Chapter 1
001 Free Bird
The gates of Montserrat Prison clanged open to release a prisoner.
A tall man in ordinary clothes walked out, having served his three-year conviction term. "I can finally be with my family again," Tyler said aloud, shielding his eyes with his hand from the bright noon sun. He didn't turn back to look at the prison facade. Montserrat was a maximum-security prison, home to the most heinous and dangerous criminals in the world. But Tyler never belonged to this living hell. Three years ago, Tyler stood on the cusp of glory—top grad, dream job. And Erica Sinclair, his stunning childhood love, one of the prettiest girls in town, just said yes to his proposal. Then came the nightmare. Trent Cooper, a rich playboy with a twisted obsession for Erica, ambushed them in a drunken rage. "If you won't be my girlfriend, I'll make you my girlfriend by force!" the billionaire brat roared, dragging Erica into his car. Tyler fought back, managing to save her. In the scuffle, the drunken Trent loses his balance and breaks his own arm. Trent cried assault, and with the Cooper family owning the local police, Tyler got framed. Nobody believed his story and a corrupt trial judge sentenced him to three years at Montserrat prison. Tyler let out of a sigh. Finally, it was done. But Montserrat prison had left him some souvenirs. He eyed the uncharacteristic tattoo on his own right bicep, the six-wings, called the Seraphim sigil. It was not a prison souvenir but one given to him by Butch Salvatore, one of the other inmates serving a life sentence. Butch was an eccentric old man who claimed to be the leader of a mysterious group. Most other inmates considered Butch a deluded old psychopath and avoided him, but Tyler befriended the man and showed him kindness. One day Butch invited him to his practice sessions. "I suffered a near-fatal attack from my enemies many years back," he told the young man. "It took most of my life energy to heal myself. My life is about to end soon. However, I see innate talent in you, Tyler. I can teach you to master invincible skills that will aid you in reaching the pinnacle of the world. It won't be an easy or enjoyable path. Will you accept your destiny?" Tyler was both skeptical and intrigued by Butch's tall claims. In the end, he decided to put them to the test. From that day onwards, he spent his time in prison as Butch Salvatore's disciple. The old man put him through hell to learn martial arts and abilities.Eventually, Tyler realized Butch's claims were not imaginary. Just before Tyler's release from prison, Butch imprinted this tattoo on his arm. "Someone will be waiting for you outside," he instructed in a serious tone. "I don't have anything of material value to give to you right now. However, you are my true legacy; everything I own is yours. There’s a place hidden from the maps—Wings Island. You must go there when you’re ready. " Tyler didn't really expect anything else from Butch. But indeed, someone was waiting for him outside the prison. A tall, athletic woman dressed in rugged leather leaned on a Harley Davidson. Her eagle-green eyes scrutinized him. "Are you Tyler?" She asked with a raised eyebrow. "Yes, I am. Butch Salvatore said you'd have gifts for me." Three years back, Tyler would have been intimidated by such a perfectly sculpted female. However, the new and improved Tyler had drastically changed. He was tall, lean, and muscular. An air of confidence and indifference surrounded him. "I'm Britta, Butch's granddaughter," she said, handing him a paper bag. "There are three gifts inside. Handle them carefully. I’ll drop you at Sapphire City now." Tyler nodded and pocketed the bag. Britta handed him a phone before leaving. "My number is in the phonebook. Call me whenever you need anything. " Tyler breathed in the city air as he walked down a familiar street. Sapphire City had barely changed, Tyler slowly walked up the street he was raised in. As he made the turn towards his ancestral home, the scene shocked him to the core. His parents' home looked decrepit and run-down, as if thirty years had passed. Mold and creepers grew on the walls while the boundary itself was crumbling. There were cracks on the facade, and the garden was overgrown with grass and weeds. Tyler took a moment to process the bizarre scenery. What tragedy had struck the Grants while he was gone? It had been only three years! The city itself had prospered, but his ancestral home had turned into ruins! The Grant family had never been billionaires, but Tyler's father owned a mini-mall in the city. He made enough money to keep his family in comfort. Tyler approached the porch and rang the doorbell. However, the power was out, and the bell was useless. He knocked on the door. After five minutes, he heard the sound of rolling wheels, and someone opened the door. The figure that emerged from the shabby house was that of a wizened old woman in a wheelchair. She had disheveled hair and was dressed in tattered clothes. "Who is it?" she asked with a pained tremor in her voice. Tyler's heart did a double-take. The shriveled woman before him was none other than his own mother, Ruth Grant! She seemed to have aged twenty years and was pinned to a wheelchair! What the hell happened while he was gone? "Mom, it's me. Tyler. Don’t you recognize me?" "Tyler… Is it really you?" she stammered, raising a trembling hand to touch his bearded face. "Yes…" He figured his unkempt hair, scraggly beard, and rugged physique made him look quite different from the boyish young man she remembered from three years ago. Tears of mixed emotion streamed down Ruth's eyes as she pulled her son towards her and hugged him. "Am I dreaming…? I can't believe it… You're finally back…" "Mom. What happened while I was gone?" Tyler asked with concern. "Why is our home in this dilapidated condition? What happened to your legs? Why do you look so unwell?"Expand

