Roxana’s shoulders slumped, an absolute, crushing dejection washing over her. Seeing absolutely no hope left, she closed her folder, her eyes shining with unshed tears as she prepared to stand up and leave.

Lorenzo set his glass down with a soft clink.

"I think Ms. Vance is an incredibly capable leader, and her project is revolutionary," Lorenzo spoke up, his voice cutting through the sullen mood. He looked directly into Victoria’s eyes. "Take the contract. Show it to the President."

Victoria didn't hesitate for a single microsecond. She bowed her head instantly, reaching out to take the folder back. "Understood. If you believe it has merit, I will deliver it to the President's desk personally before the night ends."

Roxana blinked, completely stunned by the sudden reversal. She turned to Lorenzo, her heart hammering with a mix of overwhelming gratitude and deep puzzle. "Lorenzo...thank you, but... what exactly is your relationship with the President of Vanguard Apex? Why did she listen to you?"

Lorenzo leaned closer, a playful, incredibly handsome smirk dancing on his lips. "To be completely honest with you? I’m actually the ultimate owner of Vanguard Apex and the entire Lancaster Empire."

Roxana let out a soft, breathy laugh, rolling her eyes as the tension left her body. "You must be joking. Seriously, tell me the truth."

Lorenzo chuckled lightly, nodding along. "Alright, fine, you caught me. I don't own it. But I happen to know the President very well. I managed to perform a massive favor for her a few years back, so she owes me quite a few IOUs."

"Oh, so that's your little secret," a loud, mocking voice sneered from behind the lounge sofa.

Chloe walked into the VIP section, holding a fresh glass of champagne, her eyes dripping with pure contempt as she glared down at Lorenzo. "No wonder a broke loser like you was able to trick your way through the front doors with a silver card. It turns out this 'President' woman is secretly helping you behind the scenes because of some old favor."

Chloe scoffed loudly, having never actually heard the elusive, mysterious President's name in high society before.

In her ignorance, she genuinely assumed "President" was just a title for a mid-level, ordinary manager inside the massive corporate structure of Vanguard Apex.

"Enjoy your little playground while it lasts, Lorenzo," Chloe taunted, leaning in. "Because once Justin signs our ten-million-dollar contract tonight, your little manager friend won't be able to save you from being crushed. This is only the beginning—the subsequent profits from partnering with the Lancaster Group are unpredictable."

Roxana’s breath hitched as she stared at Chloe and Justin stepping smoothly into the VIP lounge. Her hands grew cold against her leather folder. "Chloe? How are you even inside?"

Chloe threw her head back, her gold sequins catching the crystal chandelier light as she let out a loud, mocking laugh. "Surprised, Roxana? We were able to enter with the direct help of Manager Harold. He happens to be a senior manager here at Vanguard Apex with far higher authority than that little Director Victoria who escorted you in. So you can stop putting on airs. The massive partnership contract today will definitely be mine."

In reality, Harold was currently sweating bullets in the back offices. He had merely caught a brief, unauthorized glimpse of President Lancaster’s master contract sheet on a secure terminal before the system locked him out.

He had spotted Roxana Vance’s name being processed on a preliminary partner list, but he had absolutely no authority whatsoever to interfere with or dictate which enterprise Vanguard Apex chose to partner with. He had simply ushered Justin and Chloe inside to save face, keeping his fingers crossed.

Lorenzo didn’t even look up from his drink, swirl-mixing his champagne with a terrifyingly calm demeanor. "How can you be so absolutely sure about that, Chloe?"

"How?" Chloe preened proudly, leaning her hip against the plush sofa arm. "Thanks to Justin’s elite status, we got exclusive inside information well in advance. The Lancaster inner circle already hand-picked my firm."

Lorenzo let out a soft, cold sneer, setting his glass down with a click. "The contract hasn't been officially signed or announced yet. Maybe Vanguard Apex will change its mind at the last second and decide to cooperate entirely with Roxana."

The absurdity of his statement caused Chloe to completely break down into a fit of shrill laughter.

