The Amazing Doctor: Gerald's Ascendance

Chapter 14

Henry saw the call end and he smiled in triumph that Gerald had failed in his plans.

"I knew that there was no way my boss would stoop so low as to come here to save a criminal like you." Henry mocked.

He and the security started to laugh and make mockery of Gerald who only stood there staring at them in silence.

Gerald had a strong belief that Grace was going to come. He knew she was too inquisitive to let the situation pass without her knowing what exactly was wrong which was why he did not explain to her on the phone.

"Sir, I knew this criminal here was just wasting our time, allow me to teach him a lesson." The security said.

"You are right." Henry agreed with security.

He called in two extra security guards and they came.

"Drag him out of here and let's teach him a lesson," Henry instructed the security guards. 

The security guards were about to drag Gerald out when they heard a knock on the door. The security opened the door and was shocked to see Grace standing at the door. 

"What the hell is going on here?" Grace asked in an angry tone as she barged in. 

Henry was surprised. 

"Good morning ma." He greeted. 

"Save your greeting. What is going on here?" Grace asked again. 

"Ma, this criminal here," Henry said pointing at Gerald, "came to apply for the post of a driver. And I told him that the company would not work with anybody with a criminal record. But he had been insisting that he knows you and even went ahead to lie that he was in a relationship with you."

Grace was surprised at the same time. She was embarrassed also because she never expected Gerald to claim they were in a relationship.

 She didn't even think he would announce it publicly. Now she was forced to admit it.

 At the same time, she was also in awe of Gerald because of his charisma. 

Grace turned to Gerald. 

"Is that true? Is what he is saying correct?" She asked him. 

"Yes and no," Gerald answered. 

"What do you mean yes and no?" Grace asked him again. 

"I came here to apply for the post of a driver, and I did all the necessary things I was supposed to do. For me to be able to sign the document, he then started accusing me that I was not fit to be in this company and saying all sorts of bad things about me. I was forced to reveal who I was to him, and I told him that we were in a relationship. Well, he didn't believe me, so he asked me to call you, which I did, and thank God you are here. Please, admit it to them,  tell them the truth, that I know you, and I'm not a fake, and we're actually in a relationship." Gerald said in a rush.

'Shut up!" Henry shouted at Gerald. "How dare you! Right in the presence of my boss, you are still lying! Did you not beat me? Did you not throw me on the floor? You assaulted me in my office!' Henry shouted. 

Grace was shocked. She turned to look at Gerald. 

"Gerald, is that true? Did you assault him?" She asked him. 

"Well, it was all in self-defense," Gerald answered. "Yes, he was insulting me too much and I could not take it anymore. I had to shut his mouth for him."

Grace was surprised. She was seeing Gerald in a new light. She had never seen him as someone violent. But then, she was in awe of him. Because she did not expect him to be able to stand up for himself that way. 

'Well, you know it is wrong to assault your senior at work right?" Grace and Gerald.

"I know. But some people are meant to be put in that place. So they will not think that they have become above the law." Gerald said.

Grace turned to Henry. 

"Is he telling the truth?" She asked him. 

Henry was at a loss for what to say so he decided to lie.

'No, he's lying." He lied. "I did not insult him. I only told him that we do not accept criminals like him in our company."

"Why do you keep calling him a criminal?" Grace asked him. 

He was about to reply when she cut him short. 

Her face firm when she continued.

"I don't want to know. But one thing you should know - Gerald and I here are in a relationship.

"You insulted him means you were insulting me."

"And I will not take from you." Grace said.