Michelle frowned, pushing through the crowd. "Evacuation? What are you talking about, Sergeant? We just won the war against Lazarus' armies. What's the issue?"He grabbed her arm, speaking with an urgent and panicked voice. "Ma'am, there is no time for discussion. Please hurry!"The Queen followed him up the spiral stairs to the palace's observation deck. The city sprawled below like a wounded beast licking its scars. Apart from the sirens and alarms, everything seemed normal. What was the Sergeant worried about? The others trailed behind. Kat, Britta, Yara, Tracy, Isabella, and Mamushi arrived. The terrace was a station with radar tech, with screens flickering madly."My Queen… Please look," the Sergeant gasped, jabbing a finger at the central display. A blip streaked across the radar range.Michelle leaned in with raised brows. "What is that? A missile? Can't our air defense systems neutralize it? Why did you have to bring me up here?"The Sergeant looked scandalized as if he had se

The Gilded Man With A Thousand Lives 317 The Petra War
"My Queen, we've lost the eastern flank!" a panicking lieutenant shouted over the roar of gunfire and crumbling buildings.Michelle Douglas stood atop the command post in Sapphire City's central square, her royal uniform smeared with soot and blood. The air was saturated with the smell of burning rubber, tar, and charred flesh. She gripped the radio tighter, trying to keep her voice steady. "Redirect the 7th Infantry from the docks. Flank them with the Gilded Guard. We must hold the square at all costs!"Petra's forces had been caught flat-footed when Lazarus Briar's armada struck at dawn. What began as a coastal skirmish erupted into a full-scale invasion. Petra, or even the American defense forces, weren't ready. It was as if the ships appeared out of a portal at sea, which probably wasn't far from the truth. They landed and spread like a contagion. Waves of black-armored soldiers stormed the beaches like locusts. At the same time, dark mages stayed in the background, weaving protec

The Gilded Man With A Thousand Lives 316 The Decision
"I have decided what to do. The choice is quite simple," Tyler said calmly. The young man took a deep breath. "Butch Salvatore's dying wish was for me to claim the Seraphim King's throne. He poured all those years in prison training me, gave me this sigil and ring as his legacy. I owe him that much. I can't turn back now—not when I'm standing at the gates."Everyone else present nodded in support of Tyler's decision. It was the rational thing to do."But then, Sapphire City is my home, where my family and friends live," he added thoughtfully. "Now that I am the King of Petra, Michelle's kingdom is mine too. Everything is under siege, and I'm here vying for another throne. Therefore, it was simple but difficult to arrive at my decision.""What do you mean?" Britta asked in confusion.Tyler smiled and turned to the guards, his eyes locking onto theirs. "Could you provide me with an important piece of information about Wings Island?"The taller guard raised a brow. "Speak, heir, but hurr

"Who goes there?" one of the guards boomed. His voice echoed like a sad song across the white sands of the beach.Tyler's boots left deep marks in the soft sand as he disembarked from the steamboat. He and his entourage had left the superyacht to land on the Wings Island beach, finally.Britta walked behind him, scanning the horizon. Yara was at his side with one of her eyes burning with Lilith's demonic essence. Derek Sentinel barked orders to the crew to bring down the cargo.Kat and Mamushi stayed near the steamboat, apparently wary of the island."Who goes there?" The two guards stood like marble statues. Their bodies rippled with ethereal muscles under golden armor that shimmered in the tropical sun. They were clearly not human."I'm Tyler Grant," the young man declared, rolling up his sleeve to reveal the six-winged tattoo on his bicep. As soon as he had set foot on Wings Island, it had begun pulsing with a faint golden light, as if awakening to the land's call.He held up his h

The Gilded Man With A Thousand Lives 314 The Queen's Bed
The mermaid queen extended her hand towards the west, her tail coiling gracefully. "Come, husband. We'll wed each other on the iceberg altar that has existed for millennia in my realm. We can have our honeymoon on a golden glacier that flows from the island itself. Afterward, once you have satisfied my urges, you may claim your throne. However, this part of the ocean will be your new home."Tyler nodded. "That sounds wonderful. However, I need a few minutes to change into proper attire for the wedding. Right now, I am dressed like a soldier. Please ask your followers to restrain themselves meanwhile."Marsha smiled warmly and waved. Her mermaids stopped growling and eased back slightly. "I can wait, my betrothed. But hurry. The sea of desire in me grows impatient. I have waited for this moment for centuries."Tyler turned around and retreated towards belowdecks. The crew parted to give him a path with stunned silence. Their eyes followed him in disbelief. At the door, Tyler signaled T

The Gilded Man With A Thousand Lives 313 The Bargain
"I'm already married," Tyler replied firmly without a second thought. "My wife is Michelle Douglas, the Queen of Petra. It is not possible for me to take another."The spectators were dumbfounded. What was the mermaid queen thinking? That she could just demand Tyler as a bridegroom, and she would get it?Marsha leaned forward, her tail swishing slowly behind her. "I don't know this tiny mortal Queen you refer to. She must be weak and pathetic.""She is anything but weak," Tyler said. "I will not tolerate another word against my Queen. This is your last warning."She waved her hand dismissively and stepped forward, sniffing the air. "I couldn't care less about mortals. I am intrigued by you, Tyler Grant."Marsha turned her nose in his direction and took a deep whiff, making him feel uncomfortable. "You reek of many women, and not just one. Many scents cling to you like barnacles on a ship's hull. I can smell a goddess, a demoness, mortals, and many more."The young man shifted in his p

APOCER .S
it seemed to have potential in the beginning but I now realise that was my misplaced nostalgia from reading A man like no other, the story isn't necessarily bad but it's definitely not good either, that coupled with the decades it takes to get an update makes it unworthy to follow here onwards, bye