"How is that even remotely possible, Lorenzo?! That near-bankrupt little tech company of hers? Her family has become an absolute laughingstock and an embarrassment to the entire Hawthorne lineage! Every reputable investment firm and high-society mogul in this city has already pulled their funding from Vance Tech. There is zero hope for her to get this contract. How could a charity case like her possibly compare to my conglomerate, which pulls in over fifty million dollars a year?"

Justin nodded aggressively, tugging at his velvet lapels to project an aura of immense power. "Exactly. Let's not forget that Chloe was formally selected as one of the city's top ten outstanding young female entrepreneurs this year. Her business acumen and corporate genius mindset are recognized by everyone in the upper echelons."

Lorenzo’s gaze shifted to Chloe, his eyes filled with a deep, silent disdain. It was almost tragic how blind she was.

Every single lucrative contract, every massive supply-chain break, and every elite award Chloe had received over the last two years had been quietly dropped into her lap solely because of Lorenzo’s behind-the-scenes engineering.

Yet, she genuinely believed it was all due to her own hard work and brilliant mind. She was standing on a mountain of his making, complacently proud of herself while looking down on the woman who had actually saved his life.

Roxana swallowed hard, the weight of her stepmother’s two-day ultimatum pressing heavily against her chest.

If her proposal failed tonight, she would be dragged right back to Lord Barry Sterling’s horrific estate. Her lower lip trembled slightly as she looked down at her folder. "Lorenzo... what if they really don't pick me?"

Lorenzo smoothly shifted closer, placing his arm firmly around her shoulders and squeezing reassuringly. "Hey. Look at me," he murmured, his voice an unyielding shield against the noise of the room. "I told you, the universe favors the brave. Trust me. You’ve already won."

Chloe scoffed loudly, raising her glass toward them in a mocking toast. "Keep whispering your sweet little lies, Lorenzo. It’s a good coping mechanism for losers."

A sharp, melodic tone reverberated through the grand ballroom's surround-sound system, instantly silencing the chatter of hundreds of high-profile guests. The house lights dimmed into a dramatic, deep blue hue, and a brilliant spotlight illuminated the main stage.

A glamorous female host walked gracefully up to the microphone, her evening gown glittering under the lights. "Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, dignitaries, and titans of industry. Welcome to the annual Vanguard Apex Gala. I am thrilled to announce that our banquet is officially beginning!"

The crowd applauded politely, shifting their attention entirely to the stage.

"Tonight is an extraordinary milestone for our enterprise," the host continued, her voice filled with professional excitement. "Two incredibly momentous events will happen on this stage tonight. First, the three domestic partner companies that will enter into an exclusive, multi-billion-dollar deep cooperation with Vanguard Apex will be officially announced today! And second... our reclusive, visionary supreme boss—the absolute head of the Lancaster Empire—will officially appear and speak to the public for the very first time tonight!"

  • Lesson Of Your Life.

The moment those words left Lorenzo’s mouth, Captain Julio’s entire posture shattered. The stern, authoritative expression on the captain's face evaporated into pure shock. His eyes widened as he stared intently at Lorenzo's face, the sharp morning light highlighting Lorenzo's high cheekbones, dark, piercing eyes, and absolute, immovable composure. Julio took a sharp, breathless gasp. The blood drained from his face so fast he looked like he might faint. He remembered. Six months ago, when the Imperial Manor—the legendary, multi-billion-dollar luxury estate sprawling across the highest hill of the complex, a property so expensive it had sat empty for years—was finally sold, the transaction had been handled in absolute, total secrecy. No media, no public records. Only one man had ever come to the estate office in person to finalize the private biometric clearance. Julio had been the one to personally verify his identity. He had stood in that private vault, looking at a black sec

  • Following Protocol.-part2

In the entire Grand Horizon estate, Vivian was infamous. She wasn't just wealthy; she was notoriously, unapologetically hot-tempered. The residents all remembered the incident from six months ago—a wealthy tech executive's unleashed golden retriever had accidentally peed on the toe of Vivian's limited-edition designer boots. When the arrogant owner had refused to apologize and instead laughed it off, saying it was just a shoe, Vivian hadn't argued. The very next morning, the executive’s entire family had packed up their belongings in total silence, sold their multi-million-dollar penthouse at a massive loss, and vanished from the city overnight.Wild rumors had swirled through the complex ever since. People whispered in hushed tones that Vivian’s family ran massive, shadowy underground syndicates, and that anyone who crossed her ended up at the bottom of the river feeding the fish. From that day on, no resident in Grand Horizon dared to walk a dog within fifty feet of her path.

