The wood of the gate groaned, a sickening sound of splintering fibers that vibrated through the soles of Bima’s boots. Outside, the creature—a jagged, lupine monstrosity with hide like matted wire and eyes that burned with a sickly, necrotic violet—threw its weight against the timber again.

Bima stumbled back, his shoulder hitting the cold stone of the inner wall. He clutched a heavy, rusted iron pipe, his knuckles white.

"Not today," Bima hissed, his breath hitching in his chest. "You’re not coming in. I swear, you’re not taking this place."

The beast let out a low, guttural chortle, more like grinding stones than an animal sound. It slammed against the barricade again. The hinges screamed, and a hairline fracture raced down the center of the oak planks.

"Damn it! It’s going to snap!" Bima shouted at the empty air, his voice cracking with the frantic edge of pure, unadulterated terror. "Think, Bima! Think! If it gets through, you’re dead. You’re literally meat. Do you really want to end up as a snack for a mangy stray?"

He looked around the cramped foyer of his small, fortified shelter. It was little more than a scavenged room in the ruins of the old city, but it was his. His hands shook so violently that he dropped the pipe, the clang echoing like a death knell.

"Stupid! Pick it up!" He scrambled to the floor, grabbing the cold metal. "Why is this happening now? I just wanted a decent night’s sleep. Is that too much to ask? Seriously, universe, give me a break!"

As he stared at the splintering door, a translucent, ethereal blue light began to coalesce in the air before his eyes. It pulsed with a rhythmic hum, like a heartbeat, weaving itself into sharp, geometric edges.

A crisp, synthetic chime echoed inside his skull, freezing him in place.

“Guardian System initializing… Connection to the legacy of Týr established.”

Bima blinked, waving his free hand through the flickering blue light. "What? Is this a hallucination? Am I finally cracking up? This is it—I’ve lost my mind."

“Tutorial Quest: The First Stand. Objective: Reinforce the breached perimeter. Reward: Attribute Point x1.”

"A system? Like those trashy webnovels I used to read?" Bima leaned closer, his fear momentarily eclipsed by bewilderment. "Are you kidding me? A tutorial? Right now? You couldn't have popped up when I was scavenging for cans?"

The beast outside gave a colossal shove. The upper hinge sheared off with a spray of wood chips. A claw, tipped with bone-white razors, hooked through the gap, slashing at the air inches from Bima’s face.

"Okay, okay! Point taken!" Bima scrambled backward, his heart hammering against his ribs. "Reinforce the gate. How? With what? I’ve got nothing but junk!"

He looked at the Interface, which now highlighted the heavy cross-beam leaning against the corner of the room. A glowing neon arrow pulsed over it.

"That? You want me to use that?" Bima grabbed the timber. It was heavy, wet with rot, but sturdy. "This thing weighs a ton! I can barely lift it on a good day!"

“Current Strength: 8. Required for manual fortification: 10. Bonus Modifier applied: Týr’s Resolve.”

Suddenly, a surge of heat flooded Bima’s limbs. It wasn't the shaking of adrenaline anymore; it was a cold, precise power that settled into his muscles, tightening his grip and grounding his stance.

"Whoa," Bima gasped, feeling the beam lighten in his grip as if it were carved from balsa wood. "Okay… okay, I see how it is. You’re actually going to help, huh?"

He hoisted the heavy wood, his movements fluid and strangely effortless. The beast threw its weight against the gate again, a massive thud that shook the entire wall.

"Come on then, you overgrown rug!" Bima screamed, his fear transforming into a jagged, desperate defiance. "Let's see you try to push through this!"

He wedged the beam into the wall mounts. It slid into place with a satisfying, metallic click that seemed to echo with a strange, ancient finality. He jammed the secondary supports in, creating a reinforced X-brace across the center of the rotting door.

"That should hold for a minute," Bima panted, stepping back and wiping sweat and grime from his forehead. "Are you happy now? I did it. Can I have my reward?"

“Objective complete. Reinforcement successful.”

