The Amazing Doctor: Gerald's Ascendance

Chapter 12

Gerald scoffed at Henry. He believed that if only Henry knew that he was invited by Grace to come work there, he would not be talking to him the way he was doing.

Gerald believed that Henry would have been addressing him with respect if he knew the connection he had with Grace and her grandfather.

"How dare you scoff at me?" Henry asked in anger. "You bloody ex-convict!"

Gerald did not want to get angry with Henry because of Grace, so he kept quiet while Henry called him names.

Henry on the other hand became more angry with the silent treatment Gerald was giving him.

He could not stomach the fact that someone who he believed was beneath his status would keep silent as he was talking to him.

"You have the guts to ignore me when I'm talking to you? Who the hell do you think I am?" Henry shouted.

Gerald was beginning to get tired of Henry's childish outbursts but he still refused to lose his cool.

"I don't know what you want me to say or do. When I talk, you pick offense, when I keep silent you take it as an insult, tell me, what do you want?" Gerald asked.

Henry's face became red out of anger and his veins were almost threatening to pull out when he heard what Gerald spoke.

"You animal! The sight of you alone is what is getting me angry! Everything about you irritates me and I do not wish to see you again!" Henry insulted Gerald.

At this point, Gerald was already at his wit's end but he still decided to continue behaving like the gentleman that he was then, his patience was beginning to wear out.

Henry on his part, continued to throw insults at Gerald. When he saw that his insults were having little or no effect on Gerald, he decided to fire him.

"You see, the only thing that will calm me down is when I see you leave this place so you are fired!" Henry said.

Gerald could barely believe his eyes. He was yet to start working and Henry had already fired him. He found it an unfair and wicked act on Henry's part.

"I don't understand," Gerald said.

"What is there that you don't understand? Or are you dull as well?" Henry asked sarcastically.

"No I am not but what I don't understand is why I'm getting fired. What is my offense besides, I am yet to start working." Gerald inquired.

It seemed to piss Henry off that Gerald was questioning his authority and he flared up again.

"You son of a nobody! How dare you undermine my authority and question my decision? Are you trying to say that I don't know what I am doing?" Henry asked.

Gerald knew that Henry was behaving the way he was because he did not understand the situation fully so he decided to calm down and explain everything to Henry.

"See, I know we started on the wrong foot but let me explain the situation to you," Gerald said trying to pacify Henry.

"I am not here because I want to be here, I am here because..."

Henry did not allow Gerald to complete his explanations before cutting him off.

"Look! I don't care what situation brought you here. For all I know, our rival company might have sent you here to work as a spy giving your criminal records so just shut up and get out of here!" Henry ordered.

"But.." Gerald tried to speak but Henry would not listen.

"Don't say anything! Didn't your mother give you any home training so you know you don't talk when your superiors are talking?" Henry asked scornfully. "I wonder what kind of woman gave birth to you, she must have been useless like you."

Gerald finally got to his wit's end. He could manage to take any insults thrown at him by Henry or anybody but what he would not tolerate was an insult against his mother.

Gerald could not control his anger anymore so he punched Henry in the face.

Henry did not see the punch coming so he could dodge it and he fell. His eyes instantly became black and red.

"How dare you raise your filthy hands against me?" Henry shouted. "I knew that you were a violent person and I was right to fire you!"

"No! I am not a violent person but your insults pushed me to hit you." Gerald said in his defense.

"Keep your explanations to yourself! I am going to call in the security and he will deal with you!" Henry threatened.

Before Gerald could say anything, Henry quickly called in the security using the phone in his office.

"Hello.." Henry said. "I need you to come to my office right now! There is a criminal on the loose that we need to deal with."

The security quickly rushed down to Henry's office to deal with the criminal that Henry had told him about.

"Sir, where is the criminal?" The security asked him immediately to Henry's office.

"This is him," Henry answered pointing at Gerald. "I told him he could not be employed here due to his criminal record and he punched me in the face for no reason." Henry lied.

Gerald could hardly believe his ears as he heard the lie that Henry was saying. He wanted to explain to the security but Henry cut in.

"Now, I want you to deal with him before you throw him out of this compound," Henry instructed the security.

"Yes sir!" The security answered.

The security attempted to deal a blow to Gerald but Gerald was quick to dodge it as he subdued the security with ease.

He landed a blow on the face of the security and he fell on the floor.

Henry was shocked by the way Gerald easily subdued the security and he became angry.

"You! I will make sure I deal with you!" He lashed out at Gerald.

"You can't do anything to me because you don't know who I am." Gerald boasted.

Henry burst into a mocking laugh.

"Who else would you be apart from a criminal?" Henry mocked.

"Well, I didn't want to say this before but your actions have pushed me to it," Gerald said and straightened himself.

"Your boss Grace, is my girlfriend!" He revealed.