  • Following Protocol.-part1

The moment Vivian’s cold, sharp voice echoed from the open window of her matte-black supercar, the air around the iron gates of Grand Horizon seemed to freeze solid. The security guard, who just a second ago had been puffing out his chest and threatening Lorenzo, felt his knees turn to water. He swallowed hard, his hands trembling as he gripped the edge of his tablet. "M-Miss Vivian...I...I didn't mean..." Vivian didn't even look at the guard’s terrified face. She slowly reached up, slipping off her dark designer sunglasses, revealing a pair of sharp, brilliant eyes that looked like they were carved from polished jade. When Lorenzo’s phone had rung earlier that morning, Vivian had still been lounging in her silk robes, completely unimpressed by her grandfather's relentless nagging about bringing in a "personal protector." She had picked up the line with every intention of telling the man on the other end to beat it. But the second she hit answer, she didn't hear a hired thug or a

  • Who Said This Man Cannot Enter?

The guard let out a loud, incredulous laugh, shaking his head as if he had just heard the funniest joke of his life. "Are you serious right now? You? An owner here?" The guard pulled out his electronic tablet, slapping the screen with his hand. "Listen to me, you delusional piece of trash! I have the entire master registry for Grand Horizon right here on this screen! I know every single owner who lives in these towers. I know their names, their faces, and the cars they drive. Every single person on this list is a high-ranking official, a corporate titan, or an heir to a legacy family! Your name isn't on this list!" The guard leaned over the iron barrier, pointing his stylus directly at Lorenzo's chest. "The only entry on this entire system without a public name attached is the buyer of Imperial Manor—the single most expensive, exclusive property in the entire complex, worth hundreds of millions! And you're telling me you're an owner? Look at what you're wearing! You look like a beg

  • Unchecked Identity.

Chloe’s fake smile evaporated into a sharp, ugly scowl. "Following you?! Don't flatter yourself, you arrogant loser! We live here—or rather, Justin's family owns property here! What right do you have to question us?" Justin stepped forward, his eyes narrowing into venomous slits as he glared at Lorenzo. "I offered you a hand once, didn't I? I offered to throw you a bone, get you a low-level job so you wouldn't starve on the street with that pathetic little firm you cling to. But you were too proud. You spat in my face with your dirty little tricks." Justin gestured grandly toward the massive iron gates of Grand Horizon, a nasty, victorious grin breaking across his pale features. "And now look at you. Standing outside the gates of a place you'll never be able to afford, begging to get in. What are you even doing here, Lorenzo? Trying to apply for a security guard position? Trying to hold the door open for real men?" Justin shook his head, letting out a patronizing laugh. "Let me giv

  • Vivian’s Private Residence.

The morning sun filtered through the towering glass of Grand Horizon, the most exclusive residential estate in the city. The entire complex was a fortress of extreme wealth, surrounded by polished stone walls, lush gardens, and an entrance guarded by iron gates that looked like they belonged to a palace rather than an apartment complex.Lorenzo stepped off the sidewalk, adjusting the cuffs of his dark, understated jacket. He glanced down at his phone, reading the text message sent directly from the grandfather of the Abram’s family:“Vivian’s Private Residence, The Grand Horizon Penthouse. The keycard access has been updated. Good luck moving in today, Lorenzo. She needs a firm hand.”This was the commission. To ordinary eyes, Lorenzo was a man taking on a bodyguard or chaperone duty for a rich heiress. In reality, moving into the residence was a strategic maneuver, placing him in the private quarters of Vivian.Lorenzo approached the security booth at the main iron gate. A tall guard