A golden prompt bloomed in his vision.

“Attribute Point awarded: +1. Allocation pending.”

Bima stared at the hovering '1'. His hand hovered over it, his fingertips brushing the blue light. "Wait, this is real. This is actually real. I’m not crazy."

He felt a sudden, sharp ache in his chest—not from the exertion, but from the realization of how close he’d come to ending. He slumped against the wall, sliding down until he hit the floor, his laughter bubbling up, thin and hysterical.

"You have no idea how much I needed this," Bima whispered to the empty room. "I was terrified. I thought I was done for. I’m just a guy, you know? I’m just trying to make it to the next sunrise."

He looked at the gate. The beast had stopped its assault, seemingly confused by the newfound resistance. It circled outside, its pacing rhythmic and slow.

"Yeah, keep walking," Bima muttered, his voice finding a new, steadier rhythm. "You’re not coming in. I’ve got a system now. I’ve got Týr’s backing. You don't know who you're messing with."

He stood up, his legs feeling sturdier, his mind clearer. He focused on the attribute point. "Strength. Put it into Strength. If I’m going to survive this nightmare, I need to be able to hit back."

As the point vanished into his stats, a warm glow rippled through his veins. He clenched his fist, feeling the subtle hardening of his knuckles and the increased tension in his forearms.

"One point," he murmured. "It’s not much, but it’s a start. I can work with this."

His moment of peace was shattered by a new sound. It wasn't the scraping of a single beast, but a low, rhythmic thumping—a cadence of paws hitting the cracked asphalt of the street outside. Then, another sound joined it. A low, distorted growl that sounded like a chorus of starving predators.

The interface flared to life again, the blue light turning a harsh, warning amber.

“Warning: External threat level adjusted. Multiple signatures detected. Horde approaching. Estimated time to arrival: 300 seconds.”

Bima’s blood went cold. The adrenaline that had begun to fade surged back with a vengeance. He rushed to the observation slit in the wall, peering out into the twilight-drenched street.

In the distance, flickering between the silhouettes of destroyed skyscrapers, he saw them. Dozens of glowing, violet eyes moving in a pack. They weren't just scavenging; they were hunting. And they were coming straight for his light.

"You have got to be kidding me," Bima whispered, his hands gripping the stone windowsill until his skin bruised. "A horde? Already? I just finished the tutorial!"

He turned back to the barricaded gate, then to his modest, ruined sanctuary. He realized then that the system hadn't come to save him. It had come to turn him into a weapon.

"Fine," Bima said, his voice dropping into a dangerous, low register. "If you want a fight, I’ll give you a war."

The man in the gas mask took another step, his boots crunching rhythmically on the debris-strewn asphalt. He didn't look like a scavenger; his gear was military-grade, clean, and terrifyingly well-maintained. Behind him, the vanguard of the Scorchers fanned out, their rifles leveled at the gatehouse with practiced lethality."Bima," the man repeated, his voice grating against the quiet. "Don't be dense. We’ve seen the way your energy signature spikes. We know you’ve got something tucked away in that pit of yours. Hand it over, and we don't have to turn this place into a furnace."Bima stood behind the gate, his fingers tracing the cold iron of the bolt. Beside him, Kanya was as still as a statue, her hand hovering near her hidden blade."You really think you're going to get anything out of us?" Bima called out, his voice steady despite the adrenaline firing through his nerves. "Look around, friend. We’re starving. We’re barely keeping the rot out of our lungs. You’re shaking down a to

The heavy iron bolt groaned as Bima slid it back, the friction of rusted metal sounding like a dying gasp in the quiet dawn. He kept his spear leveled at the slit, his knuckles white, his breath hitched in his throat. As the gate swung open, the woman didn’t rush. She stepped forward with a deliberate, calm grace that felt entirely out of place in a world of scavengers and monsters. She looked at the spear point aimed at her throat, then up at Bima’s eyes. She didn't flinch."You’re a twitchy one, aren't you?" she said, her voice dry, layered with the rasp of long-distance travel. "I suppose that’s why you’re still breathing."Bima didn't lower his weapon. He scanned the road behind her, searching the shadows for the tell-tale glow of violet eyes. "Who are you? And how do you know my name?""The name isn't important. The news is," she replied, stepping past him into the courtyard. She ignored the stares of the villagers who had crept out from their hovels, their hands gripping improvi

