world's two most wanted fugitives were plotting the downfall of its most powerful secret organization. However, as Isha merged onto the main highway, she saw a large black shadow tailing them. It was a military helicopter bearing the organization's symbol, training a sharp spotlight on their car.
"They've found us," Sunita muttered, checking the rearview mirror.
Isha floored the gas. The engine roared, but the helicopter was much faster. The spotlight was now directly over their roof, flooding the cabin with blinding light. Isha knew she had no choice. She had to freeze time over this entire area, even though she knew the toll on her body could be fatal.
She looked at Sunita, offering a faint, bittersweet smile in case she didn't survive. "Take the wheel," Isha said, letting go of the steering wheel.
"What are you doing?" Sunita asked frantically.
Isha didn't answer. She closed her eyes, focusing every ounce of her energy on a single point above the helicopter. The world seemed to stop turning. The falling rain froze in mid-air, turning into thousands of suspended ice crystals. The helicopter hung motionless, its engine noise vanished, and the spotlight illuminating them froze in place.
Isha opened her eyes. Her vision was blurred. She felt an agonizing pain in her head, as if a blade were being driven into her brain. She knew she only had seconds before her power completely gave out. She stepped out of the car, walking slowly through the frozen world toward the low-hovering helicopter.
Reaching the helicopter, she saw the man in the gray cloak standing at the door, holding a now-active dimension-locking device. The man looked at Isha with a gaze full of regret.
"I'm sorry, Isha," the man said. "But you have to go."
Just as Isha prepared to launch a kinetic blast at the device, she felt a cold hand grip her shoulder from behind. It wasn't a human hand. It was the hand of something that had been watching them from beyond dimensions. At that same moment, Sunita, still in the car, screamed as she watched Isha slowly begin to fade into particles of silver light drifting through the air!

Chapter 5 Battle in the Time Corridor