The blinding violet light erupted from the statue’s eyes, pinning Bima to the cobblestones. The air grew frigid, the scent of ozone replaced by something metallic and ancient, like the taste of blood on a rusted blade."Bima! Get away from it!" Mariana’s voice sounded miles away, distorted as if heard through deep water."I can’t move!" Bima gritted his teeth, his entire body locked in a paralytic tremor. His skin felt like it was being flayed by invisible needles. The light reached a crescendo, turning the world into a canvas of absolute, sightless white. Bima felt the ground disappear. The sensation of falling—not into a pit, but into an abyss of memory—overwhelmed him.“Connection to the legacy of Týr: Phase Two,” the System chimed in his mind, but it sounded different now—distorted, layered with an echo of a thousand dying voices. “Identity verification… Scion of the Broken Blade.”Bima slammed onto solid ground. The silence was absolute. He looked up. He wasn't in the village any

The ground beneath Bima’s boots screamed—a tectonic shriek of shifting concrete and snapping rebar. He didn’t wait for the dust to settle. He heaved the heavy, heat-radiating spear from the barrel, the metal biting into his palms through his gloves."Darman! Get out of here!" Bima shouted, his voice barely audible over the chaotic grinding from the floorboards.Darman, eyes wide with the raw shock of a man witnessing the impossible, scrambled backward. "What in the name of God is that, Bima? What is under us?""It’s a burrower! They aren’t just coming from the walls, they’re beneath us!" Bima’s eyes darted to the fissure. A violet eye blinked, then disappeared into the darkness. "Go! Tell Mariana to get everyone into the high ground. The central plaza! Use the stone platforms!""But you—""Go!" Bima roared, his focus already shifting to the breach. He didn't have time to be a savior for everyone; he had to be a wall. He drove the butt of his new spear into the cracked dirt. The hum of

The air in the settlement was thick with the scent of ozone and scorched earth, a grim reminder of the fight that had just transpired. Bima walked through the courtyard, his boots dragging slightly in the dust, the weight of the System’s latest notification pressing down on him like a physical burden. He stopped only when he reached the rear of the communal workshop, where the rhythmic clink-clink of a hammer against cold iron provided a steady, grounding beat.Pak Darman, the village’s unofficial blacksmith, didn’t look up as Bima approached. The older man’s face was a map of deep-set wrinkles, perpetually smudged with soot, and his arms were thick with corded muscle earned through decades of toil."I heard the commotion at the perimeter," Darman said, his voice like gravel grinding together. He didn't stop hammering, but his posture stiffened. "They say you killed an Alpha. A big one."Bima leaned against the doorframe, his breath still coming in shallow, ragged hitches. "It’s dead.

  • Chapter 5: Night of the Howling Beast

The twilight had deepened into a bruised purple, the kind of heavy, suffocating gloom that usually heralded a night of terror. Bima stood at the edge of the rubble pile, the wind whipping his hair across his eyes. Below, the distant, rhythmic vibration of the heavy footfalls grew louder."Are you still sure about this, Bima?" Adi whispered, his voice trembling as he gripped a jagged piece of rebar. "That thing… it doesn't sound like the others. It sounds like something that eats monsters for breakfast."Bima didn't turn around. He adjusted his grip on the training staff, feeling the familiar hum of the System’s cooling presence in his core. "That’s exactly why I’m going. It’s an Alpha. If it finds our camp while everyone is sleeping, the wall we built won’t mean a damn thing.""But you’re one guy!" Adi hissed, grabbing Bima’s sleeve. "You’re going to get yourself killed. Let’s just stay inside the bunker. Let’s just hope it passes us by."Bima pulled his sleeve away, his expression ca
